The first words that came could've been more inspired
You must be hungry or tired or frozen
So put up your feet, throw some coal on the fire
And weave us a tale of delight

So we sit in our gun and we wait for our turn
We'll be waiting all of the night
So we sit in our gun and we wait for our turn
We'll be waiting all of our lives

We're all to blame
We hide away
Let's take the sand from this bottomless pit
It's hell to pay
So run away
Destroy on command all who came and then quit

It's been carefully planned by the ones you won't see
Send out the monkeys, they come out of the bushes
To piss in the punch and then smash up the decks
It's your party, we're all obliged

So we sit in our gun and we wait for our turn
I think you hurt him, there's blood on the floor
So we sit in our gun, can I ask what you're on?
If you made it there's hope for us all

We're all to blame
We hide away
Let's take the sand from this bottomless pit
There's hell to pay
So run away
Destroy on command all who came and then quit
You're all the same
So hide away
Let's steal the sand from this bottomless pit

Nice enough - but the noisy ending just sounds put on to me.
In theory, I like this cut, but in practice, I found it kind of annoying as background office music.

Totally agree - 100%. Those 3 albums ROCK.....the others, not so much. Got too commercial after Grey's Anantomy started playing them. However, the live shows are amazing.{#Dancingbanana_2}

I concur. I love the first three albums and the Shopping Trolley EP. After that I've lost a bit of interest in their albums. I still see them live because they are great live..

This song made me pause at work to crank it up.  Interesting spatial placement of sounds.  I like it!

That's a good question.  It's not always the same lead vocalist, though two of them sound a lot alike (there are 3) .  Not only that, they blend many musical styles.

LMAO! That is so accurate! Ack!
...wow - this song suddenly bumped up two points out of nowhere...

Pretty good song. Even the part at the end where Blue Man group takes over.
That's what I'm talkin about...some Ratchet & Clank Music!

Every Gomez tune I hear on RP is groovin'. Is Bill just infallibly picking the best of their work, or should I be buying entire albums rather than singles?

Never mind albums.. see them live! Their shows are equally grooving and guaranteed to make you bounce.

Buy entire albums for sure. CD quality is better and the songs flow one into the next. Liquid Skin doesn't have a dud in the bunch but In Our Gun and others are quality, cohesive albums too. I compiled a Gomez sampler and the songs are all great but it's just not an album.

This is giving me a headache...

Smarm away. I'll admit I'm entertained.
My Mom was raving about Gomez, and gave me a CD the other day to listen to. So far they remind me of a cross between T-rex and Radiohead is that good?

Whoa -- nifty sound. Heavy and driving. I'm pretty sure the rest of the album is not instrumental, though, right?

Looks like a Huey (chopper) to me.
This has been a pretty funky set to say the least--but isn't that why we love RP?

The first Gomez song I've heard that doesn't annoy me; I actually like this one.
why is Gomez either amazing or terrible?
Still my favorite Gomez album. The last two are pretty much a disappointment compared to this (but then you've all heard me bitch about "How We Operate").

Same here. They're not awful or anything, but I haven't heard anything yet that I really want to hear more than once either.

That is quite nuts. Thanks for the advice.

Well, don't stop with Gomez. I am sure that the major markets like Detroit only get spoon-fed by Cap/Cities and other conglomerates like where I am. The smaller markets can actually play cool music. Makes you want to move to the sticks, eh?
Huh. Right now, Detroit has a great station to borrow from Windsor - The River. And being in the sticks? Sucks rotten eggs. Hence my frequent listening here.
Hello, I lowered it from a 4 to a 3 after I heard the non sequitur noises at the end...what was the point of that? I only liked the beginning. Full disclosure: I have yet to hear a Gomez song that was remotely appealing. Sorry. Neil

cool lyrics. and amazing music at the end of the song. huh, I didn't think I liked Gomez.
Beautiful song

probably one of the first songs I ever heard on Radio Pardise. I remember I started writing down artists/songs I enjoyed, until it seemed that nearly every song was enjoyable, and thus have just started printing off the playlists :)

*Love* the double bass at the beginning. Reminds me of the brilliant Danny Thompson (plays with John Martyn, Richard Thompson, Pentangle etc).
one of their best...

Was good till the 'We're all to blame...' part.

Gomex is boring..yes why don't you guys move far away... taking Gomez with you...forever...
You get a prize if you play Miss Misery (or any other Elliot Smith song) after this.

Just saw them live at the 9:30 Club. Totally blown away. Not one bad track on any of their albums. I can't remember ever coming across a band this solid.
Darlington wrote:

Yes, and they're all great vocalists. Saw them live last month, at the perfect venue, and had an absolute blast . Glad to hear they've got a new album coming out ---- so they can come through here on tour again soon!
Gomez is a band that I had heard of, but nothing by (other than their cover of "Getting Better" which was in that Phillips Electronics add). I also picked up this one used and I like it. It's all over the place style wise. Part of this is caused by the fact they have three lead singers. But it's a pretty good CD. I also picked up a copy of their first record which I think was a Mercury Prize winner and don't like it nearly as much. They have a new disc coming out in May, by the way.
I really like this song and the other one Bill plays on here by Gomez (can't remember the name right now), especially the part on this song when they break it down at the end. Cool. So I found the cd used in a cd store and of course jump on it. I have to say, I'm kinda disappointed. It's okay, but the rest of the cd is just "eh". I could take it or leave it and it doesn't measure up to these couple songs Bill features by them. They feel like a somewhat knock-off of Doves, who I love, another British band Bill plays periodically. If you like this you may love the Doves, give them a try.
Ah, that change-up gets my bum movin'! I <3 this song!
One can only conclude that the band should fire the bass player.

To me it's a great song all the way through ---- what a great change-up that riff throws in --> nice and crunchy! And then, just when you think "how long is this going to run?" they pull it back in, drop in a ping!, and lay it back down. They are one of the best going.

Woo hoo! I love that song. Sometimes Gomez songs all sound too much the same to me, but this one is unique, and reminds me that I love them. btw, GO SEE THEM LIVE, they're always really anal about the sound quality, and it's a great experience. Full, rich, yummy.

Since you say that, is there supposed to be a political bent to the song? If so, I'm not getting it.
I love this CD.....thanks RP for turning me on to this group. Here\'s the lyrics in case you are interested. I think i read on the band\'s website that this song was written just after Bush was elected. I actually bought three gomez CDs because of RP. Rock on Bill: may the force be with you.
Another CD I purchased because of Radioparadise! It\'s a great album from start to finish.
Otra vez Gomez...
