life? a reaction to emptiness.
time? continues for the boogey man.
just give me one chance to feature you in sunshine
and we could both dance the offence wall away

hello, hello
losing concentration
losing motivation
losing ground
so low, so low
don't like moderation
stop the conversation
are you down?

love? a reaction to some soft skin
what about trust? i've seen it here and there
just give me some girls
be careful what you wish for
now take me out
ooh honey, let's go dancing

hello, hello
losing concentration
losing motivation
losing ground
so low, so low
don't like moderation
stop the conversation
are you down?

Could we get past the "sounds like" game. Let's play "this I like" game.

Agreed.
Thanks Bill.

I knew I couldn't be the only one although I thought it actually was MPs at first.

Yes - Alex Ebert aka Edward Sharpe.
Don't like the song but you got to love the title. :-)

Never heard this one before.  I like it - it makes me want to dance on a tabletop... {#Dancingbanana}

Easily.

Isn't the lead singer of the band the same guy that fronts Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero's now?
Been too long since I've heard this one... thanks!
Holy crap, my friend is the bass player for this band. What a pleasant surprise. For their heavier side, check out "Here Come the Bombs" to experience a nuclear powered freight train with no brakes.
Bill, thanks for dusting this one off. Nice to hear again.

Up next, on our "top ten bands that are worse than 80's pop" list...
I hear a bit of Gary Numan/Tubeway Army influence here. Shame it slides into pop oblivion though...

Me like the bassline.
"Love - A reaction to some soft skin " caught my attention for sure...
Yes! I love this album. Thanks, Bill!

I gave it a 10, just for this comment.

Just gimme some girls, be careful what you ask for Ima Let's talk Turkey!
Not my favorite song -- or band -- but it does -- and they do -- always catch my attention when played. And not in a bad way, either. That's got to count for something.

Same here. There seems to be some metal/hiphop shit at the start that is kind of offputting. I'll give it a few more spins. Maybe it's just too hip for a Boomer like me...
Hahaha, you're serious? "metal/hiphop"? If you mean, they rhyme, then yeah they sure do, but I could point out a million artists who rhyme. I bet Bob Dylan's under Hip Hop too. All sarcasm aside though, I can see how it's either a love it/hate it album, because the lead singer does have that voice that can come off as annoying. So does anybody sample cd's anymore before buying? Or do they shell out 12-16 dollars because 1 song was good? Incase you all weren't aware, www.bn.com (barnes and noble) has 30 second clips for every song on a giant selection of cd's.

Great band! I love their album, it all works very well together. I found them somewhat annoying at first when I heard Dynomite way back, but it grows on you, and then you're hooked.
I'm SOOO mad... one of my TOP 40 listening friends got last minute tickets to the MTV Campus Invasion Tour last week. They came to the little town I went to school in, but not here, though I would've driven the hour because IMA ROBOT was the opening act (I really could've cared less about Hoobastank and whoever else was there). Anyway, my friend told me about it and said he didn't really like them... too 80's for his taste... I guess there's no accounting for taste any more, huh...
I agree--very catchy tune!

I've had this darn song stuck in my head since RP played it 2 days ago. Just couldn't shake it. I'll agree with the other comments that it does remind me of early eighties new wave, a la Gary Numan, The Cars, Missing Persons et al., which is a good thing. RP, Thanks for turning me on to yet another interesting new artist. -randomprime I'm Rick James, bitch.
Excellent band. As good in concert. I am seeingthem in LA MARch 15th again, they play often. If you can dig it up try and find the single to Song # 1, with the extra tracks STD Dance and Ages of Ruin, fan f'n tastic songs.
Picked up this CD and while I love this song I can't seem to get into the rest of the disc - maybe a few more listens.

Since you're posting here, I can only assume you enjoy RP. If that's the case, maybe the negs among you could consider posting when you enjoy a song or have a legitimate beef, rather than using the open forum to slam one another. Just a thought. That said, this is a great freshman album by a band I hope to hear more of in the future. "Scream" also played here, is really terrific.
I agree. Music should be enjoyed. Sometimes comparing a tune to others is fun and sometimes it is destructive. The artist(s) puts out a great amount of energy to bring us their art. I would like to think that the majority of music is produced for the enjoyment of others. I for one would give a body part to have the talent to create music.

Their cover art reminds me of boston 8O

Definitely Missing Persons-ish. I like it. Seems they remind everyone of someone but can't agree on who.
I'll go with the Missing Persons, changing the gender of the singer. About the only real similarity to Rush is the occasional jump to the stratosphere in the vocals, but even then, that's really a Missing Persons affectation or maybe Gary Numan up an octave, but not the way Geddy would do it. Raven
I keep hearing the comment on RP and from other people, that this band is great, but nothing new. I agree, but as I recall, right before Nirvana "broke" all these retro-1960's bands were getting hot reviews and attention.

Time to stop smoking the "medicinal marijuana"! ;) Cool tune, especially since it's relatively new. Nice 20-year throwback. (but still not as good as Rush)

Obviously spotting talent is not one of your strong suits, though this song is quite good.

I'll have to agree that this song (maybe all of the band's output, I don't know) is somewhat derivative of a bunch of different influences. On the first shot, I heard Devo without the synthesizers, but I agree with the Cars, Missing Persons, and David Bowie. I'll pass on the Rush, though - just because the backing vocals go into the stratosphere doesn't automatically imply Geddy's influence. there are a lot of other singers that do that gig... (I'm a bit of a Rush snob ) Raven
This is the second Ima Robot song I've heard, and I really think this a lot like 1979 Gary Numan. Not "Cars" but earlier than that. "Praying to the Aliens" or "Machman." Derivative, but in a good way.

They must have a little Duran Duran influence - did anyone catch the line at end of first verse: "...and the aphids swarm away" Recalling The Chauffeur from Rio: Way down the lane away living for another day The aphids swarm up in the drifting haze Swim seagull in the sky towards that hollow western isle My envied lady holds you fast in her gaze
kinda Missing Persons like
Pretty cool stuff. I think this review sums it up nicely: https://independentmind.com/music/reviews/imarobot.shtml

Yeah, I totally hear that. Except in this case, the singer's voice doesn't make me want to STUFF MY EARS WITH VERY, VERY SHARP POINTY OBJECTS, which is a good thing. :D I often wish someone sold a "De-Rushifier" so that I could listen to Rush's music and turn off the singer.

I hear Geddy Lee in the voice, but the song is far to simple to have been influenced by Rush.

I don't know, I heard this song once and ordered the album, its a great purchase.
Sounds like something outta the '80s... will want to hear other songs before making a value judgement, though.
Speaking of influences, Rush perhaps?
Reminds me of Suede and other glitter/glamour-influenced stuff... Catchy chorus...

I don't chime in here in the song comments very often - but I'd like to encourage everyone to give this one a chance. Yes, there's a definite 80s vibe going on here. But it's hardly a rip-off of anyone's style - just a natural reprocessing of formative influences. That's how all music works, imho - & certainly no reason to write these guys off.
um, yuk
I like it. I think saying something sounds like David Bowie isn't a bad thing... At least it's not very common to hear a band that sounds like David Bowie.
Someone wrote something like, "It's great to find a band that has their own sound." Unfortunately, this band ain't one of them. Sounds like the love-child of (early) David Bowie and Ric Ocasek.
Nope.....not even close. Sometimes we go back and reassess, I've upped the mark from 3 to 6.
:verymad:
This song has me wondering about my lack of tolerance.
