Love the original (who doesn't/wouldn't?), but this is pleasant enough, far from horrid
A very lazy rendition, hardly worth the effort (if there was any).
Beatles anywhere!
Simple: SUPER!

I first heard (and saw) this on the video on the "Pleasantville" DVD, and it's probably my favorite Fiona Apple song. The video is very original too, btw.
Thanks for playing it (I believe I requested it recently).

It was apparently done for the film "Pleasantville". Maybe they didn't want to use the original Beatles version for some reason - perhaps monetary reasons.
Although mildly pleasant, this is obviously not a patch on the original. Which begs the question, why bother?!

This is a miss...
Nah. Meh. Nice try tho.

Oh dear.

marginal at best

EVERYBODY in my grave are ROLLING to this like crazy
How is it possible to take such a (nearly) transcendent song and drain all its spark out, then release it? Not every cover of a song must add anything substantive, but this sounds more like subtraction.
marginal at best
no way.
Three Beatles in a row. Shoot me now.
This sounds like the batteries are running low.

Ack Opp! This one sucks!

She does nothing for this song. Well nothing positive that is.

An exellent addition to the RP playlist
I heard this version before the original, and I have to say I prefer Fiona\'s better. The Beatle\'s version is more psychedelic, but this version is more soothing and I really like Fiona\'s voice on this song. I do appreciate geotrash\'s second comment though...while Fiona doesn\'t really add anything new to the song, it was worth it.
...and now Fiona sinks into a coma....zzzzzzzz
An excellent and novel interpretation. Great production!
Cool. It grows on ya after a while.
There are 2 elements to understanding and appreciating remakes in my view:
1.) Does the artist add significant talent and original thinking to the song, so as to transform it to something even more extraordinary? In this case, possibly. In the case of Eric Clapton re-doing Knockin' on Heaven's Door? Definitely. One key element is that most of Clapton's audience in the 70's were probably well aware of Bob Dylan's original version. Clapton's contribution was an amazing interpretation of the song that made it indelible- at least to me. And yes, I was around for Dylan's original.
2.) Was the original song really worth a remake? Or was it just a little bit catchy and the artist is trying to bring it out to a new audience for the PRIMARY purpose of making more money, not to show stunning artistic prowess. In this case, there is a good chance that their audience never knew the original existed anyway, so who knows the difference. It's just another catchy tune from a top 40 artist.
Now, for me, this song falls into the second category.

I like this one.

Ah, well that explains it. I didn't realize the entire soundtrack was Beatles covers until I looked it up on CDNow. Lame.
The Eddie Vedder cover of "Hide Your Love Away" is quite good too!

Great setlist!
straight out of the Beatles\' The Fool On The Hill, from Incubus\' Aqueous Transmission. I am in heaven.
she definitely sounds sauced on this track. not too bad though, i suppose.
Pretty good cover....but she is slurring the lyics....I think she was drunk when she recorded it. But overall pretty good.

Ditto Leslie - the first time I heard this I thought \"John is smiling\" Perfect.

Sudden? This song has been out, obviously, since the movie came out. Which, as my memory serves was about four years ago. I agree though that there have been a lot of Beatles remakes recently, and they all basically suck. This one, however, is actually better than the original. I have great respect for the work of the Beatles, but lets not act like everything they ever sang came straight down from heaven.

Please play much more of this great singer! IMO she\'s one of the best and most innovative female singers besides Björk, Tori Amos and Stina Nordenstam (and maybe some others that I forgot or maybe don\'t know yet ;))...
Her voice is so beautiful. I closed my eyes the first time I heard this and drifted off into blissful-happy-calm. :)
The orginal is such a beautiful song and Fiona Apple\'s version of it is excellent.
Thanks for playing this!
Funny, her last name is the same as the Beatles' recordlabel.
Very lovely remake. A woman's voice and especially one such as Fiona's, is very suiting for a song like this. Great, contemporary production, doing justice to the original.
great cover
Not to put down the Beatles, but I have to say this version is better. I know, I can\'t explain it either.
