Hell, at home I came to you with best intentions
You laid down and give to me just what I'm seeking
say, you drive me to distraction

so..
How Irma, you came to me like wine comes to the mouth
Grown tired of water all the time
You quench my heart and Oh, you quench my mind
and.. celebrate

Celebrate we will
'Cause life is short but sweet for certain
Hey, we climb on two by two
To be sure these days continue
Things we cannot change

Oh Hell, Irma, do you believe that we might last a thousand years
Or more if not for this,
Our flesh and blood
It ties you and me right up
celebrate and see how...

Celebrate we will
'Cause life is short but sweet for certain
Hey, we climb on two by two
To be sure these days continue
Things we can
get up and celebrate...
Celebrate we will
Come on'Cause life is short but sweet for certain
Aw, we climb on two by two
To be sure aw, these days continue
Things we cannot change
change.. change.. oh oh oh..

Oh that, Irma, I came to you with best intentions
You laid down and give to me just what I'm seeking
Aw lover you... ride me, ride me ,ride me
so..

Celebrate we will
'Cause life is short but sweet for certain
OH, we climb on two by two
oh To be sure these days continue
Things we can...
Aw well away ah..
and these celebrations
Oh.. climb on two by two
good life is short
But sweet for certain
oh..Oh We grab on To be sure...
Things we cannot change
change...change..change... oh oh..

celebrate we will..
cause life is short...
but sweet for certain
Oh, we climb on two by two
to be sure that these days continue....

Hmmm... there's certainly free speech here, but RP is more like a benevolent dictatorship than a democracy.
As it should be!
I did some volunteer work in a cloud  forest called Monteverde, Costa Rica in the year 2000. My job was to observe a Quetzal (national bird of Costa Rica)  nest and protect it from monkeys all day for two weeks. The Canadian researcher gave me a Discman with 3 CDs.  Jagged Little Pill, Queen's greatest hits vol II and a Dave Matthews live CD. My first introduction to Dave and got to know and appreciate him very much. Only saw one monkey in 2 weeks. My weapon to shield the Quetzal, a plastic picnic plate attached to a pole
Not necessarily a Dave Matthews fan but this tune is awesome!
I first heard this song (and this version even) when I was in Japan as a student back in 2000, played to me by a good friend. I have since then loved it and I get a big smile and a fuzzy feeling every time it comes on. Love it.

I cant stand this guy. Lordy.  I partially blame over play by commercial radio I subjected myself to years ago on my daily commute.
I never skip on RP.  But this is one few artist I do turn down

Try to please everyone and likely you will please no one, its probably best to please oneself and maybe others will be pleased.

If you can't sing, then don't sing. Please!

Sorry to say, I can’t skip because the feature is not available on iOS web app.  (Using work pad with restricted access.) So..
Thanks to Dave Mattews i found PEARadio!!!! Everytime RP plays something unbearable - like this - I just change station for a few minutes.

Powerful! Thrilling! Outstanding!

I'm really conflicted about how to respond to this comment.. On the one hand, it's just sooo whiiiny. Just get over yourself already. On the other hand... that is superb fat cat art. So net zero, I guess?
Can't stand this guy's schnozzy voice. Maybe the music is good. Maybe the lyrics are good. I don't know. That voice makes me turn the volume off for the duration.

2 plays in the last 30 days = that's enough for the next decade.
Huh, there are a lot of people disliking his voice, where there are much more annoying tunes on rp. This has such a nice music to it though!
I don't understand why some singers choose to add weird voice inflections. I otherwise really like the song, and his band is amazing.

Great song, prefer the studio version over this live version, but solid nonetheless!

OK Zippy, if you don't like him, that is what the "Skip Button" is for! ...it appears that a lot of other listeners on RP, like Dave Matthews.
Great, great music -- even unplugged! We saw them in Berlin in 2016, where Dave opened the concert with words of apology, "for the man, who we elected as President of the United States". What a great political message!
Lovely guitar.

Man, this is gross.
This is an acoustic version done by 2 individuals and clearly not better than the standard version, but the DMB haters always come out of the woodwork. If it's not Led Zep or Pink Floyd it's no good. Frank Zappa said "most people wouldn't recognize good music if it bit them on the ass".
RP could play better much better material from DMB, however. Then RP plays the overplayed Fadeaway, which I also happen to like.

Yuck! Double yuck! How folks can think this is music is beyond me. Worse than Dylan.
Not a fan of DMB, but I do think Crash is a good album. That said, it sounds like Dave is singing through a kazoo on this. Nice guitar work, though.
Deal-breaker band.
My wife and I play a game where we imagine we just met and think about what bands would have been deal-breakers if the other person liked/loved/listened-to them.  DMB = deal-breaker.

Good Lord, I just don't "get" Dave Matthews' music.
I am not a DMB fan as such. But dang, I love this song in all it's forms.
Not sure how, but missed Dave Matthews Band in my musical formative years. The first time I heard of him was when I heard DaVinci's Notebook singing Ants Marching and I checked out the source. Now every time I hear Dave Matthews Band here, I think it's Ants Marching! Similar sounding, to me.

The comments are overly harsh. While this may not be a great example of DMB or the duet of Tim and Dave, but by and large they have made some great music and are second to none when it comes to live performances.
What a shame. Have to listen to DM yet Black Sabbath Paranoid with a rating of 7.9 has not been heard since Oct 2014.

DMB's songs seem to be either really well crafted or meandering half-distracted entries in a private diary. This one definitely falls into the latter category...and then all the down to the floor. Best left in the 90s.

Another pop song that I "knew" but hadn't really paid attention to the lyrics. Irma Thomas? To this son of New Orleans, there's only one Irma Thomas, and I don't think he's referring to her  -- though maybe she is the "Ruler of (His) Heart" . . . .

Dave's whiney voice has not aged well over the years.  Not that he's sounding old, just that his voice is more grating now than it was when his group first made it big.

Love this song and much of DMB's early stuff... the first 3-4 albums have some truly amazing music (and some I can do without)... his concerts and live recordings were fantastic in the early 2000s (probably still are). I don't know his later stuff as well but have heard a few nice tracks. All in all, I don't see how he and the whole band could be considered anything less than a hugely important and influential band. No doubt that they’ll be in the R&R Hall of Fame someday.

I see a lot of the DMB bashing as simply popularity-backlash. There's no way this many people can't hear the beauty in his music. It's a bit trendy to not like DMB.

Also, people should not bash him personally. I live in Seattle, as does Dave, and i know folks whose kids go to school with his kids. From what i hear, he's simply one of the nicest, most sincere and most involved parents at the school (and the folks who say this are not "star-struck": in fact they're not 'music people' and had never really heard his anything by him until long after they met him).

I wouldn't necessarily characterize not liking his music as "bashing", although comments here often (unfortunately) lean that way (pro and con).  I find most of his music repetitive and boring.  This one is not so bad.  I can only speak for myself and I hold little regard for what is "trendy". The "beauty" of the music is in the eye of the beholder.  I get irritated by the comments that insist that we must like/dislike this band, that singer or whatever.  I don't know him and certainly have no reason to bash him personally either.  He might be a great human being, I don't know. I do know that I'm a great human being, but NOBODY wants to hear me sing!!!

I must disagree. Talking Heads are/were worlds more challenging, both musically and thematically. I can tolerate this band, a bit, but must agree with those who find this performance to be meandering and borderline musical. I lived in Charlottesville for a time and was intrigued to learn that DM based his band there, but geographic familiarity can only go so far. In essence, the dude does not sing very well and seems to have a limited conceptual and musical range.

His endless caterwauling indicates he loves the sound of his own voice. The tune is about 10 minutes too long.
Great transition. The acoustic guitar just blends from one song to the next.
