Day's full of rain
Sky's coming down again
I get so tired
Of these same old blues
Same old song
Baby it won't be long
'Fore I'll be tying on
My flyin' shoes
Flyin' shoes
'Til I'll be tying on
My flyin' shoes
Spring only sighed
Summer had to be satisfied
Fall is a feeling
That I just can't lose
I'd like to stay
Maybe watch a winter day
Turn the green water
To white and blue
Flyin' shoes
Flyin' shoes
'Til I'll be tying on
My flyin' shoes
The mountain moon
Forever sets too soon
Being alone
Is all the hills can do
Alone and then
Her silver sails again
And they will follow in
Their flyin' shoes
Flyin' shoes
And they will follow in
Their flyin' shoes
Sky's coming down again
I get so tired
Of these same old blues
Same old song
Baby it won't be long
'Fore I'll be tying on
My flyin' shoes

Top, top track. This version is a 9 for me. The Lyle Lovett version is a 10, and among my most favourite tracks of all.

FYI
Glory Fountain began as the duo of John Chumbris and Lynn Blakey, who called themselves Sundowners. The two natives of Washington, D.C., had begun a casual songwriting partnership after becoming acquainted at a local studio while recording. When both Chumbris and Blakey settled in North Carolina, the pair began to craft songs together and to play out on area stages. Chumbris would play guitar and contribute harmonies, while Blakey wrote lyrics and sang. Glory Fountain evolved into a four-person outfit with the additions of drummer John Williams and bass player David Collins. The group has performed with a list of artists that includes Tanya Donelly, Mary Lou Lord, Juliana Hatfield, the Backsliders, and Whiskeytown. Before settling down in Glory Fountain, Chumbris played bass in both the Wanktones and the Slickee Boys. Blakey previously teamed with Lynda Stipe and Linda Hopper in the Georgia band Oh-OK. Williams has worked with the Lubricators and Econoline, while Collins worked with Eighthundred.

Nice - sounded like Richard Thompson playing, especially at the start.

Nice haunting quality about it. I thought for a moment it was Aimee Mann on vocals

Cool, some lesser-known Townes van Zandt! Nice version. . .although Townes in his later years did a fantastic, stripped-down version that oozes with loneliness. I'll see if I can dig it up and upload.

Great tune here. Loved it for years now and still unable to buy their album. :/

There are many good renditions of this song out there, but this is the best of all.

The el guitar elevates this song's quality greatly.
most excellent : )
nice cover of a great song
Great rockin version of the Townes Van Zandt classic.
boring..
Tough job trying to follow the Church and Under the Milky Way which is why I will refrain from giving the low rating I was about to cause it is probably more of a comparative mark.
My dad was Uncle Bob, and yes, he was a cool uncle.
That is a superb guitar tone in there. Another one on my list!
Very nice - Townes Van Zandt lives on
Great set this morning at work... Thanks Bill
Nice!

I was going to ask if I was the only one who kept mishearing the lyrics as "blood in shoes," but then Bob followed this up today with the Eels' Fresh Blood, so maybe not.

... c'mon, they're not Flying Shoes, they're Sailin' Shoes, so put 'em on!
Interesting, John Chumbris came out of The Slickee Boys.
Darn it, Bill, have more vinyl to dig out and digitize.

So boring
Not terrible. Lyle Lovett did this on his Step Inside This House venture. His is a better version IMHO.
Thanks, Bill. Townes Van Zandt.
I\'ve never heard the original but a friend of mine plays it.
This song is very familiar. Someone fill me in. There\'s something haunting about that ascending 2nd line in the verses.

and Townes Version? more than 10!
