Well, it's a marvelous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
'Neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
You know, I'm trying to please to the calling
Of your heartstrings that play soft and low
You know, the night's magic seems to whisper and hush
You know, the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush
Can I just have one more moondance with a-you, my love?
Can I just make some more romance with a-you, my love?
Well, I wanna make love to you tonight
I can't wait 'til the morning has come
You know, I know now the time is just right
And straight into my arms you will run
And when you come, my heart will be waiting
To make sure that you're never alone
There and then, all my dreams will come true, dear
There and then, I will make you my own
And every time I touch you, you just tremble inside
Then I know how much you want me that you can't hide
Can I just have one more moondance with you, my love?
Can I just make some more romance with a-you, my love?

Among other things, I love the walking bass line!

The bass, the sax, the flute. This song is so good in so many ways.

I used to play this song in my busking days. Discovered the same chords work for Whipping Post.

not a hater but his voice just 'nips my head' now ... sorry - I hear and see the talent but wouldn't want to be stuck in a damaged elevator or lift with him when he's had a good drink and feels like singin a song to keep our spirits up ...

This song = *gulp*. Ever since An American Werewolf In London. And that was a long time ago. First thing I heard this morning was this song. Last thing I saw before I went to bed was a super moon. Imma just sayin'.
Sigh. I got tired of this one about seven years ago. Up until then, I couldn't wait to hear it again. DOA and DFO. Both.
Just wondering: if he wants to make love to her tonight, why can't he wait 'til the morning has come?
amazing how ignorant our generations are when it comes to Jazz vocals. Stuff like this is considered "epic"to those who never heard, ex, Billy Eckstine
Gotta dance!

Oldie goldy classic. Period.
My friends family name is moondance.
It's hard to imagine how badly Van would have to behave in person, to negate the massively positive impact of this song alone. So far he has not managed it, despite apparently trying quite hard. pxd
This song has always made me wonder exactly how those Mormons dance...

Can NOT believe that this was released 45 years ago.........
OK, I do like this song, but right next after Anita Lipnickas song Car Door? C'mon, that was totaly unfitting!
I'm sitting at work, Van Morrison is singing about making love to a woman and how she shivers and I start to feel like it would be much nicer to be home with hubby, enjoying the things that make you feel like he sings
Thanks Bill for confusing me

I did lights for a Van Morison concert in a little burg in upstate NY in the 70's and he was totally creepy. He pushed his way in, didn't speak or look at anyone, cussed out his band during the performance, put out a good set but engaged the audience zero%, finished the last chord and stormed out. Killed my taste for his music for 15 years. I s'pose there are people who think I'm a good performer as a scientist, but a creep as a person. Gotta take the long view. I listen to him a lot now that I'm an OG too.
A few months ago I saw Mark Ellen (TV presenter, journalist and all-round nice chap - CV includes NME, Smash Hits, Whistle Test, Mojo and The Word) talking about his new book, stories from his life in music.. a great read.
Anyway, he was asked who was the most awful person he'd ever interviewed over the last 35+ years. He refused to answer on the grounds that he's be sued for libel, but said that there are two sorts of people where Van the Man is concerned - those who think he's a genius.... and those who have met him!
Doesn't stop this being a Top Tune!

You need to click the cursor elsewhere on the page - outside of the ratings drop-down, before scrolling using the arrow keys, otherwise, any upward or downward commands will stay in that drop-down list.

I always thought that Van's voice had a distinct Porky Pig feel to it in this song. I still love it, but I still see Porky in my mind.

I met him and his publicist in a hotel 5 years ago, no one has made such a bad impression on me since. He really just thinks that he is one of the last great stars in our time and should be revered as royalty. i wouldnt pi55 on him if he were burning.

Great song. I have to disagree with commenters who don't think this is RP material. Just about any of Van Morrison's music would not be out place here.
This song VERY much applies today, as it's October, the leaves are falling, and there is still some moonlight left from the full moon we just had.
