Perfect, coming in a set not long after Jethro Tull's magical, "Up to Me" -- and it reminds me just how sensual, how enchanting, how trippy the flute can be!

I agree, the flute can make such haunting, sensual sounds.
Such a cool track. Never gets old.

This was someone else's review: A hidden gem of the world of psychedelia I stumbled upon this CD purely by accident. Listened to it a few times and thought, well, this is interesting, but it wasnt until I slapped it on during a particularly fierce mushroom trip that I really GOT it. I have a good older audiophile quality system, and in a dark room with the volume plentiful, I moved around INSIDE of the music on this album, and was awestruck. It is fully obvious to me that this album was crafted specifically to lead one through a trip, with tension and release, fear and comforting, sadness and resolution, in waves coming with the different songs. Absolutely a masterpiece when viewed in this light, and heartily recommended for that special experience. These guys knew what they were doing, and did it well. Check it out under psychedelic influence, and see if you dont agree. Masterful, touching, beautiful, and intense. Happy trails!

Happy trails, indeed! ; )
Interesting music.
Iconic 1999 - 2004 Swanky Cocktail Lounge background music...!!
I love the kind of music that keeps reminding me of Anne Dudley.

It is funny to come to this while I was calculating "pressure drops" for work :D

...indeed!
this has a little Massive Attack vibe to it.  I like it.
Thought this was Shpongle huh
Nice flute? intro
Dubby vibe
Easy 9
Peace and LOVE!
with a few more strange sounds and some obscure lyrics this could be a Shpongle tune.
This doesn't sound anything like Toots and the Maytals
Here's to you, Slope  , I find you quite an interesting person too.  I can tell we'd get along well.  westslope wrote:

Total agreement here, CoJo - hell I'll go 7→8 now...and hopefully BillG will play this again when I'm not at work (i.e. after an attitude/altitude adjustment, eh?)
Ah Ah Ee Ee Tookie Tookie!

I rated this one a 6 originally, and hearing it again, I realize why I don't have it at 7 or higher....a bit repetitive until the jungle safarai and flute section chimes in...oh heck, I really like it...i'll go to a 7 on this one.
My next question is: where does BillG find all this great old and new music?!?
Café del Mar, yeah!
Voop voop! A-kooka choop  : )    sweet
Yep. At this time.
yes except the tables are walzing with the chairs and the colors are simply amazing on 'this floor'..brianlj wrote:

This really improves the afternoon groove at my desk. I hear things on RP that not even my fave college radio station plays. Good stuff. {#Smile}

Can I just add that the Supperclub used to be a fine eating/playing establishment. Mrs Poacher took me there when we were courting for a very memorable evening in Amsterdam quite a few years ago. Anyone who has been there will know how excellent a place it was in its early days.

This follows David Bowie's Blackstar well.

Actually there was quite a lot of chill that came out in 1998 — about the start of the genre, I would say (although Wikipedia is stating early to mid-90's).  The first Cafe Del Mar collection was released in 1999.  Other compilations albums (Buddha Bar, Hotel Costes, and just about anything with Ibiza in the title) began coming out in 2002-2003.  The various artists on these compilations were mostly recorded a few years prior.  If you'd like to explore more of this kind of music, sample these compilations — there is a wealth of artists to discover!

The first Buddha Bar double cd was released in 1999, and subsequent releases have followed at the rate of one per year since 2000. I have enjoyed them all, but in my opinion the original has never been bettered.

Also, don't forget predecessors such as Enigma. The beat here is nearly identical to a track of theirs from 1994.

These guys were probably influenced by Enigma, but this "beat" or rhythm track was more likely borrowed from or flavored by some "exotica" tune by Martin Denny or Les Baxter, from the 1950s.  Nice groove.

Wow - this was (slightly) ahead of the curve if it came out in 1998, at least in the downtempo/chill world.  Nice tune.

This song is hot!
Exotic, sensual, romantic.
Cool track. The Amazon reviews (what few there are) are mixed- a couple people's favorite album, especially in the UK; someone else thought the tunes with vocals were diva-esque and over the top. Anyone else heard the whole album?
Sounds great on headphones!
