I got tired of sadness
I got tired of all the madness
I got tired of being a badass all the time
It's only survival
Only not dead upon arrival
Only ahead of every rival that we find

And we've ridden beyond where we could safely touch down
And we're out in the void past where we could've had turned around
I tried my feet on the floor, tried to beat on the door
But it didn't even make a sound
Got my heart open wide
But the city been shut down

It's easy to go babe
It's just an easy yes or no, babe
It's just an easy way to throw away what we have
I don't need a letter
I don't need anybody better
I don't need anybody ever, I never have

And you've ridden beyond where you could safely touch down
And you're out in the void past where you could've had turned around
Hey I told you before, I needed you more
But it didn't even make a sound
I got my heart open wide
But the city been shut down

Now sooner or later
It's just an empty elevator
Just the song of the revelator on every floor
Now how can I get it right?
I don't even like what I write
I don't even like what I like anymore

But I stand in the yard and watch the evening come down
And I shuffle the cards when all the idiots come around
Hey I told you before, I needed you more
But you didn't even turn around
Got my heart open wide
But the city been shut down
I got my heart open wide
But the city been shut down

Hey I told you before, I needed you more
But you couldn't even turn around
Got my heart open wide
But the city been shut down
Got my heart open wide
But the city been shut down
Got my heart open wide
But the city been shut down
Got my heart open wide
But the city been shut down

I assume this is a typical American pronunciation of their English, but to my ears a cat is regularly kicked on its tail.  And indeed, the music drags, unlistenable!

I'm with you on this one. It drags. And that tag line grates after the 8th repetition.

Yes a really nice new song here on RP. The best Radio Station in the world! I raised my 7 to an 8 on second listening. I didn´t knew the artist before. So it is a new discovery for me. Thank you very much Alanna and William!

8->9 because my 10 yr old caught on to the lyrics and now we can always share this lovely piece. Beautiful swelling lap or pedal Steele. Thanks Bill 🤟
Whiney!
Hadn't yet rated.   Corrected that
This song has great balance... hard not to like.
Because the rest of you don't know what music is.
"I don't even like what I like anymore"

This song, and this line especially, really hit home for me. I have had a lot of these same feelings in the wake of the pandemic, and all the depression and anxiety surrounding it and how it has impacted our interpersonal relationships. Yeah didn't mean to get too heavy on ya, but I like this one.
"I got tired of being a badass all the time"

Ironically, I had the same delima
I read an interview with Matthew about this album.  He ended it by saying
"I think it might be the best song I’ve ever written"  I agree.
Very nice!
Lovely.

The absolute troll-ish down-thumbing of simple comments like this is absurd.
Not that this is bad, but I prefer some of his other tracks.
It's funny how some songs don't resonate with some people, and this is one for me. I cannot stand how he ends the line of each chorus line.
We're all different and I have never posted a negative comment and never will; this is purely a comment.
It just puts me off the sing completely and I do the right thing and PSD.
Just saying  ☺
"I got tired of being a badass all the time"
Makes me lol every time!

Interesting
Nice vibe...a welcome addition to the RP trope...
A new fav!
Good Stuff! I really like his other tracks on RP.
