I was waiting on a moment
But the moment never came
All the billion other moments
We're just slipping all away
I must have been tripping
Just ego tripping
I was wanting you to love me
But your love it never came
All the other love around me
Was just wasting all away
I must have been tripping
Just ego tripping
I was waiting on a moment
But the moment never came

All the billion other moments
We're just slipping all away

When am I not ego tripping?
i'm not sure what it is, but i like this band more and more as i age.
they're been around a long time, but i never really paid too much attention to them. yet, everytime i hear a flaming lips song, i am drawn to it.

Haven't listened to this album in full yet--- maybe I should change that soon-- but every time I hear a new song from this album I fall in love

thanks for the link - I'd heard about it and laughed reading this. grinned thinking about the ham sandwiches Laurie Anderson mentioned, too

Could never get into these guys - always found myself comparing them to the superior Super Furry Animals - a tad unfair I suppose.
I did like Wayne Coyne's appearance on the Chemical Brothers track - Golden Path though.

Had to look, thought it was a Moby track... heard of Flaming Lips years ago.... didnt "take" back then... now... thanks B&R 💓
Hardest working band in the business.
So happy that RP keeps this song in rotation
7 to 8. What was I thinking?
Bill, I love ALL the photos you display on ALL the songs, not just this one, keep up the great work!!

Very appropriate song now that Trump has won the elections.

I broke my back and neck and a bunch of ribs on a mountain bike ride last year. Totally fine now. In the interim, I discovered the anxiolytic/euphoric wonders of oxycodone, together with the sonic tapestry of Flaming Lips. A wonderful union. My script is terminated though. Still love this song!

I love it when PSD takes me to good places, like this song!

For a moment or two, I thought I heard some weasels or other small furry creatures cuddling or sexing in the background.

From the title, I'd've expected it to be a ballad about Barack Obama, or maybe Donald Trump, giving a speech to Planned Parenthood.
Sounds almost like a retro soft techno song from 1991-1994, like some sort of fusion of Londonbeat, Erasure, and Simply Red. Surprised it's from 2003.
Too-too bad that Mr. Coyne broke up his marriage and doesn't make music like this anymore!!!

One of the few Flaming Lips songs I don't find grating.
I just love this song so much.
Perfect after a long... long day
Just saw FL in Tampa. Light Show - 10++++++, Musical Performance - ehhhhh - 5.5 (maybe) I've got great pictures but not good impressions.

This following the Talking Heads', 'Seen and Not Seen'....couldn't help but notice the beat to TH's 'Listening Wind' here. Clever? I think so!
Like. A lot. Revisit this recording quite often...

The acme of Ho-Hum. This would serve as an audio definition for tedium in any dictionary. Fluffy, repetitive, dreamlike, spaced - it's like a cloud but without the definition or interest. More effective than a bottle of super-strength Dreamy Sleepy Nightie Snoozy Snooze, it could be used as a general anaesthetic for open heart surgery

Yep. This is good!
Thanks. I could use some of Wayne's world view today. Think I'll throw the whole disk on when I get home.
I made a post on this song back in 2007. WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE!
did I hear electronically sampled cats? Maybe my week has been too long already...
Love the tune..it may go to a 9 next listen.

I couldn't explain why I like them either, but I have fond memories of the fifty or so times they played (literally) in my back yard between 83 and 87! Intelligent and weird. They would always be getting gigs in Dallas and Austin, and would play Denton on the way to and from whatever they were doing. Good times.
I haven't seen them live, but my daughter has, and she said that it was a near-religious experience.

Beautiful sounds, beautiful melody, hooky riff that I'll be grooving down the hall to all morning
Smooth.....

My family and I were at their NYE Freak-out in OK city. Awesome performance and a great time. They also performed DSOTM after Midnight. We will be back next year. It is must see TV? uh must hear concert!
Good but so many better songs on this album.
The Self-Admiration with Blow-Up Mix version on the Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell EP is amazing. Check it out!
this album will forever remind me of the time i saw a fox and her baby cubs in the graveyard, while driving through and listening to this song with one of my favorite friends. a very uniquely strange memory...
Such a cool little song about how people tend to focus on one thing that they think is most important to them and then they accidentally miss a thousand nice little things that happen.
As embarassing as it is to admit- I think I am a "glass is half full" person
Unless we are talking Cuervo LOL
Then you are going down...

Yeah, their albums just keep getting stronger. I love that they all have thematic unity; it's sort of a nod to the prog rock era, where long songs and interdependent themes existed to create a strong album. Different than the iTunes way, it's for sure. The good part is the Lips' music carries over well on single format, but benefits from the context (including graphic art) of the rest of the albums.

These guys are so whimsical and bittersweet. I adore them Plus any band that writes a song with this title can't be all bad. Everytime I hear a Flaming Lips song this infectious smile appears on my face and I remember to lighten up a bit

The Lips are definitely a little deeper and weirder and harder to understand than your average Clear Channel band. Always experimenting and taking chances, and therefore failing sometimes.

If one listens intently enough, one can probably hear that all the time - with or without any music. At least that's what Prof. Irwin Corey once told me.
What are you two on about?
