I've listened to this album since the year it was released and it's effect has never waned. For me, this is a brilliant recording from start to finish. Thanks for playing, Bill.

ANOTHER first for me here at RP.  I've heard very little of this band previously. A quite unusual sound. It's challenging. I'm not sure how deeply it would get in to me, but I appreciate its odd or eccentric aesthetic.

Gave this a 6:  7 for the song and a sucko barfo for the album cover.

It's rare when a song stops me in my tracks and demands that I give it a "Sucko-barfo" rating and also that I talk about the experience self-reflexively as though it were momentarily the most important thing in my life.

So glad to hear this band on RP. A brilliant album.

Wow, this one's a surprise! A really great album that brings back memories ...

The rest of the album is great. Nothing else is in the style of this song though, all much harder so it doesn't fit into the format of this station I don't believe. The guitarist, Omar Rodriguez has a solo album coming out this summer I think webworkchicago wrote:

I made an eclectic music cd full of songs played on Radio Paradise and this song was the last one on the CD. The strange thing is when I play this disc I cant wait to hear this song (Televators). More than any other song on my disc it intrigues me. It has a feeling of psychedelia and other qualities of the old days of rock but at the same time the song is quite modern sounding. Also, the singer has a voice that I havent really heard of before. I will be checking out other stuff from this band !

At first listen this sounded really bad. Hopefully it doesn't start to grow on me. But then again, At The Drive-in sucked too... If I want to listen to music I can't hum or whistle to, I'll listen to jazz...

I thought this song was a joke, then realized they are actually taking themselves seriously. It's a caricature. Yuk.

This song keeps grabbing my attention. I'll have to investigate. Anyone have any info on this bands choice of nomen?

keep on breaking down the walls and stamping out mediocrity, RP! i'm a huge fan of The Mars Volta and of atdi, and i can understand how their sound can be a bit challenging at first... but isnt that true with all truly great, innovative works of art?

What am I missing here? That was quite possibly the worst sounding 5 minutes of music I've ever heard on RP (well, outside of Natalie Merchant, but that's a different story). I read the other comments - were we listening to the same music? That sounded like something three poseur college students would throw together in the middle of the night for an excuse to blow off studying for their philosophy midterm. Just terrible.

I think it's something that belongs in the category "Word Salad". It doesn't make sense, it's not supposed to make sense. It's English, but it's been rinsed, chopped, and spun. I like the budgies in the background. They could just isolate that and play that as a song and I'd like it. I miss my folks long departed budgie, at was always singing and squaking.

i didn't know they could sing... i used to like at the drive in. i haven't given this stuff a listen yet.

Some pretty talented musicians...but what the hell is he talking about. I know the story behind the album, but still...geez.

Not only is this the best album of the year, but I saw them perform live for 2 and a half hours and it was the best concert I have ever seen. These guys are the real deal, every member of the band is extremely talented. Flea has publicly stated that these are the best musicians he has ever played with... I love this! The rest of the album might be too loud for this station, but damn is it good..

8) Holy fark! I never thought I would hear this on RP. easily the best album of the year, in my opinion. simply amazing. I can't rave loudly or frequently enough about these guys. when at.the.drive.in broke up I was ticked, but this new rebirth of Omar and Cedric with an extremely talented new band (you need to hear the drummer's chops in particular) leaves atdi in the stoneage. this is truly a groundbreaking album, the likes of which only comes along once in an awfully long time. as someone mentioned below, it is a concept album to be taken as a whole, rivaling all of the greats from Floyd, Yes, Radiohead, King Crimson, NIN, Tool, etc. all of the tracks are brilliant as stand-alones too - though this one in particular is somewhat of an interlude to the more energetic segments of the whole piece. anyone who is sickened by the stagnant state of what passes for "rock n' roll" these days, and the musc biz in general, needs to pick this album up ASAP. innovative genius. these guys make music exciting once again. check out their website for some more audio and video samples - click here ROCK ON, RP!!!

Bill! Thank you for playing The Mars Volta! The Mars Volta has given me hope for the future of progressive music. I will rip and upload the entire album if you wish. I understand that a few of you guys didn't like this tune. That's too bad. The album that this song appears on (De-loused in the Comatorium) is a concept album that really needs to be listened to as a whole to be fully appreciated. I tell you folks what. Go to your favorite peer to peer client and download all the tracks from this album. Listen to them in order a couple of times. If you like what you hear, buy the album. I bought it at Best Buy for under $10. The track order is: 1. Son Et Lumiere 2. Inertiatic Esp 3. Roulette Dares 4. Tira Me A Las Aranas 5. Drunkship Of Lanterns 6. Eriatarka 7. Cicatriz Esp 8. The Apparatus Must Be Unearthed 9. Televators 10. Take The Veil Cerpin Taxt In context, this album is a masterpiece. If this band hangs around for a while, this album will most definitely be their Dark Side of the Moon. I know that this is a big claim, but these guys are that good. Rick Rubin produced and engineered this album, and Flea and John Fruschiante both stepped in to help this guys out in a few parts. It is a great album with tons of soul-baring emotion. Check it out.

The Mars Volta rocks my socks off, but this song is the one "mellow" song on the album. It doesnt cary the muster it does on the album without the follow up track 'Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt'.

All due respect, Bill ('cause you know you rock hard), but this set (Enigma, Massive Attack, seven years of Pink Floyd, and Mars Volta) is killing my soul.

Blecch - terrible

This was kind of annoying. The music was okay, but the voice/vocals were sort of lame.

I found this album in a record store listening station. It awakened me from the slumber induced by the drivel they were pushing. By song two I knew I would buy it. I was going to upload it to RP, but the long tracks and strangeness made me think it was a long shot. Besides, most of my uploads get rejected, so I thought "Why bother?" Sorry I doubted you, Bill. So I just uploaded another track. This album works better as a whole, and this song is pretty mellow as far as this album is concerned. If this stuff intrigues you, pick up the album. It's kind of like Radiohead's Bends and early Floyd with a frenetic pace.

I rated it a 9. Never heard the tune or the band before. Interesting mix of elements ...
