You know my darling, I can't stand to sleep alone
No sweetheart in the dark to call my own
You're my own, you're my own, I can sing it, I can groan
But the darkness is a stranger and I'm lonely, lonely, lonely, low
Last night's parties and last nights horrorshow
Smiling and whirling and kissing all I know
Give my soul, give my soul, sing it free across the sea
A lonely spell to conjure you, but conjure hell is all I do
Lonely, lonely, lonely, 'cause my mama told me
The dream of love is a two hearted dream
Lonely, lonely, lonely, 'cause my mama told me
The dream of love is a two hearted dream
They say for every high high there must be a low, low, low, low, low
From every sun ascending a lonesome moon will grow, grow, grow, grow
Drive my heart, drive my heart, into the fire of a burning heart's desire
A lonely spell so you be seen, do you hear me coming in my blue dream?
Lonely, lonely, lonely, 'cause my mama told me
The dream of love is a two hearted dream
Lonely, lonely, lonely,
The dream of love is a two hearted dream
No sweetheart in the dark to call my own
You're my own, you're my own, I can sing it, I can groan
But the darkness is a stranger and I'm lonely, lonely, lonely, low

brings back happy memories - thanks for playing
I think she uses her voice well, and her unique genius gives me some intriguing glimpses into her surreal imagination. This and Fur and Gold are among of my favorite records to play when I want something edgy and different and yet hauntingly gorgeous. Her "What's a Girl to Do?" is WOW. The video still freaks me out!

I'm always tempted to rate a song like this because of how awful it sounds, but I'm listening at work on crummy speakers so I shouldn't, really, until I have listened to it properly on a decent sound system. Unfortunately, I don't think I can bring myself to listen to it ever again.

Reminds me of early English folk rock, Fairport Convention and the like. I give it a seven.
Ever so lonely...
Good Tune! I like it!

Works for me; I don't get the hate

It would be so great if you wouldn't shit talk in german on every song you don't like.
Just click the PSD button or switch the radio station already if you're so unhappy here.

I used to really tolerate Renaissance, because I knew that Annie Haslam had this really great voice even though the song structures were annoying. Doomed to repeat the past, I guess.

i love BFL, glad RP started playing her music. "Sleep Alone" isn't one of my favorites from her though
Would be good to know how much material she has presented to her for consideration for "use". Am hoping for more diverse pieces from BFL with her voice carrying the load.
uhm.... really don't like this one (not even the album cover - terrible!). The repetition of the refrain reminds me of the more famous "Jolene, Jolene, Jolene....", which, by the way, I thought until now it said "Jolie, Jolie, Jolie... please don't take my man..." as in the French Jolie for Pretty. At least this ugly song by BFL made me realise how I misunderstood the lyrics of Jolene...

And the cats are still grinning, after having torn the house up all day. They're tucked in, a few are snoring, and the rest are taking grooming-breaks before they hit the sack. Bumping this to a 9, because the cats voted that way.

Or add anything that comes from Celine Dion's mouth for that matter. My cats don't go for CD. Neither do I...it doesn't get played unless there's unsupervised lame radio playing somehow...this doesn't happen often fortunately.

I agree with what the other poster said. RP plays the best songs off the album. Not sure if RP plays Daniel though-I think Daniel's my favorite. There are a few that are absolutely stellar from the album that I have to BLAST and rock out to. However, I can't say the rest of the album is just as good. I hope they come out with new good music soon. I'd say it's worth getting the album though.

Of late, I am fascinated by her music.
Sounds like half Lorena McKinnet and half Annie Lennox
A blogger describes her voice this way; "Natasha Khans voice has the soul of Joni Mitchell, the purity of Goldfrapp “Seventh Tree,” and a hint of Karin (The Knife) Andersson’s darkness." - https://plastic-milk.com/tag/bat-for-lashes/

Bill really hyped this one when he introduced it for the first time (or maybe the first few times). He said it was the most exciting new music he had heard this year or some other such high praise. Then he played the song and I thought... "this?"
Now I have had some time with and I quite like it. Perhaps not on my best of the year list, but it makes me think we are in good hands indeed with Bill and Rebecca picking our music for us. Thats right; Bill knew I would like it before I did!

I've seen Natasha Khan in concert, this song sounded the same as in this recording. It was chilling. I think she is very influenced by Sandy Denny, in the second set of her show she did a couple of songs that were just her and an autoharp... it kind of reminded me of Pentangle.

Nice transition from Pink Floyd's "Hey You" to this one.
Far too minor-key sounding for me... (that's the best way I can describe it - it's the same reason I can't stand a lot of Neko Case's stuff). Like some of the other BFL stuff, but not this...

very good - first time I heard this artist. Not sure if she's "the next Kate Bush" tho. What's the significance of the name I wonder ? she's part pakistani so is it Bat as in Cricket ? Bat as in nocturnal animal? Lashes can have several meanings too, is anyone being whipped around here? (must confess I'm often drawn to those dark overtones, and a little mystery must make a singer more intriguing)

In the same way that the Earth looks like a soccer ball, but with copious amounts of magnitude...
in other words, purely superficially, and to let that comparison be the judgement for the song seems very silly to me.
Great response ziggytrix. I wasn't editorializing based on the comparison between the two songs, it was just an observation based on what the Bat For Lashes song reminded me of. This song has dramatic component that struck me as pretentious. That being said, I've heard 3 other Bat songs on RP that reminded me only of Bat and showed a songwriter and singer with range.

Saw her on The Tonight Show w/Conan OBrien earlier this week. VERY nice. I love how she performs barefoot and dances around the stage. How cool is that? I'm not sure I want her to become very commercially successful...it will change her, eh?

She is straining at the top of her range. Nice poetry, however.
