Well, I was born in a small town
And I live in a small town
Prob'ly die in a small town
Oh, those small communities
All my friends are so small town
My parents live in the same small town
My job is so small town
Provides little opportunity
Educated in a small town
Taught the fear of Jesus in a small town
Used to daydream in that small town
Another boring romantic, that's me
But I've seen it all in a small town
Had myself a ball in a small town
Married an L.A. doll and brought her to this small town
Now she's small town just like me
No, I cannot forget from where it is that I come from
I cannot forget the people who love me
Yeah, I can be myself here in this small town
And people let me be just what I want to be
Got nothing against a big town
Still hayseed enough to say, "Look who's in the big town"
But my bed is in a small town
Oh, and that's good enough for me
Well, I was born in a small town
And I can breathe in a small town
Gonna die in this small town
And that's prob'ly where they'll bury me
And I live in a small town
Prob'ly die in a small town
Oh, those small communities
All my friends are so small town
My parents live in the same small town

Somebody obviously likes greasy little johny cougar as there are over 3 dozen uploads listed under john mellencamp. To each his own, but I've never considered him anything but a horrrid little man singing horrid little songs.

Hey, thanks. I was wondering what that word meant. ;)
What word? I don't remember hearing this song before. Then again, maybe I heard it often enuf to get the brains baked outta me. Humph.

Definitely commercial radio material, but, being eclectic means playing a bit of EVERYTHING, even the pre-chewed stuff.

Nothing wrong with Mellemcamp himself, it's just this song - which isn't all that bad the first 200,000 you hear it..

Somebody please enlighten me: What is it that's so terribly wrong with Mellencamp?

An anthem from an era. Powerful at the time...nostalgic now but still inspires an air guitar rift or two.
I sort of have the opposite reaction . . . did not care for it that much then, but kind of appreciate it more now. Same is true of Mellencamp, for me. Would really like to hear the song with the line "little pink houses for you and me." That says it all about suburbs, I think, and conformists in general. It all might seem obvious, what he sings, but somebody needs to say these things.
Classic Rock. Seems out of place here...I do like JM.

Really good song, but living in his home town, you REALLY get sick of hearing it. They play it ALL the time.
Somebody please quick upload Tom Lehrer's "My Home Town" as an antidote to this overplayed bundle of clichés.... :verysorry:
This song reminds me of growing up in -- where else? -- a small Texas town. I love it.
He does look pretty small in that "vampire coat"!
