I pray for the night
To take me, to take you too
After so many words
Still nothing's heard
Don't know what we should do
So if someone could see me now
Let them see you
'twas my greatest thrill
When we just stood still
You let me hold your hand 'til I had my fill
Even counting sheep
Don't help me sleep
I just toss and turn right there beside ya
So if someone could help me now
They'd help you too
They'd help you too
See you through
All the hard things we've all gotta do
'Cause this life is long
So you wouldn't be wrong
Being free, leaving me on my own
And I held my own
Still I rattled your bones
I said some awful things and I take them back
If we would try again
Just remember when
Before we were lovers I swear we were friends
So if someone could see me now
Let them see you
Let them see you
See you through
All the hard things we've all gotta do
'Cause this life is long
So you wouldn't be wrong
Being free, leaving me on my own
I concur with three comments below: this sounds a bit like David Bromberg singing "It's Not Dark Yet" in a mashup with the opening bars of "Zorba the Greek."
I came here to say, sounds like shades of David Bromberg.
For those of you who remember David Bromberg, this is exactly how he sang, and the music sounds similar, too.
The rythme and thème comes from a song of Sixto Rodriguez a forgotten Detroit singer. Best than Dylan in the sa me way.

Better than Jack Johnson.
Not a terrible difficult task :)
This song just has a cool vibe to it, at least in my world.
The lyrics surly, not Shirley but, surely will hit home with many.
I'm sure Lee or your name_____ fill in the blank, will agree?
Take the words in his song and mix them with his perfect tune and I'd give it an 11, but that number hasn't been invented yet.
Thanks RP!
Mesmerized for the last couple of weeks over this.

Same for me, as for several other commenters.

Whether or not this seems accurate, your post seems to suggest that David Bromberg is in the past. As far as I know he is active. As well as alive.
Maybe, I just heard this one, one or more times too often.
I've heard it once, and that was two times too many.
At least the next song will not be this dull. Even if it's The Pretenders.
Wow!! (not)... the rare double h8

That's who I thought it was too.
yes....I had to see who this was....my eardrums are not completely shot.
Ever since i came upon this. Station I really have no use to listen to commercial rock radio with the same crap we hear day after day
Hmmmm. I've been listening to Bromberg a long, long time and I've liked this song since it came out. But I've never made that connection. But you may have something there. Thx.
I would love to hear more M. Ward on RP.
The chicken skin on my arms are afraid of the same thing happening....it's a 9 for me....Long Live RP!!
. . . or even Nick Cave ? ? ?
i have No higher rating.
Exactly my thoughts !

It really is a very nice video. For the curious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPJNt1eTVNY
Nice. Thanks for that. Followed by Etta James, another find. And down the rabbit home I go for the night.
Bruce
. . . and maybe a little Daniel Lanois?
Yeah, reminds me of his song Sometimes.

It's got many more chords than most of Dylan's tunes, and it's got a bridge, which is pretty rare for a good portion of old Zimmy's material - especially the earlier stuff.
And that's a compliment, BTW.
I'm hearing hints of David Bromberg...

Are they "footie" pajamas?
Agreed. Nice segue from Mr Bojangles

Those "down the thread" might just be wrong. I would suggest "Caught Me Thinking","Okay, Alright, I'm Alive","I Got You Babe", and "Time And Time Again" if you like this one. If those songs float your boat, I would further suggest Bahamas new album, "Is Alfie". It is easily as good as this disc.
Seconded on all fronts. Listen to h8rhater people, he speaks truth.

Very smooth !
You're not actually thinking. It only seems that way to you.

You certainly do work hard at living up to that username...sort of.
Live performance and the writer's thoughts about his song at khum.com, see Bahamas podcast...
Thinking it sounds a lot like a 1980's-era instant coffee commercial.

How can that even be? I like this song but you can't get more dreary. None more dreary.
I was thinking that he sounds a lot like M. Ward.

I won't be using it on this one 'cause I like it but there are some I cannot act soon enough

Lovely, thanks. Great old 60's movie - Zorba the Greek with Anthony Quinn, if you're interested...
More like Ron Sexsmith, you mean.
At least they have sex in common.
Not so sure about that.

Indeed. David Bromberg is the closest voice to this. I checked in to see who this was and agree with you. Not bad, although it does fail to move out of the initial gear..
I am waiting for the improvement with ageing to kick in...so far, so lame
If I knew what you meant I would probably agree with you. I still hear "Shaddap You Face" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFacWGBJ_cs.

that means i like it.
You'd see a bimodal ratings distribution if there was really a polarized opinion on RP about this song. This is a normal-ish distribution with a fairly high mean.

Joe Dolce?!!! That's a name I hadn't thought about in a long time...well, until now.
