Seems like yesterday
But it was long ago
Janey was lovely, she was the queen of my nights
There in darkness with the radio playin' low

And the secrets that we shared
Mountains that we moved
Caught like a wildfire out of control
'Til there was nothing left to burn and nothing left to prove

And I remember what she said to me
How she swore that it never would end
I remember how she held me oh so tight
Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then

Against the wind
We were running against the wind
We were young and strong
We were running against the wind

The years rolled slowly past
And I found myself alone
Surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends
Found myself further and further from my home and I

Guess I lost my way
There were oh so many roads
I was livin' to run and running to live
Never worried about payin' or even how much I owe

Movin' eight miles a minute for months at a time
Breakin' all of the rules that would bend
I began to find myself searchin'
Searchin' for shelter again and again

Against the wind
Little somethin' against the wind
I found myself seekin' shelter against the wind

Well, those drifters days are past me now
I've got so much more to think about
Deadlines and commitments
What to leave in, what to leave out

Against the wind
I'm still running against the wind
I'm older now but still running against the wind
Well, I'm older now and still running
Against the wind
Against the wind
Against the wind
Still running
Against the wind
I'm still running against the wind
Against the wind
I'm still running
Against the wind
I'm still running against the wind
Against the wind
Still running
Against the wind
Running against the wind, running against the wind
Against the wind
See the young man run
Against the wind
Watch the young man run
Against the wind
Watch the young man runin'
Against the wind
He'll be runnin' against the wind
Against the wind
Let the cowboys ride
Against the wind
Mm
Against the wind
Let the cowboys ride
Against the wind
They'll be ridin' against the wind
Against the wind
Against the wind
Against the wind
Ridin' against the wind
Against the wind
Against the wind

Just make sure when you're running, you're not farting against the wind.
Average rating today is 7.3 so it seems that all you haters below were incorrect.

Easier said than done.
Maybe change the direction once in a while so you don't always keep running against the wind.

I wouldn't expect to hear B. Seger on R.P., Not that it's such a terrible piece of music, but like "Hotel California" it has been so schmaltzified by over-exposure, I cringe whenever I hear it. Leave it for the "Soft Rock" market.... please.

It fits nicely here on RP, and given Bill's genius for combinations, goes nicely with Nothin' But a Breeze (Jesse Winchester) and Hurricane (James Vincent McMorrow).  A windy set.

NO, NO, NO. Not here. Not now, not ever. Leave this to commercial airplay, please Bill!

You must be lost in time.  This hasn't been commercial airplay in over 30 years.

H8!!!!
Very much reflecting the ca. 1980 Jackson Browne sound.
This song is very difficult not to like when it's sung by such a natural raconteur.

Agreed on the 10 rate, and the feeling/meaning of this song is/was important to me even before Forest Gump.

It's too bad when good becomes overplayed and therefore somehow bad. I respect those who just don't like it; for those who've just heard it too many times not so much.

This is one of those songs that found me right when I needed it most, and that's why I rate it a 10.

"I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then" is one of my favorite song lyrics too.

Long Live RP and keeping on keeping on!!
As a pianist I confess I quite like Paul Harris's Bruce Hornsby-esque solo.
Just in case you don’t recall the background lyrics, they go:
“Against the Wind” (* 100)
Bob Seeger doesn't get the respect he deserves. He was out there on the road being 'Bruuuuce' before Bruce was.
great words... thanks bob...

Yes, but Bob Seg(e)r is not too bad.
1º song
bob seger is so awful..i never want to hear him on RP.
i mean he can sing, and its not like he is repulsive like KISS or RATT
or all those cookie monster metal bands, but short of that he is just horrible.

I gotta believe the RP tent is big enough to include Bob Seger. I wasn't dieing to hear Bob, but I think this fits fine here.

I seem to stick up for a lot of songs on RP that others complain about....but not this one. Heard this too much while searching bad radio stations in the car to want to hear it here.

A friend of mine once tried to count how many times he says "against the wind." Don't remember, but I think it was in the hundreds! It's kind of grown on me, as well, though.
Ah jeeez. Whenever I hear Bob Seger, and especially this one, it rockets me right back to high school in southern Indiana. Seger had constant airplay (along with the local fav, Johnny Cougar (not-yet-Mellencamp)) Hot sticky summers, swimming in the quarries. A loooooong time ago. Thanks (I guess) for the memory.
It's nice to hear this every once in a while.
NO NO NO NO! Bob Segar blech...
Typically, I don't like Bob Seger, but this song is quite good and has come to mean more as I've grown older.
