Nothing beats it

The comments are pretty dang funny!
I loves me some Los Lobos, but Sir Doug's original just can't be beat.
I'll call this one an 'homage' - gives all due respect.

Their version is excellent! I Googled it and found out that their version was the original. I had always thought that somebody else did it prior to them.

The only time I've seen them live was in a little 'dance club' in Tokyo in 1990. My wife and I having liked them for a few years since hearing them in San Diego on radio station 91X "The cutting edge of rock" or something like that, rode the train from Yokosuka where we were stationed in the Navy. It was a great night. They brought the house down. There we sat, at one of those sports bar-type tables twenty feet off to the side, two Americans who had taken a liking to Los Lobos in San Diego, watching a room full of Japanese people go wild over them. Kinda' surreal.
And all I hear is "she's a bottom mover"
Because I used to love her, but it's all over now.

I didn't have this in English class: 'to be about a mover'. She's about 'to move', okay, but this? What's it mean?

Edit: I found a thread concerning this important subject, it's very funny. This are some of the suggested answers:
"Everybody knows 'she's about a mover' means the same thing as Doo Wah Diddy Diddy Dum Diddy Doo!"
"She works part-time at a moving company."
But the funniest is this one:

"I think she was moving her Ramalama Ding Dong to Awopbopalubop, Alopbamboom.

(I think Awopbopalubop is on the north side of Alopbamboom, but I'm not sure, I've never been there.) "

THAT IS UTTERLY HILARIOUS.  And furthermore, what cover does Los Lobos not do well??  Rhetorical question.
In this context, I've always thought the phrase "about a..." means essentially the same as "one heck of a..."
Akin to "Ain't that about a bitch"
Dedicated to lady drivers of coroners' vans: 'She's a body mover'.

It means "she's a body mover" was deemed too scandalous to sing in a Texmex pop song in '65. :)

Love this song since SDQ Always wondered though....does that mean she's not quite there yet as a mover, or maybe she's all about her boyfriend who works for Atlas Van Lines or maybe she's applied at Atlas and hasn't been accepted yet?

that's funny

Never heard LL's version of this...it's good!

I'm guessing that's Cesar on vocals, right?

great cover, kinks rule{#Crown}{#Dance}

Um, the Kinks may have covered this--tho' I don't recall ever having heard it--but the original is by The Sir Douglas Quintet. Los Lobos discreetly covers live a lot of Latino originals that are not immediately recognized as such: Richie Valens's "Come On Let's Go," The Premiers' "Farmer John," and of course this one. Like everything else they do, it's done quietly, letting the music speak for itself.

yes another uninspired Los Lobos cover

This band never ceases to amaze me, their repitoire is endless ...
I'm giving this an 8.... which means that the original gets something well in excess of 15!!

Actually it's Doug Sahm's song...back when it was Sir Douglas Quintet and Augie was a member.

Saw SDQ at a dance—remember those?—in Marin Co. probably 1967. They wore Kinks-style Edwardian suits and Seinfeld-style frilly shirts. They got their hit—this one—out of the way and then absolutely got down with an unholy mix of Tex-Mex, R&B, and gutbucket rock'n'roll. I don't know what we were expecting, probably more pseudo British invasion stuff, but we were blown away.

Yet another song I'd never heard before - so I like the Los Lobos rendition, but I'm pretty sure there are purists who prefer the original, which, as mentioned before, I've never heard. I love Los Lobos now - it took a little time, but they've definitely proven they aren't a one-trick pony.  I'm in the mood for them, and I hope to get a lot of their music on MP3 so I can load it onto my player, since it looks like I'll be working six days a week until the end of the season. Upbeat music will be a mainstay....

Chicken and egg sydrome,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,?? Precise below from AMG Biography

Starting in the '50s, Meyers began to join popular San Antonio bands, eventually finding a musical partner in singer/guitarist Doug Sahm. The two eventually started the Sir Douglas Quintet, started by their producer as a British Invasion rip-off.
