Better parted
I see people crying
Truth gets harder
There's no sense in lying
Help me find a way from this maze
I can't help myself

When I see tenderness before you left
That even breaking up was never meant
But only angels look before they tread

Better parted
I see people hiding
Speech gets started
There's no sense in writing
Help me find a way through this maze
I'm living,in another world with you
And I can't help myself
Did I see tenderness where you saw hell
Did I see angels in the hand I held
God only know's what kind of tale you'd tell

I love this band, and Mark Hollis was so creative...and authentic.

One of  the good things about YouTube is that we all get easy access to the  great acts from the past.  Some of the concert footage of Talk Talk is astonishingly good, and captures their energy...and Mark Hollis' stage presence.

I saw Talk Talk supporting the '6 of the Best' one-off Genesis reunion outdoor gig.  They received a hostile reception because they were in the way of the main act.  Oh, the value of hindsight.

weirdly I remember this being my soundtrack to Christmas 1985. Played the album from a tape I bought (probably from Woolies) so release must have been earlier for UK. Never tire of the album. Gawd knows how many copies I've bought. Tape, CD.

I just had to bump this from an 8 to a 10. Something to do with the lockdown zoom calls to old friends from the 70's, Elton's "I've Seen That Movie Too" played earlier and now this.

I'm not sure whether the music has to be perfect, but the memories a good tune can invoke has to be one of the most powerful forces on earth.

Well played Bill - my sanity thanks you

this sound soooo organic somehow - so perfect.

the percussion with a such joyious organ (steve winwood) great guitars, a killer bassline, an emotional harmonica and an unique voice to top it off.

a showcase of how good music can be...

One of the few bands I can think of that showed real progression and growth from album to album. They started out as synth-pop proto-Duran Duran types, went to a more rock/pop position and then to blues/jazz rock/pop by this album. And then they headed off into relatively uncharted territory with their final two albums, more of a jazzy avant-garde freeform musical style. Sublime.

Little wonder their record company didn't know how to market them I guess.

From my purely selfish standpoint it's a crying shame that Mark Hollis retired from the music industry because I'd so love to hear what would have come next. And yes, I know he put out one solo album, which is fantastic, but that was 19 years ago :(

But a great musical legacy nonetheless.

It's 8:30 on a cool morning in England.  I'm in bed recovering from an operation and turned on Radio Paradise for the first time in weeks, to be greeted by this fabulous track.  I happened to click on the album cover by mistake and it brought up Coloradjohn's comment from November last year, which greatly amused me and made me feel good, as does the music.  I know some of Talk Talk's music but have never thought to investigate their albums - that is now a priority.  Great arrangement, terrific vocals, a fabulous reminder of the 80s at their best (not forgetting there were some dire moments, too!).  Congratulations to Talk Talk on producing truly excellent music, which willl last and last; and to Radio Paradise for playing it.....and for the Bird York track which followed Talk Talk and which is playing as I write this - totally new to me but another one to explore.  Medical operation or not......like Coloradojohn, I'm feeling good  :- )
