Louise only got from me innocent poetry
Although she played to not listen
But still I can hear myself speak as if no one else
Ever could offer the same
Some say she knowingly tasts like a recipe
Although so foolish and willing
I said Babe I can picture you bend as if wanting to
Bow as the curtain goes down
Coddle some men, they'll remember you bitterly
Fuck 'em, they'll come back for more
I asked my Louise would she leave and so cripple me
Then came a knock at the door
"I came for my woman", he came with a razor blade
Bound like us all for the ocean
I hope that she's happy I'm blamed for the death of
A man who would take her from me
Some they saw in me innocent poetry
Some, some say they'll never be certain
But still it's been written, a history of lovers
Given and taken in ink
Coddle some men, they'll remember you fittingly
Cut 'em, they'll come back for more
I asked my Louise would she leave and so cripple me
Then came the knock at the door
Louise came to rescue me, missing the irony
Blood made her heart change its beating
I hope that she's happy I'm blamed for the death of
The man she found better than me
Although she played to not listen
But still I can hear myself speak as if no one else
Ever could offer the same
Some say she knowingly tasts like a recipe
Although so foolish and willing
I said Babe I can picture you bend as if wanting to

well yeah, with Calexico
Five little speckled frogs,
Sat on a speckled log,
Eating some most delicious bugs.
Yum yum!
One jumped into the pool,
Where it was nice and cool,
Then there were four speckled frogs.
Glub glub!

One of those songs with sunny-day music and upside dark down lyrics.
I think I'm in love.
Nuts about this song. Great ballad of sex and violence.
Love the album artwork.
7. +1 for the album art...
Lovin' it, given my frame of mind.
Love this music and Cover Art!!

Sam Beam aka Iron & Wine performing at the 2009 Ottawa Bluesfest
The best song of Iron & Wine!

I'm not sure that commenting at this juncture is even worth the effort...but, Sam Beam (Iron & Wine) makes some of the most lyrically challenging music around these days. My criticism of his early output boiled down to "get a proper band that can do the music justice." He did with Calexico, IMHO, a band that could make almost anyone sound very, very good. In this instance the (rather short) album is sublime. I think Beam needed a couple of very sympathetic guys like Burns and Convertino at this juncture in his career, and they made him soar.

Great, nice start at RP this sunday morning.
What a great meeting of disparate minds! A wonderful collaboration exactly in the way that Mick Jagger and David Bowie weren't.

Oh yes!
The vocals at times remind me of Dan Fogelberg around 1977.
love iron & wine

love this song!
love calexico
love this song!
the sum is less than the parts; this sounds like old George Harrison solo stuff, but not as good
Love this ep! What a great combination
I don't care, say what you will - this song just makes me happy. Reminds me of Vic Chesnutt's Until the Led, another great song. I guess the horns got me.
How can you not do the sultry booty shake to this?
Love Calexico.

ADORE the horns; especially that honkin' bari sax!
I like the music, especially the subtle lap steel guitar back in the mix but the vocals don't work for me

genius. counting the days till we go to see I&W perform in a church! Tick tock tick tock...

Reminds me of Belle & Sebastian in that way. Oh, and musically, too.
One of my favorite I&W songs ever.
This has been an exteremely pleasant 20 minutes or so. Incredible Les McCann & Eddie Harris? Unstopable.
sounds very Jimmy Buffetish, doesn't it?
I like this. Anyone know the lyrics? Google has failed me once more.

Amen, Brotha...or Sista
I was just walking upstairs--from watching the Tribe and Bosox on ESPN2--playing this one in my head, and what do you know...I love Radio Paradise. I also love this album.
There are a number of negative comments here, and yet the song has easily met the "threshold" number of 7, indicating an excellent and well-accepted song. I gave it a 9 and have it on my Ipod 4ever. Good stuff. Stop being so negavitely vocal, you minority I&W&Calexico peeps.

I agree. But i hear them more than once a day, which drives me nuts.

Even CD101? That's the only station I can stomach in this city and I think they're really good. (But I hear ya and totally agree on the nightlife.)
When I'm in my car, I mostly listen to CD101 or WCBE. The rest of my presets are ignored, for the most part.

Always liked Calexico and this is a great tune, but the rest of the album is sort of a yawner.
OK, this clearly is not Buck Owens either.

Yup. I was just about to post that this song sounds sort of like the Travelin' Wilburys when I scrolled down and saw your post.

That's funny, I would have never heard of Calexico if it hadn't been for KGSR in Austin.

A song that sounds like a triumph and the brass is a big part of that.
Yeah, I've got this down as an 8 and have had this since I first heard it. Fantastic tune.

As of today, it's sitting at 7.3, so I don't think I was that far off after all. Now that I've heard it some more, I think 7 is probably about right.
But "at least an eight or nine"? In other words, a 10? I think that's a bit much for this one.
Just upped this to a 10! That's right. It's that good in my book. This collaboration is tops for me! I'm going to see them this weekend in Chicago and know from other posts that the show will be nothing less than spectacular!
I'm so damn about the lyrics... ... blessed, or cursed?
I like, I like, I like. I love stories, baby.

The addition of Calexico has really bumped this guy's stuff up a notch or two. Scrapes off a little of the sad bastard motif.
Downloaded from emusic recently. Short but very good. An excellent collaboration.
Excellent - Cheered up my afternoon no end!
Very good all the EP

I saw Iron & Wine and Calexico in Seattle about a week ago--WOW. If you ever get a chance to see either/both of them, DO IT. They were phenomenal. The two trumpets are a very cool addition to the slide guitar (or vice versa). And, harkening back to a certain, legendary SF band of (sadly) yesteryear, two drum sets! This album, while great, does not do their live set justice. Thanks to Bill and whoever uploaded this!
Ditto! Awesome concert in Denver....by both bands. First, Calexico played 45 minutes...then Iron and Wine about an hour...then Calexico came back out and they played another hour....best $20 I've spent in months! For live gigs of both these bands (but not together....yet), go to https://www.livebonnaroo.com/frameset.asp?downloads
and scroll down to download the concerts...for $10 i think. Can't wait to see them again!
and yes........
I saw their LA-Wiltern show a few weeks back. I see Calexico everytime they're in town, but this was one of the best shows I've seen in MANY years (of any band). I should move to Arizona.

In that case, I'll do so when they're in Boston next month-- thanks for the tip!
Gets on my nerves......bleech
