There is nothing that competes with habit
And I know it's neither deep nor tragic
Simply that you have to have it
So you can make a killing
So you can make a killing
So you can make a killing
I wish I was both young and stupid
Then I too could have the fun that you did
Till it was time to pony up what you bid
So you can make a killing
So you can make a killing
So you can make a killing
I could follow you and search the rubble
Stay right here and save myself some trouble
I try to keep myself from seeing double
Or I could make a killing
Or I could make a killing
Or I could make a killing
And I know it's neither deep nor tragic
Simply that you have to have it
So you can make a killing
So you can make a killing
So you can make a killing
I wish I was both young and stupid
Then I too could have the fun that you did

Discovered AM through the film "magnolia". If you liked this . . .
I like the lyrics but the mix is not very good...
I must say I know Aimee Mann thanks to Buffy the Vampire Slayer ...

Still sounds great, in any event (lovin' that fuzzy guitar).
Just thinking that EXACT same thing. I wouldn't have placed this in '95...guess I was a few years behind.

It wasn't until I saw her live that I realized she sung through her nose. I've been very distracted by it ever since.

Nice and appropriate follow-up to Trespassers William. Thanks Bill!

This is just a tremendous album, especially with the attention to detail from the fabulous Jon Brion.

What was the famous quote from Pres. Reagan's obscenity Czar, Ed Meese? "I can't give you a definition of pornography but I know it when I see it." That's how how I feel about good song writing, and this song certainly fits that bill.

Such a wonderful song. Love that distorted guitar underneath.
I love this song. I love this album. LOVE!
The sound of two ladies I am in love with (musically speaking, anyway.....): Aimee Mann and Juliana Hatfield!!
.... the very excellent Ms Mann gets a BIG fat 9
This song is still good for the ears...
I could make a killing too. Repeat the refrain a few more times and that might be what happens.

Heavenly! I could listen to her day and night. If I have a choice, I'll pick the nights.

Hard to believe this is an oldie but goodie. I'm with Stupid was, IMHO, one of the best albums of the 90s.
this resonates with me. 8.
Waste of time, a weak 5. Time for a coffe break.

I'm a big fan but she just can't hold the crowd at an outdoor festival. This song has some punch but most of her music isn't cut out for 10,000 sitting in a field. I saw her a couple weeks ago at the Hardly Strictly festival in SF and at the ACL festival in Austin a couple years ago.
About half way through her set I gave up and wandered over to the stage where the next act I wanted to see would be playing and caught the end of a set by a band I'd never heard before - Galactic. Holy shit! Now those guys are made for outdoor festivals.

Well, the cover is OK.

You mean Cold Play is now ripping off Aimee as well as Satriani and Radiohead?
Very similar to Cold Play's "Warning Sign". Almost identical groove and chord changes..

Aimee's best album, according to both her and me
Always liked Aimee.
Nine for the album cover alone ....

Pretty good. I like the crunchy electric guitar. And for some reason—not sure why—I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Aimee.

She's brilliant. Come a long way from "Voices Carry" and the '80s hair!

Great album. Pick it up.
Adding positive comment! One of my favorite artists
She's a goddamned goddess. In her prime here. Many equivalent and better songs on this CD. She has no peer.
Keep singin' Aimee!

I love you Aimee! Gosh darn it why won't you return my calls? Boo hoo hoo!!!!!!!
Nice song!
i've always liked aimee also, she's real, a genuine fragileness comes through in her nice voice
Music sounds like Eels.
Yea a bit nose-heavy, but what a great album cover.

Man, how good is she?
According to some recent posts, not very good. Something about her voice sounding kinda nasal and stuff. However, those posts are from people who have opinions that are possibly not 100% valid. As a matter of fact, it's somewhat....(EDIT) blah, blah, blah...
I like Aimee, she doesn't sound too nasaly to me. (END EDIT)
Look, the last thing I want to read from someone UNDER THE SEA is complaining about holding one's nose closed.

Repetitively repetitive
Isn't "Long Shot" on this album? I love that song, compares favorably IMHO to anything on the magnificent Magnolia soundtrack...

As much as I love and admire Aimee, this album ranks at the bottom of her solo work IMO. However, this song is one of the better tunes on it.
Not a very good album to introduce new listeners to her.

Huh, I disagree. I like this album. Not every song is a winner, but songs like That's Just What You Are, Amatuer, I Could Make a Killing, and the opening cut (forget the name) are all good songs. Of course I have awful taste in music, so that could explain the difference... ;)

Did anybody see Aimee last night on Conan O'Brien's show? She was awesome! and I think she's hot too!
FWIW, her brother-in-law was Chris Penn.
Man, how good is she?

been a long time since i heard this wonderful song here. i also love Deathly by her. the first words are classic ......"now that i've found you, would you object to....never seeing each other again?"
According to pt anderson, that line was the impetus for Claudia's (Melora Walters) character in Magnolia, and her character is the impetus for everything in the movie.
At the latest concert of hers that I went to in Amsterdam she said that this song was about Liam Gallagher from Oasis!
Whenever I hear her I think about downloading lots and lots of MP3s Outside The Corporate Structure...

dot remembers seeing juliana in the early 90\'s. she looked at the floor all night and hid behind her hair. she was wonderful.
dot.
Oh Mann! :)
Neil Finn followed by Aimee Mann - I must be in Paradise.
If anyone wondered - yes, that\'s Juliana Hatfield (of The Blake Babies and then solo fame)singing harmonies.
:D
Thank you Thank you Thank you for playing stuff from her \"I\'m With Stupid\" album - this whole album is awesome (in the way Beatles albums used to be!)
