Hey I said you're godless and
It seems like you're a soulless friend
As spotless as you were back then
I swear that you are godless
Hey I guess you're lonely when
I gave you all it took so then
A stranger there is ever been
I guess, it's what you wanted
Of late, it seems lonely I would be
I begged, I plead
But this is all that I have gotten
Hey as for the day my friend
To hope that you could ever bend
I swear you are, I swear you are
I swear, that you are godless
Hey I said you're godless
Hey and you're a soulless friend
Hey I said you're heartless
And I swear, I swear
Godless
Godless
you're godless

This whole album is both wholesome, sometimes weird, downright awesome and mellow, but always really endearing.

godless
adjectivenot recognizing or obeying God."a godless country"

Great flow -but so much a use of My Sweet Lord - George harrison riffs
My sweet lord…

Go on..
Godless - Dandy Warhols
Govinda - Kula Shaker
Waile - WITCH
Uptown Funk - Mark Ronson
I Wanna Be Sedated - Ramones

This has to go on a plaque somewhere as the most insane (and fantastic!) playlist ever. Govinda -> Godless I see the link, but the rest I would never have thought to put together in a million years. Glorious.
Thought this was Russ Ballard's Voices
love the horns in this one.
I see some comments regarding sounding like other songs. I'd say that any song with a 12-string guitar sounds like My Sweet Lord. ;-)
Wow! Just Wow!

The transition from Elton John's "Sixty Years On" to this song was so seamless that Godless just seemed like an extension. It blew my mind, and I'm not even stoned.

If you keep doing those kind of seques, Bill, you might even be able to start up a successful online radio station
Anyone else start singing "My Sweet Lord"?
unapologetcally still like this
Agreed Bill & Beck are completely positive for the world and each other.

How many great songs have we heard thanks to their acumen ??

Oi Peers (leechers): send some coin to RP. We enjoy and they have costs.

Every time I hear this it gets a higher rating... 10 now. The BPM is perfect, the arrangement is excellent.

To all who cite plagiarism:  Did it occur to you that the Warhols chose the chord progression of "My Sweet Lord" as a contrast to "Godless"?  Jesus, people, think a little deeper, please.

Personally, I think the lyrics are directed towards a friend who professes to be religious, but the speaker is calling him out.

More on this -   if you listen - the TRUMPETS are similar to the trumpets used by the waterboys on  early albums  think A Pagan Place or This Is The Sea ( the pan within maybe )   old england is dying?   i'll need to listen to it again to be sure
This was good song on a great album. Their hitsong featured on it as well, but the whole album was a complete work of art.

(as with Violator by Depeche Mode)
Great segue!
Listening to this song I get a visual of someone really, really high sticking a finger in my chest and rambling at me.

I'm in Toronto and feel fortunate to have found RP...it's a pleasure to help support such fine and varied content from two lovely people

I've been listening to RP for more than a decade. It's the nest example of which I know that leverages the power of the internet for good, gracing the entire planet with it's programmers knack for showcasing  amazing music.

When friends inquire about whether the music stream is Pandora or Spotify, I explain what I surmise to be Bill's key insight. You really can't have an interesting, for profit, local radio station. Costs are much higher and moreover, connecting with listeners within a defined broadcast area, necessities  bland and repetitive content. At the pinnace of Bill's insight sits RP; such varied, high-quality programming and a world-wide audience, some 10% of whom (myself included) pay a small sum to underwrite Bill's and Rebecca's Rockin' Roll Lifestyle.

All the Dandy Warhols songs are the best Dandy Warhols songs.
What an absolutely incredible segue from Joan Osbornes "One of us". Amazing! Long live RP!
What a nicely put together song. Many layers.

Perhaps. Though, based on much of the Dandy Warhols catalog utilizing fairly trivial and repetitive chord progressions, that might be giving them too much credit.
The best dandy Warhol song in my opinion
Nice selection for a Sunday morning.
Excellent!
Someone nicked some guitar from Harrison ...

A great track that had previously caught my ear as I had already given it an 8. May have to bump this to a 9. It's the kind of track you'd want on a soundtrack/playlist as you bring a bunch of old friends together for a reunion and say "Hey guys, check out the cool music I've been listening to."
Of course everyone is godless. If only more people realised.
(Nearly) the entire album is absolutely godlike.

Well said Choosy.  You've pretty much summarized my feelings.  I've been contributing $10/mo. since I first discovered RP in 2004.  Long live internet music powered by the human soul!

Oooh, how about a segue into Creedance Clearwater Revival "Run Through the Jungle" from this?
Transition from COYB's "Hollow Talk" to this...
This song is a 10, the song after it on the album (Mohammed) is a 10, and I will hear no arguments otherwise.
Just bumped up my rating, but I've never liked the music more and undderstood the lyrics less.
Nice segue from Hollow Talk, Bill! Seamless!

...and George got sued for his "ripoff"! WTF!

You can call this My Sweet Chord.
Wow! Nice transition!
bumped to "Godlike"
Anyone else seeing the closing sequence of Bill Bailey's 'Part Troll'?
SEMPRE un bel ritmo canzone che si ascolta volentieri e si distingue nel mare
Damn, that was a great segue from "Hollow Talk" by Choir of Young Believers.

I think it does include the one playing, as I've never seen "0". Besides, it can't be "0" as the moment that the song has been played for listener A, listener B may not have heard it yet :)
By the way, great segue from COYB!

Well, if they can rip a little from the Stones, nuttin' wrong with a little rip from Harrison. I like it.
Always makes me think of Bill Bailey
never ages.
With opening guitar strum I thought this was a My Sweet Lord cover by someone like Jesus and Mary Chain. Love it.
This one, with a few more listens, could go even higher. It just delivers more and more each play.

Dont know this album from Kuepper but for sure this song could be on "Prehistoric sound", the great album from the Saints. It sound exactly the same, but it's oK, it's a very good song.
I will forever remember the day I got this CD, pressed play and tried to do some paperwork but ended up just listening to the whole thing all the way through. Desert Island disc (or the modern equivalent I guess) for sure.

At the very beginning, I always think it is going to be Steppenwolf's Magic Carpet Ride.

Likeable but super derivative.  Funny how people give that a pass.

Herb Albert would be proud.... & George too.
Don't forget the 6:08 live version!  Dandy's recorded two shows at the Wonder ballroom in Portland in 2013 that came out in 2014 (Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia Live At The Wonder).  And brought the horn player!  Some tasty trumpet on this cut

Portland IPAs and the DWs.  Best day ever!
Godless is Godlike! Once this is done on to find that +5 minute version!

Now that is a funny comeback, Proclivities!

And even to this day I don't get how George H was found to have unconsciously plagiarized the Chiffons' "He's so Fine"  - unbelievable really.  At least the Dandy Warhols made use of the "My Sweet Lord" sound humorously in giving us "Godless."  It's a 9 from this Sweaty Seattleite (hey it's in the 90s here {#Sunny}

Good call

Other than the first two chords, it's an entirely different chord progression than that of "My Sweet Lord" and "He's So Fine".

Sounds like an Ennio Morricone mix of My Sweet Lord.

It was fantastic to meet all of them.  They were very cool and down to earth.  Got to see about 3 songs during sound check, then the band hung out with us for a bit.  The show itself was great - but they had trouble with getting the sound right in the venue, so that could have been better.  Highly recommend seeing them if you can.
 KaraokeVox wrote:

uh..what about churches?  oh...they are out of vogue nowadays because you find entire families there.

Churches, yes! My bad. My parents took my brothers and me to church about five times by the time I was 10 and then gave it up, so I don't have much personal experience to draw on. Now, M&D are hip-deep in their Unitarian local.

1/5/16 edit: Excellent segue from Bowie "Heroes" to this, which in a fit of enthusiasm I have boosted to 10.

Saw them in Chicago recently they were excellent. If a fan definitely do the VIP option - they were VERY cool to meet and hang out with, plus seeing their sound check and a few songs they did, including my own request!  Courtney told me they will have a new album out in early 2016..!  He shared the production and editing became epic, but almost done.

BTW, Dig! movie fans, I asked about that and they all agreed it was very much edited to show tension between them and BJM that really was not there....your inside scoop of the day.

Nice musical pun (or at least a musical allusion). That song mentions 5 (or so) different forms of God, and this song is called Godless...

Edit: that's a compliment
10 Godlike for Godless
