Once I thought I saw you in a crowded, hazy bar
Dancing on the light from star to star
Far across a moonbeam, I know that's who you are
I saw your brown eyes turning once to fire

You are like a hurricane
There's calm in your eye
And I'm gettin' blown away
To somewhere safer where the feeling stays
I want to love you, but I'm getting blown away

I am just a dreamer, but you are just a dream
You could have been anyone to me
Before that moment you touched my lips
That perfect feeling when time just slips
Away between us on our foggy trip

You are like a hurricane
There's calm in your eye
And I'm gettin' blown away
To somewhere safer where the feeling stays
I want to love you, but I'm getting blown away
Blown away

You are just a dreamer, and I am just a dream
You could have been anyone to me
Before that moment you touched my lips
That perfect feeling when time just slips
Away between us on our foggy trip

You are like a hurricane
There's calm in your eye
And I'm gettin' blown away
To somewhere safer where the feeling stays
I want to love you, but I'm getting blown away

Big Neil fan here.  I've never liked this version of "Like a Hurricane" but I guess it's all we'll get because Radio Paradise hardly ever plays songs with instrumental solos these days.

Too funny! Disagreeable, but still very funny.

So sick of hearing Neil Young most every time I log on. While hundreds of other more popular artists never get air time.  Hello Jango and Qobuz play lists.

Today Oct 8 I turned on radioparadise to this song. Good luck Florida.

Neil lost it during covid. Cooperating with the evil forces.
The Hurricane, one of Neil's gems, it made me cry  with tears at concert 40 years ago, and still, NY touches my heart.

It's the theme from Interstellar. Skip to the 7 minute mark...
Ok. Consider these albums.

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (1969), After the Gold Rush (1970), Harvest (1972), On the Beach (1974), Comes A Time, 1977, and Rust Never Sleeps (1979).

The realize he was part of Buffalo Springfield. The FIRST ever country rock band that included some of the most influential RnR band members ever.

Then...CSNY.

Only conclusion you can make: other than Dylan, Neil has created the most impressive catalog of albums ever!
Neil and Crazy Horse touring North America in April/May.  Looking forward to see them on the road.

The harmonica on this rendition is the icing on my cake. What a tender and passionate song! Incredible! I can almost feel the awe of those that were there for this performance.

Mr. Young, thinking to himself:
"Gonna do a silly fucked up version of Hurricane tonight. Maybe get some organ in there and shit."

Me:
"WTF?"

Joe Rogan:
"Lol!"

What are you, 7?

Step away from mommy's keyboard and maybe she'll give you a Juicebox and a cookie.
I am not a Neil Young fan in the slightest - much to my husbands despair. I feel like I'm missing out because he is SUCH a fan.  However - I saw him perform Like A Hurricane live at a festival in London over 20 years go and it blew me away. For that moment in time I completely got it
I'm a longtime Neil Young fan but when I hear this one I get the sense of how he must sound to the haters.  I've haven't seen the footage of this performance but I imagine this kind of keyboard setup.
You Are Like a Hurricane... in that on average you kill 43 people and cause $78 million in damages every day over the past fifty years*

*data from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)
And you can sing  along.

Beautiful lyrics.

It ain't that hard to harmonize with Neil.  Try it.

And just ask them other guys: CSN.

Exactly.  Not always but it does have its proper place and when it's there it really works !

Ah, to those that have loved and lost. May all your old love songs haunt you until the day you die. Because they will. Burn all your old bank statements and mortgages. but you'll  always be haunted by you first love.

Kermit the Frog owns this song.
Takes me back to my younger days! Now retired, it still rocks!
Phew, just in time to mute before he started "singing"..

Sorry to all the triggered NY fans.. love you too 😘
I had this at a "2".  What was I thinking?

Solid 1 + PSD.
Why does he play harmonica on this when his voice sounds just like one?

But really, isn't that the point.

I "hated" Neil Young and any band he had anything to do with. In the office an older draughtsman (yes, he was a man) would put on Young related music and it would drive me insane! It was not a serious hatred, just an over opinionated theatrical take on something with no real malice involved. It never ended up in writing so the laughter would keep it in context. I would argue and he would just smile. Not much of an argument when you think about it!

I am now 57. I now stop what I am doing and listen, and sometimes my eyes soften my expression relaxes and sometimes I cry.

Saw Neil do this (Hurricane) on the old Phantom of the Opera harmonium here in Paris once. Nice.
OK, I saw what you did there: Bowie's Waiting For you into Neil's Like A Hurricane works for me just fine.
Sorry Neil, I love you but I miss the Crazy Horse.

Questionable voice? WTF? There is no question. His voice is just fine.

+1 just for the pipe organ!

Not just any instrument. He is pedaling like mad on an antique pump organ.

At least nowadays there's a skip button (and I guess it was there already at the time you wrote that comment :) )

EDIT: btw - this version is imperfect, gave it a 9 only.
I have loved this song since i was a teenager in the 70s    Its absolutely fantastic.   and this live version is the best
This version completely misses the mark for me. The original has the energy and rock sense that this song needs, and it blows me away every time, excuse the pun. This church-organ version sounds self-indulgent and maudlin, about as far from evoking a hurricane as you can get.

I am a massive Neil Young fan, but for some reason this song has never rated highly with me. Maybe it's because I tried to cover it and it was awful.

Love RP but too much Neil Young for my taste
??
He has several renditions of this song - and this one is weak, in my opinion.
I use to work with a guy who thought that Young´s voice was nectar of the gods. We fought, ....a lot....
We were both born in 64 so that wasn't it, he just loved it and I hated it!
15 years later ..........
I love it!, its weird, It might have something to do with my recent divorce, that the dog died, that  I´m 25 Lbs overweight and I have chronic arthritis in my joints. Come to think of it he hated his life back then.

Well, I mean, that's why it's an average. To you, it's a very good song. To me, who is not a Neil Young fan in general, and even less of a fan of this version of this song, it's a decidedly not very good song. So it averages out to somewhere in the middle.

Remember, taste in music is subjective, everyone!

If you ever get the chance to jam with Neil Young, or just watch the jam at a backyard bbq or a campfire - it's magic
Am I the only one or this sounds like a song from a Mexican band, El Tri, Triste canción de amor?
I can't believe it!! >500 voters rated this song 5 or less! Heathens.
This is an excellent evolved version of Like a Hurricane by Neil and reminds me of the masterpiece by Peter Gabriel, Melanie Gabriel, Tony Levin on the 5 string bass with his low B's and the Blind Boys of Alabama... Sky Blue live at Milan  ... almost a religious experience  ... it brings tears.  (or the non lyric, instrumental version Cloudless)

All   should be heard with good earphones such as the, Sennheiser HD100 ,  HD400/660 or similar as well as  the new Apple Ear Pod Pro's or a pair of vintage AR-3 / AR-1W's with a 1kw amp.

Oh no! I can't take it!! No guitars, no drums, how can it possibly be any good!!!! Ya fuckin wankers!! This is class! Gave it a 9. There is love, passion and tension in that wire of a voice that not one of you deniers could possibly begin to understand.
One of my all time favourite tracks.

Hmmm, I absolutely love Neil Young...

Are we sure this isn't Vincent Price playing his Gothic organ throwing back his red cape now and again?  I honestly feel like I stepped into one of 1960 or 70 soundtracks.

It sends me shivers, but not in a good way.  lol

I'll give Neil a few points for changing up his rockin' song to such a large degree.  Pretty brave.
Wow; he is so friggin' good!  Never heard this version before.  One of the Masters!
Sing it Neil👍
Fuck off Neil
Sing on brother Neil.

Some folks don't appreciate your  vocals.

Oh my!
Sweet blessed fyoook! This is still flippin' horrid.
Bill in a cool chatty mood - yay!
First Natalie doing after the gold rush and now Neil doing like a hurricane GREAT
There's no way this has only been played twice in the last thirty days. I used to like this song but it's played so regularly it's making me suicidal.
I would strongly suggest to anyone who likes this song but not this version, should watch it in the context of the Unplugged video.

Ummm. Not really. But your narrative sounded so sincere.

Slick transition there from Merchant's "After the Gold Rush"!

I Love the imperfections of his voice . Singing is not so much about technical perfection , but rather tone , presence and feeling!

Just last night I finished reading John Einarson's 1997 For What It's Worth - The Story of Buffalo Springfield.  Neil Young is clearly described as being a talented but life long egocentric,  self centered, control freak, semi cooperating, off and on, with a talented group of artists.  As documented, he was not solely, but primarily, responsible for Buffalo Springfield not reaching the status of being ranked with such groups as the Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc.  David Crosby commented that he was named "Shakey", not because of his unfortunate ongoing seizure affliction, but due to his undependable nature.  Appears that all his life he has focused on personal goals, readily disregarding any collateral damage caused to those around him.
Lovely version of this. But not as good as Roxy Music's.
As Charlie Brown would say "Aaaaaaaagggghhhh!"
{#Frustrated}  I have problems with the voice ... but good music

Well...I guess there's always Ed Sheeran or Bruno Mars as young up and coming, singer song writers. They do really good soft drink songs. Oooooooh...that means they have value.
It's really too bad that he doesn't have Richie and Steve sing for him. Ack!

Great song, but not so big on this version...a bit too depressing and low energy for me.
yes, please play original Neil Young!
But ..
Rating for the song: 10
Rating for this version: hmm, maybe only 4 or 5

My friends and me love to to play this, but latest when the refrain starts we all "go like a Hurricane" .. ;-)

I imagine he chose to use a pump organ to play this song in order to get that somber or "plodding" sound.  You can't really get a "honky-tonk", up-tempo sound with that sort of keyboard.  Obviously it's not for everyone.
Almost unbearable. How does he get away with it? A good high school band would be ashamed of this.
One of the best versions I've ever heard. Its NY. He can do whatever he likes.
