Dissonance is good! GREAT TUNE!!
I'm pretty open to most jazz (and have played a fair amount of jazz guitar myself), but I do have a problem with intentionally discordant harmonies. IMHO this song set would be a lot more enjoyable without the brief moments of dissonance.

November 5, 2019: Just heard an NPR story about mellotrons, and it included Mr Medeski as a principal source.

I keep thinking that someday I'll mature to the point where jazz doesn't bore the f*ck out of me. Hmmmm. nothing yet.
If you're old enough to operate a computer and you still don't get it, you never will. Back to "Theme from Blue's Clues" for you.
goodness gracious, if this doesn't take me back almost ten years... haven't heard this one in a dog's age.

original! this is the kind of eclectic jazz that should be played on RP ...
hmmm. reggae jazz.
i saw these guys a few years back, before they found ja rasta. very talented trio!
Liven up yourself is a reggae classic

Astounding live performance, if you ever get the chance. Highly recommended.
Have tickets for March 12 Orlando.

Did I miss something? What does this have to do with reggae? Anyway, the beginning of this tune made me think of "Watching the Detectives" by Elvis Costello.
EDIT AND NOTE TO SELF: Now I get it. Sometimes you have to listen to the whole song before commenting, DUMMY!

They have performed live here in Lexington, but I have never had the chance to see them. I hope they return. I won't miss the opportunity again.

sorry, but the reggae parts don't do it for me.

Medeski, Martin and Wood, law firm by day Jazz trio by night.
nice! !
Wish I could like jazz. I know that it is America's only ORIGINAL music form, but it just doesn't float my boat. I DO appreciate the chops that it takes to make jazz, however.

Shack-Man is their best album, IMO
I agree. Shack man is sublime!
Ah yes. Great to hear some MMW.
I saw them live a few years ago at First Ave in Minneapolis, and it was one of the best live shows I've seen.
Ah.... MMW from back when they were really good. Shack-Man is their best album, IMO, but this song set is sweet.
This is horrible.
I do NOT like the original reggae, but this is great!
Kind of cool, but give me Monk's original anytime.
Oh my. This is so fine.
Thank You for the info!
