When asked to leave, it begs to stay
Like the perfect song, at imperfect times
It's the way the chords struck with the rhymes
So let your troubles roll by...
He knows he can help himself
He can tell by a look at the books on his shelf
And someone, somewhere loses her son
Before her own sunset is said and done
And she dreams of sunflowers bent-over
Frozen in snow, and thinks 'Colorado.. ?'
But then plays her life back in slow motion
To keep in touch with that raw emotion
In the night, crushed empty can
Olive Oyle is waiting for her man
To come in from the fight
That will change their life
'For good this time...'
When all of your tears dry, let your troubles roll by
Like New Year's Eve, tonight's underway
But tomorrow you'll wake up afraid of the day
'Cause underneath the scars of your broken dreams
An undone war still wages and stings
You fear the year will blow
Like a breeze through a rainbow
You swear it's there, but you can't grab a hold
So you sit and cry and wonder why, why...
When all of your tears dry, let your troubles roll by
So many cities and windows and lives
And through each one there's a soul that strives to survive
So pay no mind, my sorrow's fine
The day is a live and that's why I cry
It's a New Year's toast, grab your list to conspire
The last snake hissed as he was thrown in the fire
You've come far, and though you're far from the end
You don't mind where you are, cause you know where you've been
Like a culture vulture sprawled out on the floor
Like a dead devil soldier washed up on the shore
With nothing of note but the ole' Capt.'s coat
And a burning boat you just sank with your salty tears...
Carbon Leaf is one of several bands I'd never heard before RP. Their 'The War Was In Color' is powerful songwriting.

I first heard Carbon Leaf here on RP about 10 years ago, I have since seen them so many times we now know each other and they are great guys, so talented and such nice guys.
I, too, discovered Carbon Leaf from RP. It was this song. I still love it years later.
Today, this song is making me cry. In a good way? I don't know.

It's always good. 7 to 8 with tears in my eyes.
Love it; love the sentiment! There's another floor-stompin' live music event tonight up at Gold Hill Inn, ten miles west as the crow flies but existing in another era entirely, and, like last Friday and countless times before, it will surely be legendary. I intend to let my troubles roll by, and dance it all away through yet another magical night...
Had to look up the Gold Hill Inn.
I've taken Lefthand Canyon Rd. and Sugarloaf Rd. before and still had no idea that this place existed.
More than a little off the beaten path. Will have to check it out next time I'm in Colorado.
I've got a 7 rating on this tune.
All of the Cabon Leaf songs that I like sound basically the same.
(I agree with you)

Ok Song, but 12x/month?
Is that your way of constructive feedback to change the playlist? There are better options mate. Just vote it to your liking and skip it. RP will work with THOSE metrics.

I'm in. My bucketlist goal is to party with you and Lazarus. I'm still hoping to get picked up in his spaceship so I can hang out with his group of mushrooming gypsy muleskinners and all. I'm thinking you guys are fun to hang out with!
I thought I was listening to the Decemberists
According to Wikipedia these guys have been active since 1992, maybe the other way around/
I concur. It's got a good beat and I can dance to it.
Pretty awesome all the way around.
Agreed and I got give your comment its 10th upvote so there ya go!
I'm still at an 8 on this...Long Live RP!!
+1 to 9 today...and it's the message more than the song that I like...LLRP !!

You've pinpointed the connection I was trying to figure out. Yes, I bought that Del Amitri album. Thanks for that.

I'm probably seeing them in Bethlehem, PA in March.
A reminder that it all matters in some way and that whatever we do, it's not for nothing.
I can hear that, kind of, but these guys predate The Decemberists by nearly a decade.

Thanks for playing it Bill/RP! :-)

Ok, now it's going from a 6 to a 7. Gets better as it goes.
Wait, you think these vocals sound like Michael Stipe?

well isn't that special (no I mean it! a neat tune : )
I quite agree.
I love the cover art, it'd be a Niner if I could rate it. The tune is a duce but I'll upgrade it to a tre 'cause of the photo.
I love the fact that the vocalist sounds like he believes in the lyrics...he's connected. So many bands these days try, I think, to sound disaffected...which is a terrible trend...
