I was wondering why nobody else was commenting on this... is it just me? Then I went digging and found this comment.
I really quite like Ben's stuff, and this wouldn't be unbearable were it not for the fact that he changed the lyrics which contained the title, of all things. Every time I hear it, and he must sing it a million times during the song (it seems), it sets my teeth on edge. I think it's giving me OCD.
I wonder if he thought he was being clever, or if he just genuinely got it wrong?

I don't know, I love the original and I don't think this is an improvement, that distorted guitar/synth/harmonica/whatever the hell it was break in the middle was supremely annoying. Had no idea it was James' kid though, interesting. I'm really digging this version. (pimp)
Sounds like a Genesis cover band picked this tune for a quick spin in order to perform a sound check. Quite difficult to listen to. Ouch.

This was chilling, but a great cover.
The original was already on the creepy side of cradle-robbing ("What's your name? Who's your daddy? ... give it to me easy and let me try with pleasured hands to take you and the sun to promised lands").
This turns up the creepy to 11. Brrrrr!

It's covers like this that confuse me. I understand wanting not to be too faithful, to make the song your own for a bit, but this?

This gets me completely out of the Time of the Season for loving... I do feel a queasiness coming on though.
The key and intonation of him 'singing' lo-o-oving is gut-wrenching in a bad way. And in that first verse I'll add that the vocals brought to mind the incredibly uncomfortable feeling of being approached in an inappropriate manner.
Then we get to the background accompaniment/screeching... I just began to wonder if he was doing a satire.
I'm disappointed. His voice itself is pretty decent and I feel this had more potential. Everything does, I suppose. But this was torture for me to listen to.

Wow, brutal comments. I'm often skeptical of covers but this strikes me as an "accurate" contemporary interpretation of the original in the sense that it if The Zombies had recorded this song today instead of nearly 40 years ago, this is approximately what it would sound like. I'll give this a semi-enthusiastic thumbs-up.
I'm on the YUCK and BLECH side of the fence on this one.

i'm sorry, maybe it's my mood today, and i usually try to be fair even with music i personally don't like, it's all subjective - but this is fucking uninspired garbage.
This has got to be the very worst cover of any song ever produced.... my ears are bleeding... PLEASE, make it stop!

I can't believe someone sat in the recording studio and played with the knobs until that NOISE showed up and then got the votes to keep it in.
Really, really annoying especially considering how much cash has been spent trying to eliminate that type of NOISE ......

So, when I got this CD and heard this song, I just had to upload it. I still prefer the original, but I really do like this interpretation of the song.
I think the itchy little intro noise is cool ... the rest of it's a snooze.

I had to disagree..I found it very mediocre
Every time I hear Ben Taylor, I am struck by how much he sounds like his father. A good thing, imho.

AAAH i heard this on the LRC a long time ago and hoped it would get onto the main stream. i love it. nice cover. i'm usually partial to originals over covers, but i like this way better than the original. call me crazy.
