Darkness, Darkness, be my pillow
Take my head and let me sleep
In the coolness of your shadow
In the silence of your deep
Darkness, Darkness, hide my yearnin'
For the things I can not see
Keep my mind from constant turnin'
Tto the things I cannot be
Darkness, Darkness, be my blanket
Cover me with this endless night
Take away, oh, this pain of knowing
Fill this emptiness with light, emptiness with light now
Darkness, Darkness, long and lonesome
Is the day that brings me here
I have felt the edge of sadness
I have known the depths of fear
Darkness, Darkness, be my blanket
Cover me with the endless night
Take away, oh, this pain of knowing
Fill this emptiness with light now, emptiness with light now, now
Mmm
Darkness, Darkness, be my blanket

In the, oh, oh, hey

In the summer, baby
Ooh, yeah
Ooh, in the summber, baby

Just listened to the original. Going from 3 to 2.

Robert Plant has a great voice and talent. This song, though, has had the life energy sucked out of it in this version.
I can't believe I'd given it a 'seven' previously. I think 'three' is more appropriate.

I guess nobody used the pillow...
No. Just... No.
Thank you for this cool tune!
I'm having "no quarter" flashbacks. Like the original best.

Agreed. It's much better.
Barfness, barfness.

You\'re all wrong. This is simply awful. Somebody smother Plant with a pillow.
this sounds freakin\' great, must be a different mix, best I\'ve heard from Plant in a long while. thought he\'d totally lost it after hearing Page and Plant\'s latest live stuff of a few years ago. sounds like he\'s still got it here, unless it\'s just studio coverup :)
Man, he still rocks. Still better than 96% of the singers you hear on the radio today.

Yeah your right... in a different kinda way. But I want to hear the original every aspect fits... to produce a wonderful haunting song.
Robert Plant is one of the best vocalist around!
I love this song. Very meditative. Good for this icy day in Texas.

Thanks for helping some of those poor souls not quite up to date. As Pee Wee Herman once said, "I'm hip to that dude."
:p
This is a very cool cover. Nice musicianship.
Iain Matthews does a pretty nice version of this too. Speaking of...does Iain ever get played on here? Something from Pure and Crooked would be outstanding.
You guys are on a roll with this last music block!
Must\'ve heard 7 or 8 great songs in a row. Never heard this one before, I like it a lot! :)

I've always like some of Plant's solo stuff regardless the period, then again I really disliked some other stuff.

Zeppelin kicked some serious ass, but Plant's solo career is now just embarrassing. Even Walking through Clarksdale (sp?) was a serious mistake on Plant's part, and it even had Jimmy Page!! :(

So, with four versions on RP, does this song lead on this station with the number of covers available to listen to? I wonder. Who\'d a thought when I fell in love with this in its original from the Youngbloods that it would prove to be irresistable to future generations of performers? Still, great lyrics explain much.

OUTSTANDING! Very mature collection of songs on this album. Most are covers, but there are 3 or 4 that are penned by him. If you think this is good, wait until you hear him cover \"morning dew\" ....purely incredible.
Surely not my favourite addition of this wonderful song, to which I got introduced by listening to RP.
Plant sounds very much like faking drama, to me, while when he was still singing in Led Zeppelin he was always pretty much to very much convincing when he poured his heart out.
I think that all of the versions I\'ve heard of this song are great, each in a different way (though I would rate the Solas version tops). That proves that this is an enduring song. Thanks RP!
I like Plant, even the later stuff, but for this track I prefer Solas. I think it just suits better. Interested in hearing something else from the CD tho.
I have to say I actually like this, which is strange because I have been so anti-Plant for years. I hated the Honeydrippers album and the weak Plant/Page reunion was depressing. But this sounds like he has finally realized that he isn\'t the type of singer he used to be and now is looking for work that fits his voice a bit better.
On first hearing, I thought this was Eric Clapton doing the Youngbloods. Whew, Robert Plant!? I gotta say it was kind of interesting.

Um... the whole album is covers...
And the song DOES get perky in the second half. Just doing what HE enjoys... not what everybody ELSE wants him to do.
