Turned on the radio and there it was
A song that sounded like something I wrote
The voice and melody were hauntingly
So familiar that I thought it was a joke

Is it beyond intelligence
As if the soul need not exist

Evolution ever-changing
Lost in space and time
Maybe there's a grand solution
Somewhere we will find
Deep in the heart of human kind

I held my baby as the sun came up
And I watched him as he opened up his eyes
What will I tell him when he's old enough
To want the answers to all the questions why?

Yes, we are brilliant, we are kind
But sometimes we miss the glaring signs

Evolution ever-changing
Lost in space and time
Maybe there's a grand solution
Somewhere we will find
Deep in the heart of human kind

We can create, we can destroy
We can feel pain, we can feel joy
We can plant seeds and watch love grow
We can feel love 'cause it's written in the human kind

Where are we headed in this paradise?
We are passengers and there's no one at the wheel
No matter how well you can outdo me
There is one thing you will never do and it's feel

Evolution ever-changing
Lost in space and time
Maybe there's a grand solution
Somewhere we will find

Evolution ever-changing
Lost in space and time
Maybe there's a grand solution
Somewhere we will find

This has a somewhat 90's sound to it (I think it's the chord progression), I like it very much!

Wow, I didn't know Sheryl Crow was writing Rush songs now (:  It's growing on me!

Haha!  Maybe more like Geddy's solo album?
Like her optimism. Not so sure we'll survive the upcoming Great Filter test that's before us (Fermi Paradox), but at least we'll rock out to RP on the way! Peace out

Ha - I was listening in the background and her voice had me think this was Madonna?!

Automatic transcription by some AI?

this is a lesson in lets get a name brand geetar player to mail in a guitar solo.....actually make Tom Morrello look like a one trick pony......(well, 2 is you count the nylon string acoustic guitar stuff)
Jury is still out on this one for me, but out of respect I'll start at "7"

Because that's when the album was released. The first single precedes the album. I know, a very hard concept.

I came here to say exactly the same thing!!

Please follow the exit signs.
I'm psyched that Sheryl is still expressing the innate, heartbreakingly human yearning for answers. For me, it was always rewarding that even the popular songs that took her to the height of fame and gave us all such fun, catchy ear-worms through the 90s proudly show the deep beauty and glow of the remarkably resilient heart at their core. She remains a powerful inspiration to me!
Ms. Crow is a wise and talented woman.
I find there a Madonnesque feel but in the good way
Nov\23...Nine-time Grammy Award-winner and 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Sheryl Crow announced today she will release her 11th full-length studio album, “Evolution,” on March 29, 2024. Featuring nine new songs, the album is produced by Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre, Maroon 5, Keith Urban, Gary Clark Jr.)
Nice, but Appleton were doing this nearly 20 years ago.
why is this in heavy rotation? Please, no more

The March date is the official release date.  In other words, this album has not been released yet.

This would be like the good old days of advance copies to radio stations.

Exactly, beat me to it.

DJs get songs before they're released to the public. At least they  used to. I remember staying up till midnight in early 1967 for WBZ-AM in Boston to play Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever the second it was legal for them to do so. I had to wait some time to buy the 45 myself.
was away from my computer when this song first came on, I was like "is that Madonna?" lol didn't have any idea this was Sheryl Crow.

Don't know why but her voice especially in the chorus and bridge sounds like Madonna to me.

Miss Crow has penned another good one, she seems to have a balance of producing pop songs as well as meaningful songs

That sounds suspiciously like Tom Morello on guitar.  She's great, and so is he, but this isn't their best work.

Good ear. https://www.rollingstone.com/m...
Once upon a time, Spacehog's "In The Meantime" was popular and Sheryl Crow was singing heartland rock like "If It Makes You Happy".  But whoever would have guessed that 30 years later Sheryl would steer her sound more toward Spacehog's style.
I was loving this so I checked to see who it was and holy crap, Sheryl Crow? Very different from her other stuff
She just turned 60. Damn.
The question "Is Prog rock inevitable?" has just been answered by Sheryl, Thanks Sheryl, I agree.
This is growing on me.  Has a Ray of Light vibe.   7 to an 8.
LOSE THE GUITAR BULLSHIT
Didn’t need more Sheryl….awful

I would think it was 'code', because code is written, not so much 'kind'.

First time for me.  I'm no Sheryl fan.  Coupla annoying songs, or just bland, or overplayed.  But this is a good one.  Lyrics with something thoughtful, and a nice guitar break.  Play it again, RP.
No kiddin' Sheryl, you nailed the perils of AI for sure.

Ooh, first comment on a fresh track !

As someone whose most recent exposure to Sheryl Crow was Every Day is A Winding Road. I felt like the speaker in the song: she sounds hauntingly familiar, but not quite like herself.

I am glad that she is saying something about this very important topic.  I just wonder if it was a bit too on the nose, and not quite the wry, conversational style that made her famous.

also, William: there is a mistake in the lyrics. At the end of the bridge, the final word is "human code."
