I met her in a club down in old Soho
Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like Coca-Cola
C O L A cola
She walked up to me and she asked me to dance
I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said Lola
L O L A Lola la-la-la-la Lola
Well I'm not the world's most physical guy
But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine
Oh my Lola la-la-la-la Lola
Well I'm not dumb but I can't understand
Why she walked like a woman and talked like a man
Oh my Lola la-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola
Well we drank champagne and danced all night
Under electric candlelight
She picked me up and sat me on her knee
And said little boy won't you come home with me
Well I'm not the world's most passionate guy
But when I looked in her eyes well I almost fell for my Lola
La-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola
Lola la-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola
I pushed her away
I walked to the door
I fell to the floor
I got down on my knees
Then I looked at her and she at me
Well that's the way that I want it to stay
And I always want it to be that way for my Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
Girls will be boys and boys will be girls
It's a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
Well I left home just a week before
And I'd never ever kissed a woman before
But Lola smiled and took me by the hand
And said dear boy I'm gonna make you a man
Well I'm not the world's most masculine man
But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man
And so is Lola
La-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola
Lola la-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola
Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like Coca-Cola

So far ahead of LBGTQI+. (Or at least that’s how many letters there were in early 2024. More will be added, I’m sure)

OhmiLord! That's crazy! t's a shame you didn't cotton on sooner: the song could have helped you through tough times.
Hey, glad you get to be who you want to be. That's a big deal for me. Shine on!
I came out 25 years ago, desperately grateful for anything that said I’m not alone. Pride stickers, etc. I never read the lyrics for this until today. I had no idea.

Very clever lyrics. Ray Davies at his best. It was very daring when first released and has never dated. Solid 10.

No doubt 'bout it, that was an unexpectedly ball'zy song for the '70's.
Kudos to the Kinks, You Really Got Me with that one.

I noticed that the announcer mentioned that this was done in 1967 and that is what it says on the details but I was in the UK and Spain in 1970 and this song had just been released and was all over the place. I just checked Wikipedia and they agree with what I thought.

Every time I hear this song I wish that Bill would play more Weird Al Yankovic. The "Yoda" version is awesome.
Named my Grand Cherokee Lola because of this song. So pretty on the outside but loves to run at 80 mph on the interstate and over the rough stuff when off.

Too Funny!!
Had a roommate decades ago who loved this song, and when I explained that Lola was a dude, he simply refused to accept it. Always gives me a chuckle whenever I hear this tune.

Ray Davies at his cynical peak love it
As a gay-positive straight guy, I'm still grinning at how those tough-guy-stoners from high school failed to notice that Lola was a man.... I love this song for more than just that, of course.
My first 45.
The original! The BBC made The Kinks change the words "Coca-Cola" because it did not allow songs with commercial endorsements.
Goes waaaay back to summer of '67. Came back to California for my first visit after a move to Texas in '65. Summer of Love it was.....GREAT TUNE, GREAT LYRICS, GREAT MEMORIES!
