Headin' for the station with a pack on my back
I'm tired of transportation in the back of a hack
I love to hear the rhythm of the clickety-clack
And hear the lonesome whistle, see the smoke from the stack
And pal around with democratic fellas named Mac
So take me right back to the track, Jack

Choo-choo, choo-choo ch'boogie
Woo-woo, woo-woo ch'boogie
Choo-choo, choo-choo ch'boogie
Take me right back to the track, Jack

You reach your destination, but alas and alack
You need some compensation to get back in the black
You take a morning paper from the top of the stack
And read the situations from the front to the back
The only job that's open needs a man with a knack
So put it right back in the rack, Jack

Choo-choo, choo-choo ch'boogie
Woo-woo, woo-woo ch'boogie
Choo-choo, choo-choo ch'boogie
Take me right back to the track, Jack

Gonna settle down by the railroad track
Live the life of Riley in the beaten down shack
So when I hear a whistle, I can peep through the crack
And watch the train a-rollin' when it's ballin' the jack
Well, I just love the rhythm of the clickety-clack
So take me right back to the track, Jack

Choo-choo, choo-choo ch'boogie
Woo-woo, woo-woo ch'boogie
Choo-choo, choo-choo ch'boogie
Take me right back to the track, Jack

Take me right back to the track, Jack

I believe this song was released in 1946, not 1944.
This always reminds me of the Friday Night Fish Fry radio show.

Already done here. I mean really, there are apps that charge a monthly fee, right? So why not give a similar monthly stipend to RP to help with the costs and keep the music rolling?
How am I supposed to get any work done with all this boogie going down?

Every great artist has a mentor and an idol, this is James Brown's.
Makes you imagine our soldiers dancing to this song during their quick R&R in Honolulu or in England before going back into deadly battles in the South Pacific or in the many battlefields of Europe from which many of them never returned. 1944 was a very tumultuous time in human history. Who knows if this might have been the last song some soldier or sailor or Marine ever heard or danced to. I find music to always be tied to a time in history in my mind.

What else can a person say but Choo-choo, choo-choo ch'boogie
Take me right back to the track, Jack!!!!

Well said.  This song is just on the edge of the jump blues that was John the Baptist of rock and roll.

Well that was well said too! (:

In Toronto in the early 80's we would go to listen (and watch) the best cover band in the world - "Professor Piano and the Rockin' Deltoids".

This was a favourite.  But they moved on to become a Disney World house band.  Good for them.

There were some cool cats even back then.

Should follow this up with this:

Now this has some schwing that really takes me back, Jack.  err I mean Louis......

Is it uncool to complain about this being remastered? I miss the hiss and pop of an old recording...
Let's all dance to a song about homelessness and unemployment. "Take me right back to my shack, Jack."
So much for the wonderful but non existent US rail network!
Wa-hooooo! That's me dancing across the floor.

Great cover - but has there ever been a bad one? How absolutely swingin' and brilliant this song is! Makes me so happy to hear it.
Right after a Robert Plant song?   Awesome Bill !!

A saw Ride with Bob earlier this year and loved it.

Rocks.  {#Clap}
Louis was awesome.  So many great songs.
Remember this...no Louis Jordan, no rock and roll. He is THE man.

Just a note  Bill, the band name is misspelled; it looks like it should be "Tympany Five" not "Tympani Five".

The right stuff.

Great to hear Louis Jordan on RP!   And this seems like as good a place as any to express gratitude to Joe Jackson for introducing my generation to Mr. Jordan's music with his terrific "Jumpin' Jive" album back in the '80's.
Good to hear the original and not the more current versions for once.  This recording is 63 years old...and still fresh.

Wasn't paying much attention until I realized my toes were tapping and I was bopping in my chair! Great song.
One of my all-time favorites.  Glad to hear Jordan getting some luv.
Great song and have to agree Ray Benson and Asleep at The Wheel do a hell of a cover
tappity tap tap tap!{#Biggrin}

Go here: (click here) Quite interesting, really.
Thanks RP for playing the great Louis Jordan. Anyone who listens to the live version of "Caldonia" is hooked on his music.
DIG.
Makes me want to grab my wife for a twirl around the dinner table! Thanks.
This was once known as "boogie" or "jive" and it was written and performed to dance to, really fun music.
Love that he said "live the life of Riley". Who was Riley, anyway?
Hard to believe I've only known the Asleep At The Wheel version all these years! Pretty darn similar....
Zep wrote:
You know Asleep at the Wheel do a great cover of this song too.
Yes, and even Manhattan Transfer did a lively version as well.
Love it! Nice way to end work!
I could really do without this.

Asleep at the Wheel has been around almost as long as the Stones. I saw them at the Armadillo in the early 70's.

Asleep at the wheel has had played this a staple of thier live set for years. Thier version is very much an homage this version. Awesome, See them live......
Anyone who knows anything about the history of Rock & Roll will tell you that Louis Jordan was an integral figure in the music's evolution. Before Elvis, Chuck Berry or Little Richard, this guy was making music that became the blueprint for Rock & Roll. Thanks for playing it!

Ah, the modes-of-transportation set :o).

A thematic as opposed to musical transition. I know a transportation engineer who would be made very happy by this set.

Took quite some time for me to realize my parents' great taste in music. Mom use to sing parts of this one around the house. Wonder if she still does. She might; she's only 94.
And again today
The Who, now this? Awesome. The playlist of a true eclectic, no doubt about it!

Agreed! And on a Friday, what fun.
I know this post will probably have the consequence of spoling the record, but I think it is nonetheless necessary to point out that out of 109 votes, there is not a single 1 or 2. Only Jordan ...
Oh, I love that most folks actually sink into this. Pure swing. My parents would love this - and they'd rest a little easier knowing I love it, too. I miss them...
That was a strange segue from The Who to Louis Jordan, but the Choo Choo Ch'Boogie works probably just after everything.
Take me right back to the track, Jack!
Looks like EVERYONE digs this one - me too!
First Magic Bus, then this! Can't sit still in my chair at work dammit! :propeller.gif:

Have owned this CD for almost 20 years. It's excellent. Have about worn it out. Perfect if you ever have a party and want to find out who can jitterbug... The picture of the album cover changed. I WISH I had the boxed set! Jordan is phenomenal!
Throw something like this in a little more often!
That is fun!
oh man, The Who followed by Louis Jordan!?!?!?! It's the reason I listen!
Put the top down, let's go cruising
Choo Choo! This is a pretty cool song, thanks RP! 8)

Where else but RP would this follow The Who? Fantastic!
I only knew this song from a cover done by Manhattan Transfer. Liked the cover, but the original...oh, man!! Love it! P
Now I need some gum.
Great song from a great artist.
Great stuff!
Oh yeah.... Nobody did it like Louis Jordan. Some would call him the true father of rock and roll. More! Please!
ahh, such a great song :D
More please! Louis Jordan always puts me in a great mood!
