What else should I be
All apologies
What else should I say
Everyone is gay

What else could I write
I don't have the right
What else should I be
All apologies

In the sun
In the sun I feel as one
In the sun
In the sun
I'm married
Buried
Buried

I wish I was like you
Easily amused
Find my nest of salt
Everything's my fault
I'll take all the blame
Aqua sea-foam shame
Sunburn with freezer-burn
Choking on the ashes of her enemy

In the sun
In the sun I feel as one
In the sun
In the sun
I'm married
Buried

Ah, but such extraordinary depth of beauty her long long struggle has afforded all and any who may receive such grace... Wow, just wow!

i'm a huge Nirvana fan... but like gilmorecairns said below - it's an apples and oranges situation here. i'm really diggin this version a lot on its own. doesnt compare to the original, but it doesnt need to either. she has made it into an entirely different song with new meaning. very cool.

Very cool indeed!!
Rest in Peace

R.I.P. Sinead.  Thank you for some special music.
Sleep well beautiful girl, for your long, long struggle is done.
It's sad that she left early.
She was a great artist. But her problems were probably too overwhelming.
Sadly i just read that she is dead at 56 years old, very sad about that, such amazing talent but a difficult life made it so tragic.

RIP
It's July 26, 2023. I'm listening to this moments after learning that Ms O'Connor has died. She was quite the talented force. Rest in peace Sinéad.
A voice from heaven - RIP Sinead
Just heard the news. RIP Sinead; I hope you've found peace x.
RIP Sinead.....
I think she matches the almost unhinged intensity of Cobain well on this one; a rousing version to be sure!
She has such a lovely voice.
Beautiful.
She has manged to do this quite well - I doubt many other artists could.
JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN, DOESN'T MEAN YOU SHOULD!!!
I like Sinead better than Tori Amos, and this is a  bit more different than the original compared to Tori's disastrous Smells Like Teen Spirit cover. That's the only reason this gets anything higher than a 3. They're both unnecessary.
BOth the Nirvana and O'Connor versions have their places. Amazing....
This set reminds me of a set I caught coming out oF RPI  while driving back from a wedding. It was great. They would play a tune by a band and then they would play a cover of that band. This was over 35 years ago so all I can remember is a tune by the Beach Boys and Todd Rundgren's "Good Vibrations" then a Grateful Dead tune with a Bananarama cover of a dead tune. Great stuff.
Aqua sea-foam shame?  Always struck me as being a forced lyric looking a rhyme with blame and the correct number of syllables...

Sinead O'Connor, Irish musician and abuse-victim, was so incensed by Benedict's fake empathy, she wrote a fiery article for the Washington Post where she said:

"Irish Catholics are in a dysfunctional relationship with an abusive organization. The pope must take responsibility for the actions of his subordinates. If Catholic priests are abusing children, it is Rome, not Dublin, that must answer for it with a full confession and a criminal investigation. Until it does, all good Catholics... should avoid Mass. In Ireland, it is time we separated our God from our religion, and our faith from its alleged leaders."

Provides a lot of context for her photo ripping.  I had no idea how extensive things were until watching the Spotlight movie.
I love a cover, like this one, that encourages me to listen to the lyrics anew.
Okay! This song just followed Nirvana's cover of Bowie's "The Man Who Sold The World," which followed Bowie's live version of "Seven," which I had never heard! Gave it a 7. I like these sorts thematic runs. Nicely done, RP.

Holy Moly.. This is an abomination.   Nothing Compares to the Original.  ;)

Nothing Compares was also a cover tune she did. I do not know of the Abomination cover you mentioned. ;-)

(I'm happy that Bill touches on all tastes and genre that we can praise and cringe to)

Keeps getting better... every time I listen. We sometimes need it to go to eleven.

I caught that too, and was suitably impressed. Don't listen to radioparadise that often, but always a pleasure.

AND AGAIN TODAY      a bowie song, folloed by a Bowie cover by Nirvana, followed by a Nirvana cover by O'Connor    Fantastic set

Really like this version of a classic tune. Solid 7 for me.

It turns out that prayer is no defense against covid ....

Similarly, bluster is no defense
    goodbye Donald the Insane

A great cover - such a sweet beautiful voice singing such sad lyrics.

"Aqua sea foam shame" - I enjoy when people come up with phrases like this.
Kurt didn't make it through his pain but Sinead continues to be interesting.
how is this the first time I've heard this?  beautiful cover.
Just so you know, Bill...not all of us are fans of these (devoid of creativity) cover songs
This is really awful.
Wow Bill, quite a run:
Bowie to Nirvana Bowie cover to Sinead Nirvana cover - niiiice!
Well done - I thoroughly enjoyed that. Honored the emotionality in a completely different way.
I love it when Bill plays these unusual covers

Today it was a Bowie song, followed by "A David Bowie Cover by Nirvana [The Man Who Sold the World] followed by this Nirvana Cover..."

I'm smiling at the humor of it all.
Whoa, hang on.  This is not okay...
she should apologise for this cover

As a computer scientist, seems kind of recursive.
Nice list Bill! Bowie, Nirvana, and Sinead doing All Apologies. Well connected.

How about enuff of these mushy, intimate versions of "rocker" songs

too band because this chick can sing
I never liked the original, and I never liked Sinead O'Connor, but I like this.
Ha! I like it, so there.
Beautiful rendition by a strong artist imo

This Lady-Singer congregates all the predicates and parchments that a singer can have, including your strong personality. For everything and because i like of hearing and appreciate your work, Tankyou Ms. Sinéad Marie Bernadette O' Connor. God Bless You! -

That ol' cueball can still carry a good song. Here's all you need to know: https://snltranscripts.jt.org/90/90ksinatra.phtml
Again, I say this is THE WORST POSSIBLE version of this song. It is perhaps one of the worst covers EVER. Kurt is the only thing that made the original worth listening to.
I ask myself, what would I think of this if I'd never heard Nirvana's superb original? Answer: I probly wouldn't give it a second thought.

A great song is a great song!
"Pretty cute for a bald chick" -classic!
I like it. She's replaced the angst with compassion. Nice.

Not even in the same city. Tori's cover at least replaced the anger with sadness and desperation.
I think I hate it because she over-enunciates everything except when she's being blatantly irish-sounding.
Boooooooooorrrrinnnnngggggg.....
This sucks worse than William Shatner's remake of "Mr. Tambourine Man". "Mr. Tambourine Maaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnn!"
Ouch.
Oh god, retch!!! blech
why, why, oh god, why?
Truly awful.
I think she's made this song her own. Very fitting.

I completely agree with you. It's nice and all but the passion and angst is definitely missing. This makes for a very mediocre cover in my opinion.
She sings Sharp all the time..
Blech. Sometimes I think there are just too many covers. I find myself in one of those times right now. I don't mind Sinead at all. I like much of her work. This just fell short because it's a lifeless cover.
Apples and Oranges to compare the two versions, you must accept each for what it is. A beautiful song. (a time for angst, a time for sadness...) :goodvibes.gif:

she has a tendency to ding very sadly, i've noticed. her music has a sad feel to it. perhaps she changed it from its angst-ridden roots into a sad kinda song. it's not my favorite work of either artist - but it's okay... meh.

I was thinking to myself "where's all the angst" when I read your comment. This is the same as a clinical discussion of sex - technically correct with none of the passion.
hehe... like that creepy Canadian sex talk lady on WE or Bravo or whatever.
Hmm... never heard this cover before. Not as good as the original, but interesting nonetheless. I agree with a previous poster who noted that you can finally understand the lyrics in this version! This song aside, I'm having a sublime RP moment... there have been 8 songs in a row that have been really, really divine.

In the same neighborhood as Tori Amos\' \"Smells Like Teen Spirit\". Gotta be in the right mood for either, I guess.
I love her voice, but she murdered this song and then danced on it\'s grave.
Another Nirvana song that you can finally understand and appreciate the lyrics, once someone covers it. Grunge was such a waste. All that brilliant writing, and everyone has marbles in their mouth.
she sucked all the angst out of it... argh
I really like the segues and set selection on RP. Going from Wierd Al\'s \"Smells Like Nirvana\" to this track is the sort of inspired programming you just can\'t hear over the air any more.
WOW!!! I really like this version and I\'m not a Sinead O\'Connor fan. Great cover...
There is ... at times ... a sweetness to her voice ... that is very touching ... a quality that I really like !*! :D
I accept your apology and give you a 3 ;)
