There was a wicked messenger
from Eli he did come,
With a mind that multiplied
the smallest matter
When questioned who had sent for him
he answered with a thumb.
For his tongue it could not speak, but only flatter
He stayed behind the assembly hall,
it was there that he made his bed,
Oftentimes he could be seen returning.
Until one day he just appeared
with a note in his hand which read,
"The soles of my feet, I swear they're burning".
The leaves began to fallin'
And the seas began to part,
And the people that confronted him were many
And he was told these last few words,
Which opened up his heart,
"If ye cannot bring good news, then don't bring any"
from Eli he did come,
With a mind that multiplied
the smallest matter

I have this Faces album, and others, on vinyl. Scratchy as they are, the band still sounds great to me.

Spends all day clicking between 7 & 8.
How?
From that era when Woderick sang hard.

Well, this is lackluster/not special compared with what other bands on the scene at this time were doing. Years later, 'do you think I'm sexy?' certainly found him a more marketable niche.

How'd Rod go from this to "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy"?! Sheesh.

Hasn't age well. Same as Rod..
First time hearing this. Pleasantly surprised at the low rating. This is shrill.

I'd like to hear a Steeleye Span cover of that...
Sir Roderick!

The best of Rod Stewart - with the Faces.

Rod....please get outta Vegas, call Jeff Beck and give us one more white boy blues album.
Rod at his best
Keyboardist Ian McLagan lives here in Austin and plays regularly with his band, the Bump Band. When in town he generally does a free admission show at the Lucky Lounge every week.

Funny, Rod and Ronnie never really changed hair styles since (little shorter maybe).
Love the deep bass in these late 60 early 70 rocker tunes.
what's that silly fella on the left wearing on his head, hmmmmmm, wonder if he's ever gonna make a name for himself looking so goofy
(damn fine Rock though!)

Ha, My mother just went and saw Rod last weekend, she's a couple of years older than him.
Wonder if he played anything like this

Liking this new Faces trend on RPNow we need to hear Three Button Hand-Me-Down.
Come on BillG!
Come on BillG!
Rod rules!
Hard to believe this is the same guy who sang "spread your wings and let me come inside" !
wow, surprised this doesn't rate higher. always loved this cover... it's been ages since i heard it. i like rod's phrasing.
I love this cover, especially the slide guitar parts, it has a gut-bucket simplicity and that trademark rough edge that Rod the "Nod" no longer uses...He could bark and growl with Beck and occasionally did so with the Faces......the simple fact that Dylan could not sing in any fashion at that point was emphasised when a singer attacked his material!
I would bet that the Black Keys heard this version; I really like their version as well !
Sounds very sloppy. I guess it was a sound they were going for.
anniebear wrote: wow......this song rocks alright, but the lyrics sure are DATED! Good gods save us from midevalcycle songs as rock opera......a curse on you Led Zeppelin! Damn this song rocks, as long as I just ignore whatever crap he's saying and focus on the sound
Well, you gotta understand the context here...it's not one of those Spinal Tap "Drewidd" (insert Cockney accent here) anthems, it's an I-fell-off-my-motorcycle-and-broke-my-neck-and-almost-died-and-now-I'm-exploring-my-mortality Dylan song from John Wesley Harding. This the wheat, not the chaff.
But hearing Rod Stewart sing Wicked Messenger is like watching Forrest Gump meets Pulp Fiction: Gump Fiction, where Forrest/Rod is gonna get all medieval on our buttocks.
I think Rod Stewart rocked with the best of them, and I really liked the Faces, but there's something about Stewart's voice that's always made it hard for me to take him seriously, especially when he covers a song like this. Rod Stewart singing Wicked Messenger sort of reminds of a classic Saturday Night Live opening monologue by Rob Reiner where Reiner plays a Vegas lounge singer slaughtering Blowin in the Wind by his "good friend Bobby Dylan."
Is that Rod Stweart on the left?
This is rockin'!
Don't know why this is rated so low on here, this rocks.
Yeah. Now this is some stuff.

That says it all. In the Faces he was great and he was good up until about Atlantic Crossing, then mostly downhill after that.
The Faces put out "Five Guys Go Into A Bar" last year, a 4-disk anthology that has more good than bad on it, and has songs from Ronnie Lane and I think Ian McGlagan sang on a few. GREAT stuff.
Ever since he didn't know whether he was sexy or not and had to ask around, Rod's gone downhill.

Rod Stewart?
Rod used to Rock back in the Days
Come on. Admit it. Even if you don't like this song, you have to smile when Rod's voice first kicks in. At the very least, Bill surely had a big grin on his face when he put this into the play list.
And not a bad tune, on the whole.
I'm off to the bar. . . back when this finishes
I don't think I would like it, but it would at least sound better if they were all playing and singing the same song.

No, Rob Stewart, his talented brother.
Yuck.

I could swear this is actually Faces and NOT Small Faces. I could be wrong, but I would place a fairly hefty wager on it. (I know what the album that is sold says, but I think they're even wrong)
You may be right, because the main difference between The Small Faces and The Faces was their leadsinger (Steve Marriott/Rod Stewart).

These young whipper-snappers wouldn't know a good song if it kissed them on the lips.

Dunno.. like a lot of other SF/RS tracks better than this one. Why not some moldy-goldies from "The Rod Stewart Album"?
Great!
