Sun is shinin' in the sky,
There ain't a cloud in sight
It's stopped rainin'
Everybody's in a play
And don't you know,
It's a beautiful new day
Runnin' down the avenue,
See how the sun shines brightly
In the city on the streets
Where once was pity,
Mr. Blue Sky is living here today
Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why,
You had to hide away
For so long (so long)
Where did we go wrong?
Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why,
You had to hide away
For so long (so long)
Where did we go wrong?
Hey you with the pretty face,
Welcome to the human race
A celebration Mr. Blue Sky's
Up there waitin' and today
Is the day we've waited for
Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why,
You had to hide away
For so long (so long)
Where did we go wrong?
Hey there Mr. Blue,
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do,
Everybody smiles at you
Hey there, Mr. Blue,
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do,
Everybody smiles at you
Mr. Blue Sky, Mr. Blue Sky, Mr. Blue Sky
Mr. Blue you did it right,
But soon comes Mr. Night,
Creepin' over, now his
Hand is on your shoulder,
Never mind I'll remember you this, I'll remember you this way
Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why,
You had to hide away
For so long (so long)
Where did we go wrong?
Hey there Mr. Blue (Sky),
We're so pleased to be with you (Sky)
Look around see what you do (Blue),
Everybody smiles at you
Please turn me over
There's wrong. Then there's very wrong. Then there's ginormously wrong.
Then there's you.
Maybe it's an English thing. Don't you remember Sparky's Magic Piano? Childhood memories? Happy days? Nope? Must be me then
O M G I had COMPLETELY forgotten about Sparky's Magic Piano. Thanks for that memory - I think
It almost sounds like they deliberately set off to record a terrible song.
C'mon. No band would make a song this cliche. This schlocky. This over done. Over produced.
And ya wonder what the Sex Pistols were rebelling against? Give me Anarchy in the UK!!!
Not one for an eclectic range of musical tastes then.
Anarchy!
Anarchy!

I'm afraid I can't past that daft voice effect he insists on using. I know I should ignore it and listen to the rest but I just can't.....!

i own this record...hahaha
We probably ALL should.
Hard Sun - Eddie Vedder
Rain in the Summertime - The Alarm
Mr Blue Sky - Electric Light Orchestra
Pretty much sums up the weather this weird and scary summer of 2022.
This sounds like a rip off of one of those McCartney 'Granny' songs that Lennon and the others hated.
Got it all figured out, eh? Go outside and get some fresh air!
I know we get used to them, they are so overplayed - but back then - they were super fresh :)
I rarely ever state this: THIS SONG REALLY SUCKS!
STOP IT!
This is why punk started.
Mr Idiot, tell me how much punk is played today?
The cover art makes me think of the old vintage top toys with the handle you'd push down... if you've never seen one that probably doesn't make sense, but Google "ohio art space top" you'll see.
The history of American one-hit-wonders. Thank you Hollywood.
First of all, ELO were British, not American, and they had over twenty Top 40 hits.
STOP IT!
This is why RP started.

I like "Please turn me over", lol.
Welcome to the human race
Toujours aussi bon à écouter. Le meilleurs album de ELO ! 10/10 à tout l'album.
Tellement d'accord ! même si Jeff Lynne n'a produit que des chefs d'œuvre.
So many riffs/sounds ripped from The Beatles
And for me, in this song, is a GOOD thing :-)

Sigh...

Good bubblegum.
The band might have been almost bearable with a decent drummer, but Bev Bevan was a dull plodder and this music is just dull and plodding, despite the best efforts of the rest of the band.
Now I'm waiting for bell bottom hip-hugging jeans to come back into vogue.
Nah. This always reminds me of the Love & Monsters episode of Doctor Who.

Please turn me over
Was this a directive for vinyl listeners? It makes no sense in the context of the lyrics.
I remember James Gang 'Yer Album' had 'Turn me Over' and 'Play me Again' recorded on the run out grooves on the vinyl. Had to have a manual turntable .
Same here. Giving this a 10 mostly because of how badly I needed it today.
How I miss it so.
Please turn me over

Exactly. By the end of the first side many stoners would need help understanding why the music stopped.
My local college station uses that line every Friday night at 8 pm when they play the "Classic Rock Album of the Week".
Best film intro ever!!!
Please turn me over

well - if you copy - then copy from the best - and it will be excellent

According to Jeff Lynne, that's exactly what it was:

Like Cmdr. Data on Star Trek, Groot doesn't use contractions.
He says, "I am Groot."
I remember them being criticized for their "Out of the Blue - Live at Wembley" concert film because they had dubbed the studio recordings over the live recording for the video releases, which made it appear lip-synced. As far as I remember, they used some pre-recorded stuff in their keyboards and synthesizers, but all played their instruments during concerts.
That explains much.
Everybody needs a little cutsie wootsie now and then.

Expect the Electric Light Orchestra "revival" to continue into the 2nd half of 2017 following their induction into the R&R Hall of Fame.
Why so serious?
comin' up quick!
Todd Rundgren did that early on in his career and was criticized for it, even thought the tape he was singing to was of him playing all the instruments.
He is doing something similar on his current tour.
I must say though, that after seeing Jeff Lynne's terrific London concert on TV, I have a new appreciation for ELO. A tonic for the waves of utterly bland music churned out in the last 15 years.
I believe it is about getting your feet under you after coming out of a bad relationship. Hence the album title "Out of the Blue."
i love ELO.
