No one lives forever, no one dies for long
In this hallucination, upside down is the right side of wrong
This space-less space – timeless time – amnesia of human-kind
But there is a voice – whispering in your soul
All you have forgotten – determined to be known

All the things you should have said but didn't say
Life after life
All the things you could have done but didn't do
Life after life
Remembering
Life after lifе
Where you werе before you were you

Listening to the growing of the grass
Watching time-lapsed clouds pass
The strange becomes familiar – the familiar strange
Some things best experienced – not explained
Everything is not what it seems
Sensing outlines of forms unseen
Those sirens on that distant shore
Tempting you back for more

But what really brought you to Earth?
But what really guided you from birth?
You know you're dreaming but you can't wake up
Trapped on the inside but out of touch
The inner – the outer – the believer – the doubter
But the biggest clue with what is true?
Your thoughts are thinking – you!

Nice stuff Bill, including your thoughts after (the back story).  Really enjoying it.
It got better once he stopped trying to be Leonard Cohen, and started singing....

oh what, he's gone back to the speaking/whispering/singing thing that I'm not the biggest fan of.

I wondered what had happened to The The. Sounds like Matt Johnson is a bit less angry these days. Thanks, William.

Hmm, I'm not sure about that, based on another song from this album which was righteously angry, biting sature and polemic. Still, both songs have convinced me to buy the disc. I've always liked Matt's songwriting and music, going back to the early 80s when he ripped the shit out of yuppies in the album Infected. The track Heartland was an excoriating attack on the state of England, an angry antidote to the vapid Britpop  of the time.

All the things you could have said but didn´t say

Does sound like someone more reflective.

Sorry, made me think of Shatner back in the day.
Sweet, "new" The The. Starting at an 8 may go up with listening.
