You guys have to check out the Susan Tedeschi version - it redefines the song!
(Joan & the Indigos are swell, but they're just female Dylans for the purposes of this tune.)
I love this song ...but twice within six hours without the original?

I agree. I am not fond of any Joan's covers of Bob.
it's time to play the original. Dylan's version is very listenable, even to the Dylan haters (kevinm )
Yep.
i dunno. i think it's a good cover. i enjoyed it a lot. the indigo girls are a guilty pleasure of mine, i think. heh.
Joan Baez' voice doesn't do much for me, but the harmonies are as beautiful as Peter Paul and Mary's version of this tune.
I didn't think twice - I gave it a 10!
nope.
Worst cover of this song yet.
mmm good!!!! Thank you Joan, Amy and Emily!!!!

gee, too bad i can't appreciate this; it seems quite good. unfortunately, however, Joan is so firmly identified in my mind as a Marxist, feminist, militant lunatic that i just can't stand the woman or anything she does....sad when we let politics ruin things for us, but, oh well...
:P <-(
That's too bad. You know, I don't hate Ted Nugent's music because he's a right-wing, gun-totin', conspiracy spoutin' wacko. I hate his music because it sucks.
Oh man! I don't think it gets much better than this.
Baez and the Indigo Girls singing Dylan just fantastic! Absolutely perfect!
What lovely soaring vocal harmonies! Joan Baez' voice was always "angelic". Simply beautiful, these voices together with the simple acoustic guitar. Nice job!
The Susan Tedeschi version of this is even better IMHO.
Baez sounds great but who are the Burly Men singing backup?
JOan Baez still has a great voice.

Where, pray tell, did you come up with you're statistic of "95%"? Did you conduct a poll? Actually, I make a deliberate effort NOT to know the politics of musicians - that way I can enjoy their music without predjudice. ...and Rush Limbaugh is not my hero.
Thanks for your temperate reply, OSS. It's reassuring to know that you're not a major Rush fan.
In all events, I was reacting to your reference to Baez as a "militant lunatic" a characterization that seems rather extreme, unless one wants to call her songs about social justice, civil rights and the Vietnam War "Marxist" and "lunatic," which could lead to people using labels like Neanderthal.
As for the artists played on RP....we could roll thru a few hundred rock group web sites and public statements if we wanted to check politics and a 20 to 1 ratio would be a safe guess. But, you're right, it's not worth the time. Back to the music. Glad we're friends again!

I understand how you feel about the political thing. I enjoy the exchanges among listeners in the music comments and the forums and much appreciate the people who participate. Now, your Neanderthal politics make you the first RP listener that I know I dislike.
Given that 95% of the artists on RP share the political views it must be difficult for you to find music you enjoy on this channel. I understand R. Limbaugh has music on his station. Try there!
Oh, love Joanie, but IG aren't tops on my hit list.

sometimes a cover lets you hear things you never heard before in a song.
I always think it's fun to hear an old favorite by someone different--OK maybe not ALWAYS, but I like this one.
Look, I am certainly devoted to Dylan's version and Joan's original version. But this version is so beautiful it made my mouth fall open and I still haven't closed it. GORGEOUS.
Third version of this song I've heard today. Clapton, Ness, and this one.
well, it is indeed an exceedingly earnest rendition, and they did it their own way.
sometimes a cover lets you hear things you never heard before in a song.
of course sometimes you're attached to the original and the cover loses something that made you love it in the first place. like those weird country versions of Pink Floyd songs that set my teeth on edge.
a lot of people must have said Jimi Hendrix's covers didn't have the soul of the original, but they do have their own soul.

OK, I must speak out. This is the 2nd cover of this song, so it has roused me from my slumber...
This version really sucks. While I enjoy and appreciate the artists covering this song, they have cut out its very musical soul: the aborted title verse. In the original, this lyrical verse ends abruptly before the musical verse.
That, IMHO, is the song's catch. It symbolizes the what-else-can-I-say bluntness of ending a relationship.
Frankly, Joan has more taste and appreciation for good music. So did the IGs, I thought.
Blech retch arf!

Oh this is so awful... How f***in' sincere can we get?
What a perfect match, Joan Baez and the Indigo Girls!!!!
Complaint: Cannot get my volume up high enough!
:) :grouphug.gif:
truly wonderful...stopped me in my tracks the first time I heard it
play!
