Midnight on the water
I saw the ocean's daughter
Walking on a wave's chicane
Staring as she called my name
And I can't get it out of my head
No, I can't get it out of my head
Now my old world is gone for dead
'Cause I can't get it out of my head
Breakdown on the shoreline
Can't move, it's an ebb tide
Morning don't get here till night
Searching for her silver light
And I can't get it out of my head
No, I can't get it out of my head
Now my old world is gone for dead
'Cause I can't get it out of my head, no, no
Bank job in the city
Robin Hood and William Tell and Ivanhoe and Lancelot, they don't envy me, yeah
Sitting till the sun goes down
In dreams the world keeps going 'round and 'round
And I can't get it out of my head
No, I can't get it out of my head
Now my old world is gone for dead
'Cause I can't get it out of my head, no, no
Oh, I can't get it out of my head
No, I can't get it out of my head

Back in the 70s/80s/90s, amongst the shenanigans that WBCN (Boston) engaged in were the lunchtime song parodies produced by Billy West and Tom Sandman. Someone has collated a few of them and put them up on the YouTubes. All the parody lyrics had something to do with food, and DJ "Captain" Ken Shelton played them everyday at noon. As i recall, they did a different song every day for years. Wish i could find or remember more of the lyrics, but one line of the chorus of this ELO tune went, "And I can't find the meat on my bread…" To this day, it's all i can think of when i hear this song.
I adore ELO and have done since A New Word Record came into my consciousness.
Out Of the Blue has stood the test of time and remains a 'go to' album for me; and a permanent feature on my top 10 albums of all time. If you can drag yourself off RP for an hour or so, put your headphones dive in! A total joy!

Nothing sounded quite like a Friday night in the mid-1970s like an ELO song.

ELO was a big deal in 1970’s. Fun to hear this but cut off at that repetitive refrain, heard too many times.

This song was my first 'date' with ELO. We've continued a life long relationship.

Loved this band when I was a school kid.
"Turn to Stone" and "Evil Woman" were my favourites.

I miss the days when ELO was considered the newest big thing. Still remember concerts for them being announced on the radio, and they put emphasis on the new laser shows.
Tickets were probably reasonable, too, not $200 like nowadays.

I can't tell you how many years *I* thought the Bee Gees were singing, "Baldheaded woman. Baldheaded woman to me." I thought that was kind of a kinky visual- the Gibb Brothers with all of their hair, especially Barry, with baldheaded women.
When I found out, like I said years later, that they're actually singing, "More than a woman...," well, I lost interest in the song.

I agree with you on the drummer comment, but in a way he foreshadows the infamous drum routine of Phil Collins’ In the Air Tonight. Give him credit for that at least.

First concert ever in 1977. Lasers + Jeff Lynne's Foster Grants = Epic!
Bill, the mix this morning (Australian time) is amazing, and perfectly suited for this crazy situation. Thank you.

Sounds like it should be a Moody Blues song, but this is one of my ELO faves. Lynne's voice is wonderful. The song brings back some nice summer memories of lying in the sun on my parent's boat listening to one of those old fashioned AM portable radios, placed near my ear...

Thanks RP.
2019 tour was amazing. Jeff gets a bit of help with the vocals ( quite a bit at times), the sound, lights and song selection all outstanding. Plus George Harrison's kid Dhani was a great opener.
Plodding.

The transition from Imagine to this is thoughtful and smile inducing.

Seems like ELO is having a bit of a renaissance. Not sure how good that is, I still have the droning of their hits from back in the 1970s?
... sorry, what?
good segue from 'Imagine'
illustrates beautifully what a blatant Beatles/Lennon pastiche ELO were
but I can
I wish, Jeff Lynne would play entire albums on his actual concerts instead of this prosecco-oldie-show... And I wish, he would compose inspired masterpieces, like he did so long ago...

my roommate says play more ELO.
Brother Iz to John Lennon to Jeff Lynne in this block. I'm loving it.

This sounds like a really low-res rip. Is my memory of the audio quality of the original really that rose-colored?
Yet another reason to like ELO ... it seems to have finally rid us of Stingray.

Bought this in college. I was taking a music appreciation class, and I wanted to do an extra credit paper based on this, rock group uses orchestration, bridging rock and classical? One of the profs said, "So what?" That was the great question I would have to answer many times later in life. I couldn't answer that as a freshman.
Lesson learned.
Got to dig this out again.

Great segue from Steven Wilson - Perfect Life! Saw the "Orchestra" in concert last summer. They were so amazingly good. No Jeff Lynn but they were all such accomplished musicians they didn't need him. I recommend them to any ELO fan.

And of course Dorothy as the voyager (a la Jenny Lewis)...
Xavier Rudd's Home followed up by ELO's album cover Eldorado with a picture of Dorothy tapping her heels together and of course saying at that point in Wizard of OZ "There is no place like home." Given Bill 's segue skills I doubt that was a coincidence.
Bill , you're a genius ......you must this a lot.
