They look down
At the ground,
Missing.
But I never go in now.
I'm looking at the Big Sky.
I'm looking at the Big Sky now.
I'm looking at the Big Sky.
You never really understood me.
You never really tried.
That cloud, that cloud--
Looks like Ireland.
C'mon and blow it a kiss now,
But quick,
'Cause it's changing in the Big Sky,
It's changing in the Big Sky now.
We're looking at the Big Sky.
You never understood me.
You never really tried.
This cloud, this cloud--
Says "Noah,
C'mon and build me an Ark."
And if you're coming, jump,
'Cause
We're leaving with the Big Sky.
We're leaving with the Big Sky.
And we pause for the jets--
hup! hup!--in the Big Sky!
You want my reply?
What was the question?
I was looking at the Big Sky.
Tell 'em, sisters!
"Rolling over like a great big cloud,
Walking out in the Big Sky!
Rolling over like a great big cloud,
Walking out in the Big Sky!"
At the ground,
Missing.
But I never go in now.
I'm looking at the Big Sky.

She has odd stuff in there, but, for me, it's amazing to see how she crafts her music.

This should be Montana's Official State Song

She's said that she had to get "a little drunk" to sing this. Heh. What an image.

probably a "7" but she gets an extra point for my hopeless boyhood infatuation with marrying Kate and living happily ever after. ie she will always score high with me. Does that last sentence sound a little creepy or is it just me?
I've had a love/hate relationship with most Kate Bush songs, but time is winning me over to almost all those I hated in the past. Vanity wants me to think I've become more accepting, but more likely Kate was just that far ahead and I am 50 years behind. Oh well, pleasantly breathless as I try to catch up. Thanks, RP, for keeping that target in front of me.
I'm looking at the big hair.

Judging from some of the sadly misguided comments below it seems Kate (and Tori) should move to New York city... after all, as Elbow note, "it's the modern Rome, where folks are nice to Yoko".
I've always been deeply indebted to my college girlfriend who introduced me to Kate Bush back in 1980 as she was just hitting her stride. Imaginative and deeply intelligent lyrics, kicking MOR girl singers to the pavement with her thrilling vocal stylings, and ethereally sexy to boot. Still holds up decades later. Lovely stuff; to the haters *pffft*.
11!

Hearing this song makes me think that somebody should forcibly administer a couple hundred milligrams of chlorpromazine to Ms. Bush. She's clearly suffering a psychotic break.

Never did see Kates Bush live...too bad.
I read the - obviously mostly sincere, not gratuitiously hateful - dislike people are expressing below ("worst song ever played on RP" disqualifying itself nicely, quite on its own, including "worst" and "ever" and "RP", which just can't be together in one sentence, universal law), even by people who like her.
This admittedly is making me feel a bit lonely and sad. The thought that everyone doesn't feel what I feel about it. I know it's normal, we're all different. That doesn't make it easy to deal with, I'm in one of those moods.
But in no way does it change my love and gratitude for the song nor for Ms. Bush and her work in general.
Love this album. Still holds up well after 30 years.
Brilliance.

Damn... sometimes you gotta wonder what the hell she or her producer were thinking?
Kate can sing!
How many octaves could she sing in when she was young?
This song just feels right. I feel so happy listening to it.

Yes, msymmes, I too remember the "spirit of radio" when it really was! There was a lot of Kate Bush being played on CFNY - I think DJ Ted Woloshyn had a crush on her. They played lots of great music on that station - so much so that I remember 80's music with a great deal of affection and nostalgia, unlike a lot of other people who probably didn't have the good luck to listen to CFNY.
On that note, thank gods for RP!
I grew up in Toronto listening to K B on CFNY (The Spirit Of Radio, where we passed around petitions to help keep the radio station keep their broadcast license). Well I digress, but I have always heard that Kate Bush could sing in more octaves than anyone on the planet. Not being a musician of any sort, I would like to know if the rumour is a fact and not just a dream. But darn it, she is good.

My arms are weaving up and down, swaying all around as I imagine looking up at The Big Sky. Did K.B. do drugs to get inspired? Just being silly. I love Kate's music and voice. Know she isn't for everyone and this isn't her best song, but hey folks this was a song from the 80's.

Such a fab tune, marred by that dumb background vocal after the line about "looks like Ireland". Really, Kate? Diddly-da, diddly-da, diddly-da? Really?
