Van can still be seen in and around his hometown of Belfast. He is not very communicative and you would be lucky to get a few words out of him. Still, he was great in his day and we are thankful to the boy from East Belfast for his legacy of music.

The staying power of this song over the decades is amazing.  Covered by so many college bands (e.g. the White Animals) in fraternity houses all over the South, it was nearly an anthem in the 70s and 80s.  Just a fun, raucous song that has so many early elements of rock and roll.
You'd be hard pressed to find more raw, raucous, passionate and energetic 2:36 of rock music.

I would bet money that you never saw the Grateful Dead, Neil Young, Bob Marley, the Stones, Natalie Merchant of the Doors live! If you had, your mind would have been sufficiently blown that you would never have written such nonsense. I saw the Dead about 300 times and the other bands I just mentioned at least once. They all were simply from heaven! But everyone has their own taste. Those bands are indeed forming the core of what kind of music most RP listeners adore! But we also love African, Caribbean, Irish, and many other forms of music including classical! We are an eclectic bunch, but if you don't like those bands, you really ought to check if your heart is beating or your ears are not plugged up! Just teasin'! Hope you don't take offense. Peace

Van Morrison is one of the biggest influences in modern music.  Sure he has a personality bypass but he produced three solo albums after his time with Them that are very highly thought of... Astral Weeks, Moondance and Tupelo Honey.

I think I dislike every possible attempt at this repetitive and mediocre tune. This one features an out of tune bass guitar. Yippee. As I was once in a cover band playing this song...its really a feat of boredom. It's more fun to play live to an adoring crowd than it is to listen here on RP.
