There was a woman in Georgia, didn't feel just right
She had the fever all day and chills at night
Now things got worse, yes a serious bind
At times like this it takes a man with a style I cannot often find
A doctor of the heart and a doctor of mind.
If you like country with a boogie beat, he's the man to meet
If you like the sound of shufflin' feet, he can't be beat
If you wanna feel real nice, just ask the rock and roll doctor's advice.
It's just a country town but patients come
From Mobile to Moline from miles around
Nagodoches to New Orleans
In beat-up old cars or in limousines
To meet the doctor of soul, he's got his very own thing.
Two degrees in be-bop, a PHD in swing
He's the master of rhythm, he's a rock and roll king, yeah.
If you like country with a boogie beat, he's the man to meet (he's the man to meet)

If you... if you wanna... if you wanna feel real nice, just ask the rock and roll doctor's advice.

the third song they played the first time I saw them live. The audience was real quiet for the first two songs, so the band was happy to hear the crowd whoop it up after this one. I had never seen anything like the screaming end of their set and I almost dropped out of school to follow them after the fourth time I saw them, but Lowell was dead about 3 months later.
Saw them around 1976 with the Mashall Tucker Band at the Santa Barbara Bowl. Never heard of Little Feat and was blown away The two bands jammed for hour together. Good times had by all!
A short Story: I've loved Little Feat ever since I discovered them in college (long Ago).
A friend recently bought a turntable since he didn't grow up in that era (younger than me obviously), I told him, "If you buy one album, buy Feats Don't Fail Me Now." I remembered a rock critic long ago saying that's what an vinyl album is supposed to sound like.
So my friend gets his rig all set up and uses this as his test of all things stereo. The next time I hear from him, "My God, what an awesome album. I put it on not knowing what to expect, my 3 kids started dancing all over the house." His kids are 5, 6 and 8.
He thanked me profusely.

Saw Little Feat a bunch of time with Lowell George and only twice with Craig Fuller. I loved Pure Prairie League and saw them a few times. But I just couldn't get into Fuller in Little Feat. George went to Join Zappa in the big hereafter way too early.
Great tune. Reminds me of the old BBC 70's music show "Old Grey Whistle Test". Great show. probably had the New York Dolls on after the Little Feat boys.

Nice one. I usually put 'university of life. . . still attending'.
Of course someone will notice, you will have made someone smile in a grey office cube somewhere and make them realise they have wasted their life and have them stand up and shout "I'm not going to take this any more!" and walk out to a new existence.
Just this morning I had to fill out a census form and under education I put "two degrees in be-bop, a PhD in swing."
Wonder if anyone will notice?

Both The Band and Little Feat were ahead of their time because they truly didn't give a damn what anybody thought, they made music for themselves and let the chips fall where they may!

Gotta agree. I saw them at the Armadillo World Headquarters in '74. Definitely the best live performance I had been to up to that time, even with the lousy acoustics of the AWH, and maybe the best since.
Hey Bill - You're my Rock n Roll Dr. :)
I think that T and M "Pressure Drop" inspires Bill to do great things. He always seems to put it back to back with another 10

Under rated?By who?
I was just listening to this yesterday and was thinking this is the definitive Lowell George song. Perfect cartoon conciousness, cracked mosaic composition and superb slide work. Not to mention his soulful singing. He's the man to meet.
see, just as my mood was starting to slip a bit, Little Feat came in and saved the day! Yes! need more Little Feat!!!
I was lucky enough to see them with Lowell at the Pinkpop festival in Holland in, what, 1976?
Some things stay with you for the rest of your life.
I LOVE Little Feat
"times like this it takes a man of such style, like you'll not often find."
You can say that again! Cheers to the memory of the Rock and Roll Dr.

Turn it UP!
I'd love to know what George and Marilyn are talking about...
AHHHH!!!
Takes me back - always sounds good. Gotta dig out that vinyl.
EXCELLENT!!!
Get the live version from 1974 (internet archives).
It is better and the band approves the download!
if you wanna feel real nice...
this is the stuff

The second best slide guitarist who ever lived.
Oooooh Slabby, you know that comment is gonna get you a slap across your silly face from Sharkey! I will assume that you've reserved the #1 slot for Duane. I will say that before I was introduced to Lowell, Duane was Godhead in Sharkey's book. That being said, their styles were so different that I don't believe they can be compared other than they both used very unusual slides... Duane, a Coriciden D bottle and Lowell, a Sears Craftsman 11/16 socket wrench. To me they stand shoulder to shoulder as the two best slide guitarists that will ever grace the rock/blues genre. Bonnie and Warren Haynes run a close second.
Missed seeing Lowell George by months. Have seen LF without him and gotta say he is THE glue to this sound. there will never be another him - he was so right on! BTW he produced shakedown street with the Grateful Dead. Bonnie Raitt said i miss Lowell George more than i miss being 6. we still miss his GENIUS.
close to being the first. i hope you are choosing duane allman as the first and not clapton. these 2 cats had they lived long enough would have way outdone clapton. not to put down clapton as he is an amazing guitarist but soooooo hyped. oldslabsides wrote:

I always think this is Ry Cooder. (Which is a good thing BTW) Why is that?
The one time I got to see the band with Lowell, and he couldn't sing due to a throat problem. They still rocked, though! My favorite Feats CD.
Tasty.
Happy, Happy, Happy. Chair dancing in my "cube". One of my all time favourite bands! It never gets old!
Two degrees in be-bop, a PhD in swing

Little Feat - a much under rated band. I saw them in London in 92 (I think). They were superb. Great to hear this ole tune.
Growwwwwwwwwwwlyyyyyyyyyy!
What a phenomenal guitarist. What a phenomenal band. Excellent tune.
Warren Haynes, Derrick Trucks, and Johnny Winter, Sonny Landreth, gotta love slide guitar when done right. Never heard this song, but certainly digging it.

I could agree with that. And you probably have Duane Allman as #1 as he should, right?
