Great rendition of a classic
Buena Vista Social Club also does a kick ass version of this! It is on the RP playlist.

Wow, African roots going home for a spin. What a great cover of a great tune. Musicians are terrific. Thanks RP for introducing me to yet more interesting music.

I Agree!  GREAT TUNE! GREAT COVER!  Thanx RP!

Thank You for the info!  Totally cool!   Cut out of a gourd and  "finger plucked"!  PS: They actually sell them on Amazon.
EXCELLENT!  Thanx RP!
Beautiful version!
I take note of this Kora Jazz band.
This went from "What? No." to "Ya-know, I like this." in half the song.

Yep, same here. Kora salsa works pretty well.
Delish!

Bom de se ouvir!
I bet that dude on the right behind the sofa can do a pretty mean Humpty-Dance
I love this cover adds some new dimensions, and love the original too!
Very nice cover.
Very cool....
Chan-Chan. Good -Good
First time to hear this. Sign of a great melody is that it sounds good regardless of the instrumentation. Not familiar with how difficult the kora is to play but I like its biting tone.
Not bad.  I was going to give it an 8 since I love this song, but no lyrics.  Had to downgrade to a 7.  The Buena Vista Social Club's version is superior IMO.
A great cover of a great original.  Thanks RP!
Echoes of Ry Cooder...
Interesting version of a great song but it feels a bit "de-syncopated" to me, like some of the rhythmic feel that made the original so special to me got lost in translation.

Fantastic rendition of a really awesome track... Thanks for this {#Smile}

Must be the inspiration (or work) of Ketama and Toumane Diabate {#Meditate}

Dissent against the gerontocracy lands you in prison, but never mind, they've got universal health care!  Looks like soon we will progress to the same.

I totally disagree.  These musicians add nothing but sound tweaked instrument.  The original gifted their identity, verve, and cultural uniqueness to the chorus of world music.

Not many hotels in Cuba have elevators, and I can tell you that the ones in the Hotel National de Cuba do not have this playing. However, the existing and current members of the Buena Vista Social Club, were actually playing this in the ballroom downstairs.

Very cool! {#Cool}

Do not agree.

Nice tune - I wonder what that string instrument - which sounds like a zither - is. I guess it's a kora.

Go man, go.
Quite nice grabbed my attention. Would like to hear it more.  Recording quality sounds excellent too.

Not many hotels in Cuba have elevators, and I can tell you that the ones in the Hotel National de Cuba do not have this playing. However, the existing and current members of the Buena Vista Social Club, were actually playing this in the ballroom downstairs.   A gladly memorable moment in my life.   A beautiful country with an interesting past and proud hard working people.

This was.... nice, but too fast.  its a hot lazy song for me.
I liked this song but 3/4 of the way through, it got into the annoying area of repetition, to where I was saying "enough already!", but then, after it got away from the rut it was stuck in, it closed nicely.
not my cuppa----1
Most excelente!

Beautiful rendition. Many thanks, Bill.

I'll second that. It's different from the Buena Vista Social Club version, and as all good covers should do it adds a new slant to the song. 7 from the Nottingham jury.
Interesting because of the kora (thanks for the link ) but not interesting enough to keep around for long.
Beautiful rendition. Many thanks, Bill.

Greetings from London.

Nice, Bill!  This piec eis on "Buena Vista Social Club."  Similar arrangement, reinstrumented.
Nice tune - I wonder what that string instrument - which sounds like a zither - is. I guess it's a kora.
