The kids have a new take, a new take on faith
Pick up the pieces, get carried away.
I came home to a city half-erased.
I came home to face what we faced.
This place needs me here to start
This place is the beat of my heart
Oh my heart
Oh my heart
(Oh my heart)
Oh my heart
Oh my heart
(Oh my heart)
The storm didn't kill me, the government changed
Hear the answer and call, hear this song, rearranged.
Hear the trees, the ghosts and the buildings, sing.
With the wisdom to reconcile this thing.
It's sweet and it's sad and it's true.
How it doesn't look bitter on you.
Oh my heart
Oh my heart
(Oh my heart)
Oh my heart
Oh my heart
(Oh my heart)
Mother and father, I stand beside you
The good of this world might help see me through
This place needs me here to start.

I really like this song - the last album was pretty good - people by this time had stopped listening.
Oh my heart... breaks thinking of how vicious folk were about their last coupla LPs. No, agree, they weren't crushingly memorable, although a coupla tracks here and there were pretty darn good. But all that "phoning it in" and "they should have broken up after Murmur" derision from couch clowns who can barely make themselves a bologna sandwich? Not having it.
Ohhh, my heart breaks when I hear this. REM has done such wonderful stuff over the years.
It makes me very sad to hear them phoning it in like this.

Not really liking this song. R.E.M. has such a collective gift, and they're wasting it on stuff like this (and "Mine Smell Like Honey.") I can only hope that this is just a contractual fulfillment, and the next work will be more, um, valid.
Michael Stipe is working on a new career in sculpture and living happily with his French boyfriend. Wish he had not decided to enter the studio again, a blemish on an otherwise happy ending.
This is a great song. If it were on an R.E.M. album 20 years ago everyone would be saying what a classic it is right now. But since it's new, and everyone has to prove how cool they are, it somehow sucks.

Not off the top of my head, but it certainly would not include REM if I could! They were great.......20 years ago! Now they are simply awful! And no, I assure you The Stones were not able to do it either!
mmm...U2?

Of course you think Clapton's Layla, Bowie's Heroes and anything by Pearl Jam desevre a 1, so you and your infantile puking widgets have no credibility.
Oh now, this is just simply awful they have truly bottomed out!

This lands just the right side of R.E.M. parody.

I pulled my calculator out and realized I've been listening to my favorite band for almost 30 years and I'm still in my mid 40s. Can anyone name a band that still produced high quality, viable, NEW music 30 years in? I don't even think the Stones were able to do this. Thanks RP for a fantastic source for new, old and diverse music!!

Oh my ears.
Stipe sounds good. I almost heard a little Cash in there.

Made me sit up and take notice, which is more than most recent REM has done.
I think I still prefer mumbling Stipe to halting Stipe, but it's interesting.

Call me "butter"
cause I'm on a roll!

Oh my ears!
Seriously? This is REM? Without looking I was guessing Dougie McLean.

But, this was interesting on first listen.
Not bad, but I am still missing Berry....hopefully the pace picks up from here.

Seems like this album has lots of promise... but haven't the last few — only to disappoint?

And I the 4th....
At first listen, I'm enjoying this track.

Darn it — almost first!
First I've heard this. Wish I had something more profound to say, but I couldn't pass up the chance to be the first to post on the song!
