She floats like a swan
Grace on the water
Lips like sugar
Lips like sugar
Just when you think you've caught her
She glides across the water
She calls for you tonight
To share this moonlight

You'll flow down her river
She'll ask and you'll give her
Lips like sugar
Sugar kisses
Lips like sugar
Sugar kisses

She knows what she knows
I know what she's thinking
Sugar kisses
Sugar kisses
Just when you think she's yours
She's flown to other shores
To laugh at how you break
And melt into this lake

You'll flow down her river
But you'll never give her
Lips like sugar
Sugar kisses
Lips like sugar
Sugar kisses

She'll be my mirror
Reflect what I am
A loser and a winner
The King of Siam
And my Siamese twin
Alone on the river
Mirror kisses
Mirror kisses

Lips like sugar
Sugar kisses
Lips like sugar
Sugar kisses

Lips like sugar
Sugar kisses
Lips like sugar
Sugar kisses

Lips like sugar
Sugar kisses
Lips like sugar
Sugar kisses

I spent my deformative years in Washington D.C. from '76 to '90 and in that time WHFS brought all the 70's-80's Brit pop bands to my ears and of course Echo and the Bunnymen. Those were the days. After 28 years elsewhere I'm back in DC but there ain't no radio station to listen to anymore yet good ol' RadioParadise never fails.

Can say that for just about any town since Reagan destroyed the FCC and Clear Channel/I "heart" Radio took over.....
Such an amazing song! It makes me think of Mary, my roommate who worshipped them daily back in the day
I to lived in DC from 83-90. WHFS FM was my JSM! I was a total Echo, Furs, Cure, New Order, Eurythmics freak. I still listen to all of them now at 66 years old. I saw all of them at least 1 time, with the special dual bill of Echo headlining with the Furs opening. On the lawn at an outdoor shed in the summer. Oh what a time to be alive! About 5 yeas ago I bought a T-shirt that reads "Lips Like Sugar, Sugar Kisses" on it with lip in between the print. One of my favs for sure.

I'm in the DC area as well and miss the ol' HSF.
So there I was - the drum beat at the head of this thinking - Apache by the Shads! Not heard that for awhile! 'WRONG'!!

This is my favorite cut off of this album, but for a different reason.  Circa 1990, I was living in Washington, DC and had an absolutely amazing 2 week fling with a really cute and fun French au pair before she went back to France.  This song was playing as we spent the night on a friend's couch at a beach house out in Dewey Beach.  Will never forget those two weeks, and this song brings it back every time.

Yo Tiger..  Thank you for that share!  Those memories will keep you going forever.
Not their magnum opus, but very much above average!

I was lucky enough to see Chris Isaak at the 9:30 Club circa 1989, right before he hit the big time.  One of the best shows I've ever seen.

Selam, Qayili Erten! (Hello, Good Morning).  That is why we come to RP, to be introduced to new music!   Thanx RP!
Sometimes I’m sorry I missed the music of the 80s, sometimes I’m not. This is the latter.

I was in DC from from 1981 to 1990. WHFS was my life! Weasel was the bomb!  That was the happiest time in my musical life. Saw all the biggies in this genre in DC and Merriweather Post. Echo, Furs, New Order, Euryrthmics, RHCP's and Modern English to name a few. When I knew we were moving to SC in 1990 I went a bought 2 10 packs of TDK 90 minute tapes to record all I could. I always had a tape in the player with the radio on 99.1 with the cassette on record and pause. I brought HFS to Greenville and what a life saver that was. NO music scene at all.  I still have a few of them handy but nothing to play them on. So sad.  I worked in DC at 16th and L but lived in Arlington. Single and .....
Could easily mistake this for a U2 track for most of it.

If you have HD try 103 5 HD3 the Gamut.  It's also  on 98.3 over the air in places.   Not nearly as good as RadioParadise but a good change up every once in a while.  I seriously don't what will happen if radioparadise goes the way of HFS...  extreme depression and anxiety I guess.

I would say the same with pretty much all good music. RP is the only shelter.

So graceful, So beautiful
Smells to want more
Never enough and yet too much
So !@#$ing good.
This song is a sugar sweet kiss on the ear. Overplayed? yea. But pop perfection? imho, yea, it is, and a rare 10.

In the 80's, WTMD's predecessor, WCVT, was a genuine independent college radio station.  They played music that commercial radio (including HFS) wouldn't touch, including fringe UK and European punk bands on their home labels.  But I learned about lots of independent labels, before they were bought up by the conglomerates in the mid-late 80s.

Today, yeah, they're much more "formatted"

That's 'cause he's from New Joisey! (not really, but maybe he stayed down the shore one summer and got infected with the 80's tall hair worm).
Just for you Kid Vinil (RIP), who loves them...

I can sense your jealousy.
This is a very well written song.  So catchy and so caught up in the obsession for a woman.
I like the live version from the Live from Liverpool album.
Nothing like a singalong to Echo and the Bunnymen after a belly full of margaritas!

Oh, yeah! Coming in a set within earshot of The Cars, this song sounds perfect, and sounds perfectly suited to the times was born into!

Wait?  What?  "Lips like chicken!?"  Oh...wait....I see.....guess I should offer up a warning about rock-n-roll.  Listen hard, listen long and loud enough, and you'll have ears that're just a bit ground up.  Heh!  {#Motor}II

But judging from their faces and expressions, no one would ever redub them Echo & The Funnymen.

Such a fun, exuberant song; full of the quirky beats and rhythms of the mid-'80s...brings back exquisite bittersweet memories of it all...

Nice!  In '87 I was living along Boulder Creek with a room-mate named Mary who was way into these guys, (and Split Enz), and when I'd come home and find my Siamese cat Syd out on the balcony with Mary, with this playing, I'd assume Standard Orbit and feel SO GOOD!
I was livin' in LA (I know, but they all start that way, don't they?) dating a 24 year-old MSW from UCSB, having the time of my life. Corrupting the heretofore straight MSW was ALL the fun.

The sound that U2 adopted as theirs.

Exactly.  Posted my memories of this song back in 2004.  Still have the same reaction every time it comes on.

I used to get this band confused with U2.  Big guitars, strong vocals, they sounded pretty much the same back in 1982.  "Gloria" or "The Killing Moon," it could have been the same band on each song.  Time passed, "War" came out.  U2 went on to become pretty big stars.  I'll always will have a soft spot in my heart for the Bunnymen.
I had this as the ringtone on my phone for a couple of years.  Love this song!
You know you're listening to too much RP when you hear the same song in the same day. Actually, earlier today Bill played the 12" dance single.
have new klipsch... now 5 louder....still lovin' it......my favorite "pop music" song

ahhhhhhhhhh........thank you    just turned it up to "1 louder"   klipsch be lovin' it.

I'd never heard this song before.  I think it's terrific.
A U2 clone!!

Go Dawgs. I'm class of '79. The music in Athens around that time was superb. Saw Chuck Mangione(Bellavia) for free at the student center. The b52s were strong there then, REM was floating around, the campus radio station was killer(almost like Radio Paradise).I requested Stairway to Heaven once and they just laughed at me. Would see the guys from Goose Creek Symphony at TK Hardys. Best was going to Atlanta to Alex Cooleys Electric Ballroom to see FLO and Eddie then walking in to the Fox Theater afterwords(for Free)and catching the last set and encore of Fleetwood Mac then trying to get to Civic center to get a Who peek. Didn't make class much that year-Parents seriously irritated. Music GPA> 4.0  Scholastic GPA>not so much. hated that summer term. And yep, love Echo and the B'men, 'specially Lips like sugar.

LOVE!
So 80s!
I can't help but love a song like this if only because it reminds me of younger times in my life.  Never was a big fan of this particular band though.
I must be doing too many things at the same time ... I heard "lips like chicken"  then "lips like liver, sugar kidneys."  I had to look to see what this song was!  Glad I misheard!!!
This song gets on big sugar kiss from me!
