I feel your love
I feel time is up
When I was a child, I never knew enough
What'd that do to me?
The wave of love is a transient hunt
Water's the shell and we are the nut
But I saw a hand arch out of the barrel

Look at all the peaches
How do you celebrate?
Can't appear inside of nowhere

It's already dead
I know you have the dove
I'm not getting wet
Looks like a date is set
Show the ferret to the egg
I'm not getting led along

I rushed in to hold down your page
And now I sleep 'side words you do not read with me
I hear a song from inside the maze, the very one you made
You shook at the ivory mantle
As a poet, I knew to be gentle
When you have a child, so begins the braiding
And in that braid you stay

Look at all the peaches
I want to celebrate
I can appear inside of nowhere
Look at all the peaches

It's already dead
I know you have the dove
I'm not getting wet
Looks like a date is set
Show the ferret to the egg
I'm not getting led along

The wave of love is a transient hunt
Water's the shell and we are the nut
But I saw a match struck outside the barrel

(The barrel)
It's already dead
I know you have the dove
I'm not getting wet

Looks like a date is set
Show the ferret to the egg
I'm not getting led along

I'm in love with her.
"Show the ferret to the egg". If I'd ever done that to my ferrets, they would have been clueless what to do with it.
This has grown on me over time, and I like it. I do keep hearing "looks like a baby's head" though, and can't shake that mondegreen.

This song is a perfect example of how one wrong decision can tear down an otherwise great composition. The guitar, the melody, the lead singer's voice, all blend together to produce an easy listen.

Why then get those children/other singers doing higher octaves in an almost comical way for the last choruses? It completely ruins the whole thing...

I love that bit!  Listen to the lyrics, this is an absolute auditory collage.  That little accent works well in my humblest of opinions.
Sounds very "Big Thief"-y to me, which is absolutely a good thing!

Is this an oboe playing there? *
In any case a nice song - in my opinion.

*Hell, no! An oboe sounds much higher, the comments to the YouTube video (which is great) taught me that it's a bass clarinet.
She sounds just like ... nobody else. Impressive feat these days!

Well. This NZer only heard of her today. I must have been busy.
Lyrics are a word salad, but rest of it is whimsical (or some other adjective).

Very refreshing and original
great voice. Yay.
I'm not seeing any peaches...
She looks like the star of a school marm psychological horror flick.  She sounds very sweet.  I like the hooks and melody interplay.
this song gets stuck in my head in a good way

Thanks.  She is awkwardly interesting.....which is what I look(ed) for in bands/singers.   I used to love searching for bands in the 80's that didn't fit in any genre.

Others may hear this differently. But I feel this song is bizarre, Germanic, and slightly threatening. I also really enjoy it! This would probably tell a more insightful person something about themselves. I’m just grateful to Radio Paradise?!?

Someone left the cake out in the rain again
Timmus stfu… this is a beautiful artfully done lyrical wonder. magical tune
Have seen her live, she has a great voice. This is a great track and I see why it is played before or after a Bob Dylan tune. Nice one Bill.
That bridge after the second chorus had promise... wish they would have taken it into a full blown jam instead of switching back to the ponderous lyrics.

Got woke up by the neighbor at 1:30 this morning.  Couldn't get back to sleep.  This song and the video of her kooky dancing were stuck in my head.  11 hours later, struggling at the keyboard.

I find her super compelling, and weird, especially live. Her Tiny Desk is fascinating to me!
I like the sound of this, but the lyrics are ... well, what?  Show the ferret to the egg?
unique sound, song - - this is why you love RP!

WHAT
Thought this was Dido for a second or so....its nice...
ok up 2 points and she reminds me a bit of Nico…
love the vid for this so bumping to a 9 for me after having it as a major earworm for a week!
Luv this!!!
This has become an IMMEDIATE turn RP off song. It's just so unbearable.
I feel like this has played more than 3 times this week.. It's good, but please reduce the frequency.  The talking over the chorus is a little strange.
thanks Bill, love this song. She has an amazing voice, and appreciate the follow on from Bob Dylan
I want to make a comment about scraping something but I'll forebear.  Suffice to say I gave it 1 and a PSD.

You should watch the fun video to this song.  Someone on youtube commented "When Aldous Harding dances like that she's 'enchanting' and 'ethereal', when I dance like that I'm 'perplexing' and 'scaring the customers'.

I think just wearing those boots and hat would be "scaring the customers."  So would the outfit at the end.  Depending on where you worked of course.

I still like the song

Very curious to discover the meaning of these lyrics.   I think it is a safe assumption that the artist had one in mind.

Saw a play at the Vancouver Fringe. The two actors flung 52 cards on the stage. each card represented a line in the play. So, each actor was reading a part of the conversation. There was no timeline... random!

After 20 cards the audience started to get the gist of the plot. It was quite funny and unique.
William. Can you make a button that says "always give this artist a <#> rating when any song of <name> is added to the playlist"?
Just watched the video...I really like the music, but she creeps me out a bit to be honest!
Awesome song! Thanks RP!

Hey, I'm glad someone else is paying attention. Lots of new tunes or ones that haven't been played for a while over the last few days. Bill and Rebecca must be back from vacation or something.

Yep, appreciated the gift of RP. Fresh wrapping is great!
Her lyrics are as bad as Neko Case's, but her voice and music sucks.  A reluctant 1 for trying.
Here's a beautiful live version (2020). That's some pretty sweet finger-pickin'!

If I don't watch her videos or read her lyrics, she's one of my favorites. Thanks RP for introducing me to her.
Yay! Aldous has found her way onto RP.
Love it...
This is an earworm (a pleasant one)
Hears a song.

"I must be mis-hearing the lyrics."

Checks lyrics.

Wonders if Tom Cochrane really was singing about a bone inside a ham after all.

The video for this particular song is quite a journey.
I thought it was Cate Le Bon

Definitely some of the most obscure lyrics I've come across in a while.
Enjoyed this on first go round. Interesting. Thanks Bill
I don't know what it is about this song, but it drills holes in me (in a very good way!). Especially when the woman's speaking part is layered on. Must be lizard brain stuff. Definite 10.

Well, that's certainly some interesting song writing...
I didnt expect to like this song so much at the beginning -- but I did !

The past few days have been a cornacopia of new stuff.
This song is lovely. Opening with an 8.

Wow, another new for me tune. Like this woman's voice, mucho. Unusual intonations and phrasing with very pretty tones.
Opens with a 7 from Napoli on the Gulf.
