They said there'll be snow at Christmas
They said there'll be peace on Earth
But instead it just kept on raining
A veil of tears for the Virgin birth
I remember one Christmas morning
A winters light and a distant choir
And the peal of a bell and that Christmas Tree smell
And their eyes full of tinsel and fire

They sold me a dream of Christmas
They sold me a Silent Night
And they told me a fairy story
'Till I believed in the Israelite
And I believed in Father Christmas
And I looked TO the sky with excited eyes
'Till I woke with a yawn in the first light of dawn
And I saw him and through his disguise

I wish you a hopeful Christmas
I wish you a brave New Year
All anguish pain and sadness
Leave your heart and let your road be clear
They said there'll be snow at Christmas
They said there'll be peace on Earth
Hallelujah Noel be it Heaven or Hell
The Christmas we get we deserve

Awesome!  Thanks Bill, and happy holidays!  RIP Greg Lake.  This has been a bad year for rock gods.  ;-(  {#Meditate}
Thankfully, seems this one rarely makes it to the Xmas playlists rotated in department stores etc.  I'd almost forgotten it existed!
RIP Greg Lake , One of the founding members of King Crimson as well
Lost 2 of them this year.  Looking forward to the new year.
Great Artist

always loved this song
Greg Lake gone too soon, RIP
R.I.P. Greg.
We lost the man on December 8, 2016, but the voice lives on.....
Yes. Brutally honest, maybe, but beautiful all the same.
:-) I have another version of this song by ELP; this is the original and it's amazing.
Close second to John Lennon's Happy Christmas (War is Over) for poignancy and hope.
This song can still give me chills. Love it! Greg Lake has an amazing voice!
good stuff!
"And their eyes full of tinsel and fiyaaaa..."
I was just thinking of this song the day before yesterday. I remember a small group of skeptical kids with their lives ahead of them. The Christmas we get we deserve.
