Now I understand
What it means to give your life
To just one man
Afraid of feeling nothing
No bees or butterflies
My head is full of questions
And my house is full of lies
Chorus:
This is home, home
And this is home, home
This is home
I found you standing there
When I was seventeen
Now I'm thirty-two
And I can't remember what I'd seen in you
I made a promise
Said it everyday
Now I'm reading romance novels
And dreaming of yesterday
Chorus
I'd like to see the Riviera
And slowdance underneath the stars
I'd like to watch the sun come up
In a stranger's arms
Chorus x2
I'm going crazy
A little every day
And everything I wanted
Is now driving me away
I woke this morning
To the sound of breaking hearts
Mine is full of questions
And it's tearing yours apart...
My husband's first partner met him when they were both older teenagers. They were together for 25 years, and she basically just got bored with him and kicked him out. Thank goodness--he's mine now, and there is no one better! And while I haven't gone to the Rivera with him, Portofino was certainly nice.
It amazes me how so many are willing to jump on the "if it weren't for the TNMC" bandwagon. She's taken a career as a background singer and made it her own. Props, eh?
With or without TNMC Sheryl was destined for greatness. TNMC just helped it to happen sooner (like 2 years, at most).
This is just beautiful. I wish more of her material were like this.
She has some great music, and some more poppy music. Her later albums were really too pop/country for me, but the real gem in her catalog is the follow up album to this one, The Globe Sessions. It felt like she was writing without a care about a hit single, and the honesty really came through. I only listen to 1 album as a whole with her, and it is that album.
?? Haters gonna hate.
Indeed they are. That's what they do.

Similar types. LA the liar, cheat, and ego freak. SC probably not far from that.
I do like some of her songs/singing though.

Am I done? :)
I concur...
Perhaps you are a fan.

thanx 4 playing RP

I saw you on my TV taking credit for our work
And I knew if I said anything that I would be the jerk
There's always some ex-boyfriend, some jealous has-been clown
Trying to muscle in the spotlight, trying to keep the lady down
There's this comfortable old story about the man without a clue
Who rises to the top on work some woman had to do
But political correctness won't accept the inverse true
We just can't see the painted toenails on the foot that fits the shoe...
Now THAT is some sour grapes (on both the part of Gilbert and expertTexpert). The taste is decidedly bitter.
TNMC's work would not have gone anywhere without Ms. Crow's involvement. The success of her career following her brief collaboration with TNMC shows that she is no flash-in-the-pan, nor is she a coattail rider.
Maybe some of the songs on the first album were (co)written by them. So why didn't they take legal action (or did they)?
She seems to have done alright without them since then.
Baerwald's Bedtime Stories was a great album, btw.
Gilbert wrote a song about her:

you exaggerate.
I'm pretty sure she wrote it; she doesn't do too many covers — especially back then. Isn't this album earlier than 1998?
Moderate tempo and melodic song that is emotive.
miss you so much, Cynaera...
this song is groovy...
She looks a bit scary in the cover art.
Only if you were the one who just told her you forgot her birthday.

Nice tune, I have always liked her.
yes, she seems like you could have a beer with her and NOT have the urge to chew your own ears off....
i agree
ahhhh— there it is!
never mind

i sure like this song but i'm not sure about the video. Too much of a dichotomy between the "ordinary people" and Crow. most everyone at the fair looked weathered and not very happy and Crow comes along with heavy makeup and looking sultry. it kind of creeped me out..

While I know what you mean, I don't think it has to be a "guilty pleasure" just because an artist is successful. SC has lots of great tunes.
Amen to that. This song makes me want to weep.
Agreed—I lost interest in her later works but when she was this hippy girl who had paid dues she was pretty great—not to mention that she had some pretty good support from artists such as David Baerwald in the beginning. Listening with headphones you can really appreciate the backing she had then. Unfortunately I think she burnt some bridges and lost herself while climbing the ladder to success.
And, I think we Sheryl fans maybe might be wearing him down :) - he recently added "Every Day Is A Winding Road" to the playlist. (Yay!)
I totally agree!
If it make you happy, it can't be that bad?
How can you possibly compare Sheryl Crow and Joni Mitchell? Too much of a stretch for me ...
Why is that a stretch? I'd agree that Crow does not yet have the body of work of Mitchell. But in the days of Court & Spark, Mitchell was a simple folk singer trying for commercial pop success. Not much different for Crow at this point, imo.
This song is groovy...
Just for fun I did a search for groovy and came up with this:
Groovy is an object-oriented programming language for the Java Platform
Who Knew?
Agreed. There's a noticeable maturity in this work. Perhaps she might be doing so gracefully in the same light as Joni Mitchell. People deserve a chance to grow from within. I certainly don't agree with her views on streaming media royalty rates that would mean the end of RP, but good work is good work and it was noble of RP to give her airplay.

Jazbo, How do you know that Ms. Crow didn't push every many she was "in love with" out the door?
Nice song all the same.
my girlfiend hates her and says " that once again in the world of arts , it's not what you know , it's who you know ,, no talent required"
Did she know someone to get her big break or what ? anybody know?
And alot of her music.
Or on your way to the office in a half crowded bus on a dim, slightly rainy November morning.
On the video she is looking the hottest ever.
I appreciate this sentiment. However, this is from her (most excellent) second album.
That won't be hard to do, her music is marginal at best. I am not surprise that she doesn't like
internet/independent radio. As talentless as she is, her career would suffer if there more independent radio stations.
Interesting point. Did not know this. She does cater to commercial radio, to be sure.
Sheryl was willing to tackle issues in a not so pop friendly way in this album. Still had some passion underlying the message in her words.
Yes, indeed. All's changed, sadly. She lost her edge. But I would like to hear more of her from the 1st 3 CD's, as a previous post mentioned.
SHE IS IN FAVOR OF THE NEW ROYALTY RATES THAT WOULD END INTERNET RADIO!!!
BOYCOTT SHERYL CROW!!!

Never heard this one on the radio
I really, really wish Bill would play more from her great first 3 albums.
