Man, it's a hot one
Like seven inches from the midday sun
Well, I hear you whispering and the words melt everyone
But you stay so cool
My muñequita, my Spanish Harlem Mona Lisa
You're my reason for reason
The step in my groove, yeah

And if you said this life ain't good enough
I would give my world to lift you up
I could change my life to better suit your mood, yeah
'Cause you're so smooth

Well, and it's just like the ocean under the moon
Well, it's the same as the emotion that I get from you
You got the kind of lovin' that can be so smooth, yeah
Give me your heart, make it real
Or else forget about it

Well, I'll tell you one thing
If you would leave, it'd be a crying shame
In every breath and every word
I hear your name calling me out, yeah
Out from the barrio, you hear my rhythm on your radio
You feel the turning of the world so soft and slow
Turning you 'round and 'round

And if you said this life ain't good enough
I would give my world to lift you up
I could change my life to better suit your mood, yeah
'Cause you're so smooth

Well, and it's just like the ocean under the moon
Well, it's the same as the emotion that I get from you
You got the kind of lovin' that can be so smooth, yeah
Give me your heart, make it real
Or else forget about it
Yeah

Well, and it's just like the ocean under the moon
Well, it's the same as the emotion that I get from you
You got the kind of lovin' that can be so smooth, yeah
Give me your heart, make it real
Or else forget about it, yeah
Or else forget about it
Oh, or else forget about it
Oh, let's don't forget about it
Give me your heart, make it real
Oh, let's don't forget about it, yeah
Let's don't forget about it, yeah, oh no
Oh, let's don't forget about it, oh no, no
Oh, let's don't forget about it, yeah, oh no
Oh, let's don't forget about it
Yeah, yeah

Being young and experiencing all the legendary pre-2000 music after the fact, listening to RP sometimes makes it feel as if I listen like it all came out yesterday.

This song as well, thought, "this must be Santana, although it sounds new and hip" and laughed when I saw this came out in 1999.

I agree that this rocks just as well as it must've back then. Great song. Thank you, Bill!

I think it seemed like something of a 're-invention' when this came out.  I think he looked to a younger generation of musicians to collaborate with, to refresh his work, and I think it worked on this album.

I actually like Rob Thomas on this song, my problem is with Santana. The continual background noodling sounds like he walked into the recording session without ever having heard the song before, plugged in, and started injecting his ever-so-tired bag-o-riffs into every tiny gap he could find. Pretty much characteristic of his playing the last 20 years. It's depressing to think that this is the guy who recorded some of the best hard rock material of the early '70's, who played the incredible solo on "Song of the Wind", who recorded with guitar god John McLaughlin, and who used to have artists like Flora Purim on his albums. A complete waste when you sell your soul in search of the almighty dollar.

This guy ^ nailed it...
I don't think I can be friends with anyone who can hear this without dancing involuntarily.

I can't help but love this killer groove... Corazon Espinado, too... This record was s big part of my life's soundtrack during an incredibly rough time of transition for me; painful separations, confusion, global and cross-country relocations, eventual breakup, etc., so I actually couldn't bear listening to it for several years, which also hurt, because it had been so much a part of life right up to then. Now, I can rock right out to it again. The pain is still there, and will never go away, but thankfully, so is the Divine Music! All of Santana's gifts are among my most treasured pleasures.

Welcome back, brother!

and I had the slightly better experience with this album, as a post-breakup disk as I got over the relationship crap.

Long Live RP and all of us!!

just heard this las tnight on the commute home, and I just thought "Bill played this yesterday . . . wait, that was in the truck
Once my stream and the local Radio were playing the same Bowie song within a few bars of one another
7>8....only to help rating!

fuck the "too cool for the room crowd"

overplayed = yeah,
but still a very good song
Hated Matchbox 20 back in the day so I always hated this song.  But all these many years later...man...it's friggin' Santana!!  1 ----> 9
Enjoying the full version of this song.  Radio stations have been playing the truncated version for SO long...
Heavy Santana rotation lately. Supernatural's got way better tracks to play out imo. Oh, well -

That would be a no on retirement.  He is currently on an intermittent national and international tour, and has booked many shows at the House of Blues in Las Vegas well into 2020.

wow ..my nostalgia
Truly ho-hum.  The only good thing that came out of this LP was the huge, long overdue payday for Carlos.  I'll stick with his first 4 or 5 albums, along with his inspired work with John McLaughlin.
20 years and still cracking hot!
You go, Carlos. On balance, not one of your better, best pieces--Song of the Wind, America, Jungle Strut--but a good piece by you is a near great one on the scale of many others.
Back in my early college years, I became friends with a Puerto Rican named Pedro.  One night when we were cruising around looking for trouble, I plopped in my Santana Abraxas tape - thinking surely he would be duly impressed.

"Ugh, do you have some Michael Jackson?  I hate thees salsa sheet!"

face > palm
This is a fabulous collection of songs, surprising many of us who have been Santana fans from the beginning.
BooGie! Love it!

Man, that Moonflower live album is one of my all time favorite live LPs.  Jealous.  The clueless, bashing here on Santana, could never have seen him lean back and let loose on that guitar live.  They are the poorer for it.

Exactly right. The haters are clueless, not very smooth, and they've missed out — they're still missing out — on one of the titans of the axe.
As if the Santana/Enya mashup I posted before wasn't crazy enough, the artist topped it with a Michael Jackson/Barenaked Ladies/Santana mashup (Santana isn't used til near the end, but oh man, it's done right)!
"same as the emotion that I get from Harrison Ford"
Nothing gets me jumping for PSD button faster than this piece of garbage.

Yeah a lot of times the band is just a backup for Carlos riff whaling.  Satriani's albums for another example.  But when they play withing the context of a song it's really great.  Similar feeling with Knofler playing on Dylan's Slow Train Coming album or Landreth with Hiatt.

This has one of the most awkward mondegreens I know, to the degree that I wonder if it was done on purpose.
It's the part: “Well, it's the same as the emotion that I get from you,” and I think it's pretty well-known what many people hear instead.
sweet - we love Santana always
For Henry she is inertial reference frame, and an aim, no sham or shalom.
This album was a great comeback of Carlos Santana. I like it!

You're being too logical and neighborly in this post.  What are you, a trouble-maker or something?
More noodling than a Chinese restaurant - yep, that's Santana. If you're in the mood for noodles (as I am the now) that's just fine, but if you're not it could really get on your tits.

Give it a rest.

Actually that's not all.  This pervasive attitude reminds me of Steve Martin's act when he played the cool hipster dude in the 70's who really dug Barry Manilow "before he went commercial".

The drivel that comes out of Rob Thomas' mouth is the same saccharine dreck that is spewed out on top 40 on a constant basis. Santana is good doing Santana. The Beatles are obviously in the immortal league, with harmonies, hooks, and an obvious skill at song writing.... something that is NOT found on the FM dial nowadays, and something I find at RP. Mostly. Please don't compare the Beatles to this song, which even without the crushing overplay would still be a mediocre song at best.
So there is NO harmonies, hooks, and skill at songwriting ANYWHERE on the FM airwaves today?? kind of a broad generalization, no? We have a station in my town that if you relax your ears, sounds a lot like RadioParadise. Not a lot of the same songs, but a lot of otherwise underappreciated artists that don't fit on more formulaic stations. And, no, it's not a college station or a non-comercial station. I really don't like to hear statements like this. RP is the gold standard of quality radio today, but it's not the only game in town. Good music is alive and well and not all that far under the mainstream, despite what the culture elitists so common around here would have you believe.

Please do not mention the Foo Fighters in the same breath as Third Eye Blind and Matchbox 20. Having said that, this is a good song no matter how much it might have been played on commercial FM radio. I've lost a lot of respect for Carlos Santana over the course of the last few albums (pandering for commercial success). Despite that, I have to admit that this is an excellent song.
take it off please!!! this is forced on the public airwaves..not here please! lets do classic santana instead. thanks!
Why.... for God's sake WHY!!!!!!

There was a three month period where if one had not heard this song three times in the last hour, the radio had only been on for 45 minutes. Popularity murdered this song and raped the corpse.
Guess I'm lucky in that I don't normally indulge in popular culture, so I don't know Rob Thomas from that Spears chick everyone goes on about. That said, I think this is a great tune that I don't get tired of. C.
