I just listened to this as well. Truly haunting is her voice, and the story so tragic.

Phantogram does the scratchy record trick on When I'm Small -- I find it annoying on that track. U2 does it on "...I've been down hearted baby..." sample.

Sounds like Massive Attack's Pray for Rain with DJ Shadow remixing
Tor is a funny name for german like me. Because the german word"Tor" in german means "goal" in football/soccer!
I love this - and thought it was Neko at first…
Ordered this CD directly from Tor - and was amazed to see he'd hand-packed it and filled out the mailer. Blown away he's that personal with his fans.....
Good Tune! Very interesting. The vocals remind me of a young Grace slick. I never heard of them before. Thank You RP!
This is the end, my friend -- The End... and now, we will explore Middle-Eastern fiddle frills, Balinese gamelan sounds, and 17th Century English War-Widows' Grief Verses... Where else? I love it!  I love RP!
Holy crap, great segue from Karma Police.

Aww, that's a shame. Tor was, by all accounts, a really sweet guy.

If you enjoyed this, get both albums by TOR. Good stuff.

a piece of masterpiece theater (nothing to do with television or the bbc)
If it really IS sampled from June Tabor singing a 17th Century ballad of love and grief, then all the more power to it; trip us all on, mon!

Channels Grace Slick, to my ears. Weird, worldly, and rather infectious. Like on first listen.

Have been reading others' comments below - regarding no rhythm, no melody, etc. Personally, I love this, and find much to admire.
I respect those of you who temper your negative comments, but those of you who send out judgmental comments without allowing that other people may have valid reasons for liking the music are (in my opinion) showing themselves to be childish and prejudiced.

It's probably an error to ever respond to any of your endlessly negatives, but your own comments are rather consistently boring and repetitive. The mark of an immature mind is to label everything that he/she does not like as boring. You can't be doing this for attention, since these are anonymous comments, so what, really, is the point? I and many others find this interesting, which may confound you. Your loss.
Very chill and hypnotic
Sometimes it's nice to have something drone-like (see Ravi Shankar) to relax to ..... we can't listen to Foo Fighters all the time, right? :^ /

Very nice segue from beth orton, bill.
Is that an electronic echo chamber or is she repeating the last syllables of words to make it sound like one? Cool song, either way.
How on earth did I rate this 1 on first listen?  Bumped straight up to 7 - soothing, enveloping, rich sounds

I'd love to splice this with How Soon is Now?

Can anyone do it, I don't have the necessary skills?

Eh? No Rhythm? I simply don't understand. Maybe it is because there are too many rhythms in it that you can't hear them?

For me, this is fantastically danceable, which is the best indication of whether something has rhythm.

This song may not have the sort of melody which could send one away "humming or otherwise duplicating it"; but it undeniably has a rhythm.

rhythm
NOUN
1. A strong, regular repeated pattern of movement or sound
Oddly I feel like I both love and hate this and perhaps even for the same reasons.  Not sure I can rate it on this first listen.

Different. The static crackle is "interesting." Also, the Lyrics link says "instrumental" but there seems to actually be lyrics. Hmmm…

Yep. Addictive and captivating, and very RP. I like the gonging things too, which I think are hammered dulcimers (which is also reminiscent of Dead Can Dance, as another poster wrote). 8 from the weirded-out Nottingham jury.
This whole album is great just as this song is.

This has become a solid favorite. It's so hauntingly beautiful, raw and mysticious (to coin a word from my then 5 yr old daughter). The whole album is attractive.

Interesting comparison!  Dead Can Dance has a new album out — called Anastasis  (Anastasis is the Greek word for resurrection) —
and it has an incredible song on it called "Return of the She-King"...

I like this Tor song a lot...  and yes, now that you mention it, the song does sound good and quirky, kind of like Dead Can Dance...

love it...

This is really strange, Irish-Hindi? Not super-unpleasant, but not a go-to.

Ok, the rating for this deserves a bump up by one. A very creative mix.
