Everything is made from dreams
Time is made from honey slow and sweet
Only the fools know what it means
Temptation, temptation, temptation
Oh, temptation, temptation, I can't resist
Well I know that she is made of smoke
But I've lost my way
He knows that I am broke
But I must play
Temptation, oh temptation, temptation, I can't resist
Dutch pink and Italian blue
He is there waiting for you
My will has disappeared
Now confusion is so clear
Temptation, temptation, temptation
I can't resist
Temptation, temptation, temptation
I can't resist
I have never understood the appeal of Krall. The biggest compliment I can pay her is that her voice is pleasant. There is no soul, no guts. This is cruise liner lounge jazz.
What cruise lines have you been frequenting lately?
If you enjoy this great Canadian chantuese's version of the Tom Waits' classic, do yourself a favour and give a listen to the Holly Cole version. - a little more stripped down and breathy, and pretty cool.
Holly Cole - Temptation
In fact, Holly did an entire album of TW covers, titled Temptation.
I came on here to suggest just that...but you already summed it up better than I could have :)
and just waiting for any song I don't like so I can put this perfect station on pause. Not going to happen, I know that. Oh, too bad, rest time now with Diana.
Sounds like the voice of experience, fredriley. (And good to see you're still posting!)
Was a Diana Krall fan 25 years ago, and found a TV show with her performing at the Monterey Jazz Festival. Forced my teenage boys to watch with me. After two songs, they were as spellbound as I.
I vote 9 for this one.
Cool story. Thank You for sharing it.
Don't resist temptation - it may never come your way again :o)

Rude... another hands in his pocket loser me thinks.
Your comment underscores the old line that if you are a jerk it's better to keep quiet so that people only think you are a jerk rather than opening your mouth and proving it.
How very appropriate a reply to victoryluna's "untuned" (?) ears! DK slam's this outta the park!
Sensual, Alluring, Provocative, and Sweet Honey Smooth Jazz 🎶Jazz, 🐾 Jazz 🎷❤️
Couldn't have said it any better! Def an "eargasm" to the nth degree!
Audiophile elevator music.
You seem to be stuck on the 13th floor!!
Audiophile elevator music.
Written by Tom Waits. Elevator music? I wanna be in that elevator!
DK ain't got no soul. Underscores the old line about how white women shouldn't even try to sing jazzy.

How about it's just good music to listen to?

you forgot to mention Idiocy, Moron, and . . . never mind, it ain't like it'll ever happen.
Also, RP is NOT my go to for staying awake driving tunes. Not why I listen, not that Bill doesn't play some.
Moving this back to the top for Bill!
One could imagine that Bill gave you his answer today. Again.
Moving this back to the top for Bill!
Jealous- I miss it so much...
Yes, Tony is not. I would go with the misogyny thing, but why did Ms. Krall drop her cover of "For No One" from Quiet Nights - sang from a woman's point of view? Can't find it anywhere now.

You Should See Me in a Crown, Billie Eilish
Hey Lion, Sofi Tucker
Temptation, Diana Krall
And it WORKS., the sum is greater than the whole....
My 15 year old daughter told me to turn my music down while playing Eilish. I told her she should try listening to some of this new music. She said "I already own that song, Dad".....
It's not wrong, but it is legal?
That's exactly the problem with this version - you wouldn't say that if it was Holly Cole...!
I wouldn't say it for this, either.
Have they ever done any work together? I could google but am feeling lazy and look to my fellow ReePs to dazzle me with their knowledge.

The way she sings "Oh so CLEAR" puts me off the whole song. The word "clear" sounds strange, like her throat tightens up.
Oh, for heaven's sake! ONE WORD puts you off the whole song?
I admit it sounds like she ran out of air, but I love this song.

So, you're rejecting the Tom Waits original because he's a man? (Just teasing you, Fred.)
Gotta say - Diana Krall has a scary way of seducing men and women with her voice - I've heard the original, but this rendition just makes me weak in the knees. And by the way - temptation will be a mainstay in life - it'll always be there, so you CAN resist it, knowing it'll manifest itself again and again. Choose your temptation. I'm pretty sure there's a wise saying in there somewhere, but I'm tired, so I'll leave it to someone else to extrapolate.
I prefer the original, but who's to say she can't record her own version? I like it. What has to be added really?
She (her bassist actually) added a great deal to the first few seconds of the song, as far as I'm concerned. After that, I'll take Tom's version.
Tom Waits, right?

He wrote the vehicle.

I've always thought they'd be one of the most interesting celebrity couples to have dinner with.
A few years ago my date and I found ourselves alone with Mr and Mrs C in the back section of a good Vancouver restaurant, and seated close enough that I could have tapped Elvis on the shoulder with my bread knife. We could hear every word of their conversation (kids, what he did in the studio that day etc) and it took a real effort for us to not sit there silently eavesdropping and at the same time carry on our own conversation realizing that they could hear us, too. My date had on a pair of vintage patent leather black and white flame Doc Martin oxfords that E gave a few sidelong glances, but it never turned into a conversation opener.
Now I can say I had dinner with Elvis and Diana...and that they like their Bloody Caesars extra spicy.
Incredible Torch!

Good one! LOL!
Costello and Krall leave me cold. I recognize the discipline and technique but......
I have always enjoyed her... I know what you mean... but I think she is doing fine...
"but I think she is doing fine"?? I hope that was an attempt at humour. Diana Krall was named 'Best Female Vocalist,' for a second year in a row.
illuminating comment, stkman. because of what you said i especially listened out for the piano, but it was so far in the back i felt this must only be doing her a dis-service.
Yeesh ....
I don't especially get the music either, but I can totally understand why people do —- it's that whole jazzy torch singer thing.
I've always thought they'd be one of the most interesting celebrity couples to have dinner with.
LOL she is way too sexy looking for Elvis but thats not the point, she has become a damn good vocal stylist but her strong suit has allways been she is a amazing jazz piano player, been listening to her for years, do think the recording industry has pushed her into more commercial stuff
I will rare it a nine
Roger that!
I love all that's happening in this track.
