I won't forget
All the times I've waited patiently for you
And you'll do just what you choose to do
And I will be alone again tonight my dear
Yeah, I heard a funny thing
Somebody said to me
You know that I could be in love with almost everyone
I think that people are
The greatest fun
And I will be alone again tonight my dear
Yeah, I heard a funny thing
Somebody said to me
You know that I could be in love with almost everyone

The greatest fun

This and 7 and 7 is.
I was there then, too. I was 15 though. I left as well.
It sure was fun while it lasted.
Meanwhile, I find it so totally fantastic!

Straight remix of 2003 Calexico original. I wonder about giving a high rating to a copycat...

As others have pointed out, you have your cover and originals mixed up. However, I do think that your point is good - a cover should add something or change things a bit; Calexico's version is just a straight copy.
Here's a link to a version by rock legends 'UFO' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
And a version by 'The Damned' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
which are not massively dissimilar to each other... (in my opinion)

Seriously? This IS the ORIGINAL VERSION! It came out in 1967. I was listening to it on WNEW FM 102.7 (NYC) before the members of Calexico were born!!! Dont't get me wrong, I love Calexico, they are a GREAT BAND!
First heard the UFO version "Alone Again" decades ago.....I can't decide which is better. They are both excellent. I'll have to keep listening to both till the dilemma is resolved.
depends if you like the trumpet solo or the guitar solo.

I always thought this was The Moody Blues for years and years until you played it and I checked. Needless to say I bought the album and it's a classic. Thanks.
What?!? Not the Moody Blues? RP
I love both but had forgotten the trumpets were on the original as well, they sound so mariachi I thought Calexico had added them
That horn section is why I went +1 to 9 today...LLRP!!
Recommended buying this album to more than a few friends when it first came out
by tellin' 'em I'd buy it from them if they didn't love it...I didn't have to buy a single
copy...;-)
Trivia: How many other albums have a"The Persecution and Assassination of Jean
Paul Marat as Performed by the Inmates of Charenton Under the Direction of the
Marquis de Sade" reference in the lyrics...?-)
And which movie would that be?
According to Wikipedia:
The song has been featured in several films, most notably the 1996 films Bottle Rocket and Sleepers. It appeared at the close of the 2009 British comedy movie Bunny and the Bull, playing as the lead character finally breaks free of his obsessions. Alone Again Or was also featured in the climactic parade scene ending the last episode of season one of the 2019 Netflix series Russian Doll.
Soooo, are the grooves worn aht yet?

Evidently "someone" has tampered with your memory. Perhaprs ...umm ...chemically? It's either that or you're really a humanoid robot and there is a flaw in your memory circuitry. You choose.
programmer is out on the balcony with MJ, he'll respond later

"Bottle Rocket" was right in Owen Wilson's wheelhouse—doggedly sunny belief in a goofy, insane and unworkable premise. Not the strongest story although you could say that about a lot of Wes Anderson's movies. "Grand Budapest Hotel" was great fun but it pretty much amounted to a few chase scenes and a lot of to-ing and fro-ing. Had no idea that Ralph Fiennes could be so funny especially as I'd last seen him impersonating an autistic Weimaraner in "The Duchess."
have heard this song a million times but never knew the name of the group
How true - a truly ground breaking album :))
That is all.
lol
We managed to see Arthur Lee for his (final) Forever Changes tour in UK, not long before he died. An unbelievable experience, sounded almost note perfect after his many years and hardships, and with a completely new group half his age!
Thanks for the memories ......
Well, maybe without the loudly-mixed mellotron, echo-laden, four-part harmonies, and the gong. The two bands probably shared some similar inspirations, though.
Always thought this was the Moody Blues! I've heard this song multiple times. Imagine my surprise - thanks RP
Same here. Also like Calexico's cover.
As I say every morning, if I wake up, "Dear Jesus, please, please make it 1967 again!"
No need to argue...you're correct!
Not to me it isn't. The Damned's version is pretty awesome and was my first exposure to the song.
I agree with that.
Ooh, I'll have to find that…

Thanks for playing it Bill.
Cool. I see you're also a fan of Firesign Theater.

I've created a thread there about LOVE.I also helped out Mike Kerry with the LOVE STORY docu and there's lots of interesting stuff to read about LOVE and the main band on the forum The Doors.
And there is a terrific Arthur Lee DVD for rent via Netflix whereby he performs all of Love's hits with a Swedish orchestra circa 2000. Stories have it that Hendrix modeled his flamboyant dress after seeing Lee.
I even broke down and bought it not long ago. Great stuff!
There is also a 2 CD set where the 2nd CD has studio out-takes. I like some of them better than the ones used.

As much as I generally disagree with Dave, I have to agree that this song simply soars—and, yes, is nearly perfect in its execution. Back then of course we had no idea what to think of it—a chorus of horns? A lone mariachi trumpet? Then Quickilver did "Pride of Man," and within a year Tower of Power, The Electric Flag, and Chicago burst upon the scene...and it all fell into place. Arthur Lee was beyond cool.
I think the Moody Blues were still waiting to be reincarnated in 1967.
Actually, The Bloody Mooes had their first LP "Go Now" in '64. They released their "Days of Future Past" LP in '67, same year as this song.

Well, it was an instantaneous reaction comment, and I'd been waiting to praise some "new music" since today's been full of slams against of "old guy" music. Looks like I screwed the pooch on all counts. Typical for me, unfortunately.
