Dunno your source but wikipedia disagrees: "The name "Duhks" comes from Scruj MacDuhk, Podolak's defunct previous band." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Duhks
Sweet track - as a banjo player, I get a little sick of the bad rap the instrument gets. Funny to a point, but also nice to see it celebrated.
Just a heads up that the name would be pronounced "The Dooks" (not Ducks), referring to Dukhobors, a pacifist religious group that fled Russia. A lot of them live in the western Canadian prairies now, along with Mennonites and Hudderites (who still face a lot of black humour and ridicule - much like the banjo).

Interesting track. So Nick Drake borrowed from a banjo picking style. Live and learn.

Scruj Mcduhk was formed in the mid-90's.
Sounds very similar to Baskery, 3 beautiful Swedish women.

Yahoo! Glad to hear The Duhks on RP. Saw them in 2012 at a small music festival in NC (Pittsboro) area and they killed it. Such fun and keep them spinning.
Instantly added it to my Spotify-running playlist. This will get me going. Thanks again RP.

Very likeable, with a similar sound of Fleekwood Mac

Reminds me much of Adele's Rolling in the Deep..
Your next door alien might belong to Duhks.

Let me tempt you strangely...love the tiny one in the bottom right corner.
Apparently you have company in your obsession, averybadcat: that photo was taken from "One Thousand and One Banjos" by Akira Tsumura . The 904-page book has about 3000 photos. Sadly, only 2500 copies of the book were printed and fellow banjophiles have pushed the cost of a copy up to around $2100.
Do you play the banjo? Do you have a posse like this?

even though it leads off with this Mark Twain snap:

i definitely like these guys. but the slide show accompanying this song, with the array of banjos propped up upon banjos and the wall of mandolins, fiddles, etc., is practically pornographic! for me. not literally of course, but in its excess...what a breathtaking turn-on to see them all. oh lord just let me win the lotto one time, and turn me loose in a music store like that.

Which is what makes the original comment humorous. Of course, it's not funny anymore when you have to explain it.

EDIT/outtake: I deleted the reply I originally made here because I was an asshole when I said it. Sincere apologies to rosanne and lucinda, because you truly are beautiful, and I was just having some kind of fool, envious idiot day.

Grammarcop are you in Windsor then? I enjoyed some good food at ribfest when I visited there last year.
No, I'm trapped on an "island" between Detroit and Lake St. Clair. I used to go to Windsor much more often. It was a tradition to go to the Tunnel Barbecue on the last day of class when I was in high school. I made a few more trips when the drinking age was 21 in Michigan and only 19 in Ontario. And I used to go over just to watch the bed races on Ouellette Avenue on Canada Day. (What a hoot!) Many of those little forays ended when I started having kids. I still go curling at Roseland, though.
Hey, what do you know? Ribfest 2014 is this weekend. Thanks for the tip! (Not to be confused with barbecued tips, which are difficult to send, even by broadband.)
Best wishes.

These guys are from Winnipeg, eh? I used to hang out there many years ago. I remember having breakfast at a place called the Copper Penny. At the bottom of the menu, in agate type, it read: "Good food takes time to prepare. Yours will be ready in a minute."
