Oo, Midnight Flyer
Engineer, won't you let your whistle moan?
Oo, Midnight Flyer
I paid my dues and I feel like trav'lin' on
A runaway team of horses ain't enough to make me stay
So throw your rope on another man
And pull him down your way
Make him into someone who can take the place of me
Make him every kind of fool you wanted me to be
Oo, Midnight Flyer
Engineer, won't you let your whistle moan?
Oo, Midnight Flyer,
I paid my dues and I feel like trav'lin' on
Maybe I'll go to Santa Fe, maybe San Antone,
Any town is where I'm bound any way to get me gone
Don't think about me, never let me cross your mind
'Cept when you hear that midnight lonesome whistle whine
Oo, Midnight Flyer

everything I know about harmony I learned from the Eagles
Time to chance the station. Unbearable
When I lived in San Antonio, my mom, with her Southeast Texas accent, pronounced it San-TONE-ya, but I've never, ever, in real life heard someone call it San Antone. Only in songs.
At least it's not 'Life In The Fast Lane'.
I'd forgotten about this one.
Wow, shades of Poco and Pure Prairie League ..............
Must ...... find ...... Amazon ............ must .............. find ........... album ............

sounds like something from the "smokey and the bandit" soundtrack.
omg. please kill me. now.
Frankly, not for me...
Classic! I love the Eagles. This may not be their best song, but it is the Eagles, so I have to comment!
This was one of my most favorite CDs from the Eagles. I love "Already Gone" and I have a story in the beginning stages, using that song as the closing segment, with two beefed-up Camaros (or other metal-cars) zooming into the horizon on a long, straight stretch of vacant two-lane highway in Nevada, with the camera on the center line, facing the sunset as they race past, side by side. The story itself is undeveloped, but I can't hear "Already Gone" without seeing exactly what I'd love a movie to be. And "Midnight Flyer" would be on the soundtrack, too, except I haven't figured out where to put it yet...
I love The Eagles' early stuff.

Well, I don't mind admitting that I like the Eagles now and then, but this wouldn't be my choice from "On the Border". I'd take the title track, My Man, or Ol' 55 over this relatively average fare.
"My Man" is most excellent.
I always thought this was New Riders of the Purple Sage.
Or Loggins and Messina.
Or some such.

Bill, there's a reason why this one ain't been played to death:
Because it's freaking horrible!

I don't understand the hate. This is not the best Eagles song, but it's still better than many "hits" of most bands from the same time. REMEMBER DISCO?
Yeah............ I would prefer some Gloria Gaynor about now

Wow man - I'm back in high school!

I like it. Plus it's different than their usual stuff heard 10,000 times a day on public radio.
That bass line is so "smokey and the Bandit". And not in a cool kinda retro way either. More of a "uh, that hillbilly just spit tabacco on my shoe" kinda retro.

Ooh. Good one.
7.
I am an Achiever..and I hate the fucking Eagles man.....
I wish I had a gazillion dollars. I'd buy me a new trailer and a box of bubba burgers!
Unfortunately they've made a gazillion dollars off this mindless pap. Doesn't say much for musical tastes in North America. Speaks volumes for marketing and main-stream radio though!
can't wait for the new Eagles album. Maybe stewing in their juices for a few years may have helped them write good music. NOT!
I generally agree with The Dude when it comes to the Eagles (I generally agree with The Dude, period), but I like this song
HooooWeeeeeee!.....that's good
Damn, I haven't heard this song in years! What a great tune.

Which song is that?
I have the tape, but I haven't listened to it in a long time.
The song is 'My Man'. The first three Eagles albums are classics. After that, well, the less said the better.

LOL. I was just thinking the same thing.
Oh, I'm down with you too.
A corporation that produced some semi-palatable easy listening "country rock" (and I use both terms loosely).
The Dude speaks for many of us.

You may not like the Eagles, but this album is great. Includes a song about Gram Parsons.

I didn't know this was an Eagles song. I thought this was a group of escapees from Hee Haw.
Learn something new every day...
Sorry, but I never could stand the Eagles... ugh! If I never heard another Eagles song again, that would be fine with me. Mute button on...

Well, they started out--mostly lead by Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner--as a country-rock band, but Frey's and Henley's rock tendencies gained the upper hand. Saw a clip of them years ago backing Linda Rondstadt singing "Silver Threads and Golden Needles." Amazing pure country band.
Actually, as I understand it, the record company was trying to MAKE them into a country band, but they really wanted to rock.
These guys are good musicians. Whether you like them or not is strictly a "musical taste" thing. No one can fault them for not being able to play and sing well.
Their first 3 albums are pretty country and bluegrass tinged....
I loved them through "One of These Nights", then they just got boringly commercial, IMHO.
"Come on, man. I had a rough night and I hate the f*ckin' Eagles, man!"
I'm not much of an Eagles fan, but I do love this entire album.

Kick-ass bluegrass.....from the Eagles?
Between that and the piece of their's that became the lead-in to the Hitchhiker's Guide series, I really should listen to their older stuff more.

I keep hearing the theme to "Smokey and the Bandit" in this song.
the eagles have great album art

see the Dude's comments in the back of the cab in the Big Lebowski
Wow, I may have to re-think my mega-suck rating for this song. I actually logged on so I could rate it poorly... but the other comments make me want to give it another chance.
take that, eagles nay-sayers! ha
Yeah, I know...it's the Eagles. So what! I like it anyway!!! Early Y'Alternative!
