Say what you want and leave your shyness home
Do what you want and write a little poem
Leave it for her and live another day
Leave it for her, the girl around the way

Write down a list of things you want to do
Leave it in work because you've got to live a little
Pick up the girl in someone's borrowed Mini
Take her to dinner, use her boyfriend's money

Listen lady, put your phone down
Cancel all operations
Tell your friends to cool it
Your cover's blown
I want to see you alone
Cancel all operations
Tell your friends to cool it
Your cover's blown

Planning a break is such a tricky thing
Because you move to the country, she comes back again
And then you move to the city but she goes abroad
Is she telling you something, is she getting bored?

I'll make a rough plan to sleep around, I'm in a rut
I need a change, I'm a lazy rat if I am honest
My bold change of tact will fade out with the summer
I've got no appetite and all the girls are bummers

My baby doesn't look at me
The way I want her to
She doesn't comprend

My baby's got it going on
She's got a friend hid in every street in this town
I want to go out but there's nobody home
I'll go on my own

Thus starts the lonely walking
There's always too much talking
I should have stayed home
She starts her cool caressing
The kid, she starts undressing in front of me
I should've stayed home
The DJ's picking up speed
That's something I just don't need
I should've stayed home
The gossip's bearing down on me
The kids are pairing off in front of me
I should've stayed home
I should've stayed home
I think I'll go home

Hey lady, put your phone down
Cancel all operations
Tell your friends to cool it
Because your cover's blown
I want to see you alone
Cancel all operations
Tell your friends to cool it

Hey lady, meet my mum and dad
You're a strange aberration
In this land of potted plants and box-like houses
Where the girls like mouses
Breathe a long sigh of resignation
You resign yourself to keep on growing
All the seeds you're sowing
You're a strange apparition
In this land of grammar schools and gala days
The ladies set in their ways
You had a long conversation
With the kid next door
Who's a little slow
But in your favour, it shows
Cancel all operations
Tell your friends to move out to the sticks

Listen lady, leave the phone down
Cancel all operations
Tell your friends there's more to you than this

Bumped my 8 to a 9 to prop your vote up, mate. Maybe it'll attract a few more 9s.
reminds me of 10cc
Liked that one.
Definitely not B&S's best tune... What else ya' got over there by them Bill?
Pretentious disco?
What an annoying song. To me.
Groovy.
I went to see B&S at Merriweather Post Pavilion a month or two ago with my girlfriend who didn't know their music at all. I wasn't sure how their music would translate to a big open venue like that, but figured it was worth seeing them since their tours are rare. I was shocked at how EXCELLENT the show was, as the huge ensemble rocked out (no, seriously) and Stuart Murdoch had a great time interacting with the crowd. What a party. Even the GF loved it. Who'd have known?
This reminds me a LOT of boomtown rats.
Everyone in the Line at Space Mountain loves this song!

Much better B&S sings to be had...

Big fan of B&S, but this isn't my favourite...

Ditto to the above... plus is it just me or is there a Doobie Brothers rif at the beginning...how dare they{#Eh}

I would be so happy if I never heard this again.  Really bad.

Minor seventh chords have been around for hundreds of years, and that strumming style precedes The Doobie Bros.  However, this tune seems to have quite a few influences going on and it wouldn't be surprising if that tune were among them.
that pause towards the end, with the bass and heavy rhythm guitar...always remind of a talking heads tune, "Stay Hungry"?
once of the best dance songs of all time - can't believe this isn't rated higher. makes me dream about the B&S disco album that will never happen.

This tune always grabs me. I really like B&S's often quirky but original stuff but this is some of their best.
So far, this is my favourite Belle & Sebastian song.  Retro, yes, but a fun groove.

Hit and miss band with me; survey says........hit!! 8

Truly obnoxious.
I don't really like Belle & Sebastian, but this song's a lot of fun! {#Music}
I love B&S; how have I never heard this song?  My loss...

Song gets a 7 but I'm bumping it to an 8 for the girl's look on the cover
I agree jagdriver... They should've stayed home.
I always love B&S, particularly when they are happy! :)
What can I say... when the tempo slows down, I've got to turn the volume up loud and grove along...
SO GOOD! I FREAKING LOVE THESE GUYS!

That there IS no meaning has DEEP meaning (for me, anyway).

I've said this before, but it get's me every time.  The begining of this makes me think Michael Jackson - Billy Jean's Not My Lover.
Is this Camp? I kind of like it...

I actually like this one; I like the chorus. This is one of those major hit and miss bands; though mostly they miss. Most of the time they just sound soooooooo wimpy I can' t take it, but every now and then they really hit ala boy with the arab strap and catastrophe waitress and a few others.

No, that would be "Step Into My Office, Baby".

PS does anyone else think that Carrey looks like Bruce Campbell, in this clip?

This is the first Belle and Sebastian song I ever heard, and I kind of wish all their other songs sounded more like this. It's like some kind of twee English Steely Dan.
I think this was the product of one of the band members losing a bar bet.

This sounds nothing like Belle & Sebastian.  I think there is an error or something.  This is Maroon 5.

Let me join you in putting our {#Moon} together to mock the naysayers. This song rocks.

Thanks for having ears like mine!

That's a 10-4. I liked it until they added the bass synth (Bee Gees, anyone) then ruined it further with the change up. Maybe get a WAV file and edit it, then it'd be pretty good.

I love this song!!! It's makes me want to shake my 'okole!! {#Moon}
{#Dancingbanana}{#Drummer}{#Dancingbanana_2}{#Bananajam}

This is the first thing I've heard by these guys that I haven't completely loathed .... their standard wimpiness is there in abundance, but at one point I'm pretty sure I heard a groove ...

I can't get into them. I've tried, but I can't see it.
HEY! A Belle &Sebastian song that doesn't sound exactly like The Beautiful South! Now, that's novel.
This is really empty. The closer you listen, the less you find.
Awesome
GOOD SONG!!!
This seems to be quite different than most of their stuff - much more upbeat - I like!!

I tink this song is kind of cool. unpretentious, fun, and interesting lyrics. couldnt listen for too long though.

Aptly describes (in part) why this track works so well; it's the tuneful equivalent of a late 70s/early 80s drive-in exploitation flick, albeit a more ambitious one. A bona-fide bit of retro-sounding guilty pleasure.
I bought one of their CD's, which did not impress me, but this song is groovy.
At first I thought I was listening to a lost track from Love's Forever Changes.

Wha? No way. Must be the copy of Avalon you just ate. Because it certainly is not these cretins, they sound cheap and sleazy.
What's with the "dark mood" at RP <"RadioHell"?>today? I hate this song!

why do they always play these three songs in a row?
... Why do I like this so much? I honestly can't say. So, for now, it gets a good rating, but I have a feeling that in a couple of months I'll look back on this song and wonder why I liked it now.
My only previous exposure to Belle and Sebastian is that they play "sad bastard music". However, this seems pretty poppy for sad bastards.
... just heard Belle and Sebastian sing For the Price of a Cup of Tea from The Life Pursuit album on LRC until it buffered so bad I came on over to Mains and here they are singin' Your Cover's Blown That's Serendipity in action! I really like their quirky sound an' lyrics an' harmonies
