I will light a match this morning so I won't be alone.
Watch as she lies silent for soon light will be gone.
Oh, I will stand arms outstretched, pretend I'm free to roam.
Oh, I will make my way through one more day in Hell.

How much difference does it make?
How much difference does it make?

I will hold the candle until it burns up my arm.
Oh, I'll keep taking punches until their will grows tired.
Oh, I will stare the sun down until my eyes go blind.
Hey, I won't change direction and I won't change my mind.

How much difference does it make?
How much difference does it make?

I'll swallow poison until I grow immune.
I will scream my lungs out till it fills this room.

How much difference?
How much difference?
How much difference does it make?
How much difference does it make?

If you can't feel some modicum of identity with these lyrics, then you aren't disgustingly human.
What a powerful song. This one stopped me dead in my tracks. Amazing!
Just brilliant

Another classic track back in the rotation on RP thankfully.
Great album! They took a new turn in this one.
This is a cheerful little tune🤗

I'm definitely coming from the other side of this. Vs. is so raw in power, yet so polished at times (this gem!), but the range of emotions and musical loudness (in a good way) is never as big as on this album, it seems to me.
As a dabbling musician I can't but marvel at the innate brilliance that this band displays in this early album, away from that early label they got, onto  the rainbow road of rock'n roll history.
That voice, those lyrics, all the stuff that ISN'T played in this song... incredible.

That said, Elderly Woman remains possibly my nr.1 PJ track of all times...

I love Pearl Jam and i love Radio Paradise. My day is colorful.

I came here thinking to myself, "if you didn't rate this at least a 9 or 10 in the past, then you are a certified A-hole!

Sure enough, my brain didn't let me down.....a perfect 10.  {#Cowboy}
The last hour has been Great! Good job Bill.

Umm.  This is early PJ.  Second album.

Regardless, yes, great cut.
I'm not usually much of a Pearl Jam fan but I really like this song! (I am not a big fan, but I admire PJ as a band and as a phenom. They have a huge fan base and 20+ years of work. What sounds good to me does not define a damn thing, and the fact that Bill thinks this makes the cut speaks volumes)

I used to feel the exact same way about the boys. However, with the release of Backspacer, and the obvious attempt to appeal to the masses (even though it meant compromising the quality of the music with the exception of a few tracks), not to mention the fact they just doubled the cost of their fanclub membership, I have been having serious doubts whether the original integrity they once had is still there and active. Seems I detect more than just a tad of selling out a little, as well as a touch of the green disease, unfortunately. (and this is from a long-time fan.) {#Sad}

Nice song, but this is my least favourite Pearl Jam album.

  Love this song.  But, if I had to choose between the two, I'd take Tori, and let Eddie go down with the ship.  Funny, them opinions don't always match...

This album rocked my world when I was in High School, but this is probably the only song off of it that has held up for me despite the years.  Recognized it from the opening noise.

Interesting.

I have been listening to Neil Young's music and songs close to 4 decades now and rarely see him on television.

I bump into David Foster regularly on television but never listen to his music (unless thrust upon me in the background).

All these lame comments previously about pitch and style.  This is a first listen for me - the man sings from the depths.  Passionate, pure.  It's art.  Criticize all you want.  He's an artist and I'm sure he doesn't give a rat's ass what you think.  Or me, for that matter.  I'm glad I got to hear this, that's all.
{#Undecided} a lack of interest or concern somehow, as if I have little or no concern {#Think}

Too much PJ.  We just heard Black within the last 5 hours.
Is this Randy Jackson?  Paula loves the emotion and thinks these guys are going to make it big some day but Simon says they're just a Carnivale Cruise act

Especially by David Freakin' Foster. Go make some more pap Dave--and let your millions continue to delude you into thinking you are an important musical figure.

We'll wait here while you come up with a valid reason why everything and everyone needs to be "in tune". Some great art is great simply because it isn't "in tune" with generally accepted standards. Like this.

This comment has two fatal flaws: 1) it failed at its attempt to be funny and 2) its just not true - PJ is aging like a good bottle of wine
They are a chipper beat combo, hurrah!
PJ's problem is trying to live up to Ten --- a classic from beginning to end. They've never come anywhere near that since but Eddie Vedder possesses one of the great voices in music and they still pull off an occasional good tune like this one.
